why would I not think it's a fibrofolliculoma from far?-derm resident

Fibrofolliculoma can have overlapping features. But it usually has more fibrous stroma and less follicular epithelium. Also it’s usually small papule superficial dermal lesion. Fibrofolliculoma discussed in these review videos: kikoxp.com/posts/2767 & kikoxp.com/posts/6435
