@@sobo5476carefull with Nippard, I did one of "his" exercise it killed my shoulder for 2 weeks (lateral raises but with hands above the shoulders). I also did one of his abs exercise which killed my low back.

I don’t think thats true. IIRC Jeff was showing/talking about the cable kickback. This short sounds like it’s talking about dumbbell kickbacks. completely different excersizes Since one has the force down (gravity) and the other forward (towards the cable machine).

Can do them standing up on cables and it's the exact same. Elbow is in the same position relative to torso/ shoulder, changing hip angle makes no difference.

I've always done the standing "behind the neck" kickbacks Mike references here. You can seriously feel the stretch on those. Especially if you hold your starting position with your arms extended slightly forward at a / angle.

I like to do a set of kickbacks at the very end. After all my other tricep exercises, I’ll do a set or two to absolutely torch my triceps. Since they’re already pretty exhausted and all I have left is the peak contraction range of motion, I’ll do light weight for 10-15 reps.

I personally like doing one set of 5-10 tricep kickbacks with small dumbbells straight after reaching failure on my pushdowns. Gives you such a satisfying burn and a crazy pump.

I've only ever felt it working more when you don't grip on the weight with your hands, instead you hold it instead of squeezing and leaving a bit of room from your hand and the handle, then you use basically more of the side of your hard to push away/up, so you're not using your forearms or anything like that, let me know/get back to this comment of you try what I just said

On cables resistance is there for the entire movement, so already better, but just turning around and doing them over your head is so much better. Pretty sure raising your arms puts your triceps in a pre-stretched position

I have found strictly controlled close grip bench press with angled hand positions allowing the elbows to remain tucked in close to the torso absolutely murders my triceps, deep muscle soreness that often lasts a few days.

For some people, kickbacks work very well for a mind-muscle connection warmup. You have to nail yhe weight accurately to get this, too heavy or too light and you get nothing.

Behind your back standing hits the long head of the triceps better then pushdowns, so it's a better movement for hitting the entire muscle.

He's right that they give you a better contraction. It's just that we don't have any evidence that better contraction = more hypertrophy. We have some evidence that better stretch = more hypertrophy. Nippard does both a movement with better contraction (cable kickbacks) and a movement with better stretch (overhead extension) because he wants to cover his bases _just in case_ it turns out that there are benefits of both that he doesn't want to miss out on. It's mostly a "well, there can't be much _harm_ in doing both" thing. It's really the same reason _I_ do both. Israetel is looking at this differently. "We have evidence that exercises with a stretch are better for hypertrophy. We don't have evidence that maximizing contraction matters. So, if I'm going to do a tricep exercise, may as well do the ones we have evidence to believe give you the most bang for your buck."

Mike they’re not bad because they provide a contraction-bias. Contraction-biased exercises with Tricep training are essential for prehab before you load them in extensions - or even just getting blood to the muscle after. Also, a kickback movement pattern is great because it neuromechanically leverages the Tricep’s Long Head, providing it a stimulus without needing to go overhead, which can help reduce fatigue on the rotator cuffs in a workout. You want a variety of joint angles. No, it’s a bad exercise because the resistance curve is EXTREMELY sharp with a long moment arm behind the body. As you get stronger on it, instability will become more and more of a limiting factor on the shoulders even with support. You want to do kickbacks either the way Jeff Nippard does them at a cable station, or just Long-Head pushdowns with a high degree of shoulder extension.

Tricep kick backs using a cable is one of the most effective exercises for triceps, it hits different based on the position of the shoulder being back and being able to complete the absolute range of motion from that position. Id like to see study results comparing muscle growth between tricep kick bachs avd other tricep movements. I would bet that different parts of the tricep experience more growth through cable kick backs than other movements.
