Very sorry for your loss. You kept them happy and healthy for so long. You're a great hobbyist!

Thank you. I know hobbyists who kept theirs for 20-30 years and the longest in captivity I know of had been at a Public Aquarium for 45 years since 1972 and maybe still living.

Heart breaking loss for you Victor, sometimes these things are completely out of our control and it's clear you tried your best for these fish 👍

Their life wasn't easy with us but mostly for my ignorance and not for the lack of trying. Your compassion is much appreciated. Thank you!

A very sad loss, it was hard to see them go even from a viewer's prospective I cant immagine how it must feel after having raised them for so long.

Much appreciated. We've been suffering so many losses over the last 15 years that we had to grow a thicker skin. Otherwise, you're right, it'd be too much anguish and no sense in continuing in the hobby.

I know it was very hard for you to lose your fish they were three beautiful specimens that you took amazing care of and loved more than words could say it sucks whatever bacteria or parasite that's in that water that keeps affecting your fish needs to go wish you could send your water out or the fish out and see what it is so you don't have to lose any more amazing creatures again I am so sorry for your loss I feel like I lost my own fish and again I'm so sorry my friend

Thank you for this heartfelt note, much appreciate your compassion. The RTCs life with us was not perfect by any means (e.g., look at 7:18 min - way too much fish). Yes, we got a great contact for a pathology lab at U of Florida and plan to collaborate with them to ID the pathogen.

Lovely watching them back grew so fast when u first put them in, what happened to the big arapaimas?
@Fish-Story2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I failed to build them a bigger tank in time, so they jumped out. Arapaima is not a kind of fish that would stay in a tank it deems too small for it. It will keep trying to jump out no matter what.

7:18 just wow
@Fish-Story2 жыл бұрын
:) Yeah, this is way too much fish! I am glad I don't do it like this anymore. The water has always been pristine due to insane filter size and water turnover but too much stress because of the too many too big tank mates.

They grow quick first then slow down 10x, then 100x.

@@Fish-Story And Vic I'll never be one to comment about over crowding because I know what your filtration is like. 👍
@Fish-Story2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. It's okay to criticize if polite and constructive. Ammonia and nitrite in water are not the only sources of stress, just a couple out of a far longer list.

All that's left from that Dayton rescue trip that you set up is the two paroons and the biggest red belly pacu. Most was adopted out and some, like this trio, died in our "care".

They’re dying prematurely because they’re being kept in an unnatural habitat. So cruel! What do you expect?
@Fish-Story2 жыл бұрын
I think they are dying due to our lapse of judgment in 2018 that allowed an introduction of a bad pathogen into the system. I don't think their deaths have simply to do with captivity because of many examples of RTCs living 20-30, even 40-50 years in captivity.
