Tony Stark does NOT own the whole Stark Industries Company. In the very first MCU Movie that started it all, Jim Cramer is shown giving the advice to sell Stark stock. In another scene Tony literally says he won’t be pushed around because he’s owning the MAJORITY of the shares. As in: not owning 100% of the shares. I‘m surprised you missed that, you know, given all your research skills and science degrees and stuff. Him owning 51% would be pretty plausible.

Honestly with Tony also building all the suits himself he probably made everything from as close to scratch as possible with raw materials or the baseline components needed to make it for cheaper. Meaning he created every single rocket, flare, metal plate, and laser system from the unassembled baseline parts. So all the value comes from Tony's mind putting the suit together and developing the suits and every piece of the suit was designed specifically for the suit. So imagine taking like 40 million dollars worth of material and using your brain to turn it into a suit worth 1.5 billion dollars. Tony essentially said nobody could afford it because nobody could afford him.

It would really not cost him that much. What could be the most expensive part of his suits is the production and the research and development but I doubt R&D would cost him so much as he usually like to run tests and simulations using jarvis(previously) and friday(currently). My best bet is the production of the suits(the Fabricators) development for his AIs. and why would it not cause Stark to spend billions developing and making his suits? Because Stark does not have the US government handle his spending and material procurement. While the US government would pay $90,000 for a bag of bushings Stark could manufacture them using the Fabricator for much cheaper. US government spending cannot really be compared to the what Stark spends on his suits as his production would not be done by a third party and there would be no ridiculous additional fees, overpricing and some of the money actually pocketed by someone. Material procurement might cost him though as he usually deals with arms dealers(like Klaue). It's undisputed that Stark is insanely rich but his spending cannot be compared to the corrupt spending of the US government or any government for that matter.

A singular arc reactor's price would be in the ballpark of 100 billion USD. It has a power generation of 3 GJ/s, which would alone cost about 18 billion USD to make with our uranium nuclear plants. Then you add the fact that it's most likely very efficient to allow such small size. The lack of needed personnel to run it. No large facilities to up keep. No need to run millions of gallons of water to it to cool it and to produce power. That price is created by supply and demand. If everyone could make them and they turned out to be cheaper to make than uranium nuclear plants, then its price would fall drastically. But as long as Tony Stark is the only one able to make them, he could ask about 100 billion USD for each of them. Any more and people would rather just make energy with nuclear.

Tony pretty has a monopoly on his tech considereding he practically invented most if not all of it, we see that in Ironman 1 the mark 2 alone is probably worth 2 billion because he had the heads-up display an had a full working arc reactor in it. This suit had no weapons hence why the government literally outsourced the weapons 😂, due to the destructive capabilities of said suit it’ll probably be around 3-5 billion dollars. If you want to add the mark 3-7 those are probably 10 times the amount of the mark 2 to “realistically” purchase, considering one their that much more possibly destructive and that much more advanced than the mark 2 ever was. I could go on but even Tony doesn’t even use that much money to build these suits because he manufactures and creates everything himself, guy is practically self sufficient and add that to constantly improving the methods. The Ironman suit and arc reactor are priceless 🤷🏾‍♂️, as long has you have some knowledge then you can maybe build a suit out of cheaper materials.
