I appreciate the video :). I plan on getting the Gudetama version and it’s nice to know what to expect.

Glad it was helpful. I'm also a fan of Gudetama! 🥚✨📷

We've just been spoilt by the low light performance / dynamic range of modern digital sensors. In my experience, it takes a film SLR fitted with a bright prime (f/1.4 or so) and ISO 800 (or faster) film to get all-around usability that's comparable to a modern phone (particularly for indoor and nighttime capability). Film cams don't have the ability to raise sensor gain, don't do computational photography and generally do not have optical stabilization. Not seeing the result in real time is the biggest downer. These technical disadvantages make beautiful film photos all the more special.

Yeah, that makes sense regarding film and what's necessary to get anything remotely similar to current digital options. Good to know! I understand the appeal of going through the film photography process, so in that respect I get why people enjoy it. I was thinking of looking at instant cameras at some point but the Fujifilm Instax digital models are more appealing to me even if that group sees them negatively (kinda want one for my video background shelf, lol).

Cute “toy” camera - intended for kids, I suppose. Images w/o flash looked under-exposed. Entire process was clearly no “picnic”😊. Makes a nice prop. Having started w/analog pre-digital tech, I don’t miss film at all. Yeah, once in a while I used to have the “finger in lens” issue😊, but soon got over it. Will you be adopting film more? BTW, there’s a free Kodak “scanner app” for smartphones, “Kodak Mobile Film Scanner”, you might try, Scott. Simple but effective, meant to work w/their box-like set-up, but am sure you can build a workable model - box sets phone camera to film distance, evenly backlit diffuser holds film. Tip: when scanning film yourself, place emulsion side facing lens and focus on grain. Reverse in post.

Thanks for the info. It's possible I digitized the film backwards. Not sure off hand which side is placed in chemicals. I'll look that up once I'm on a computer. I did see the cardboard Kodak scanner thing. They have a few full devices for $150 or $200. Overall, I'd rather not bother with film for the challenge, cost, and time of getting it developed but it was fun to go through the process though I might buy old film cameras as props in the future if I find any cheaply. More likely I'll get into Fujifilm Instax for a video, but the two cameras I'm looking at are $200 (mini Evo and mini 99). Retrospekt has a ton of versions of this fc-11 for any age, but yeah, the Snoopy one is sold in the kids section of department stores where I bought it (Kohl's). I'm a fan of Snoopy especially because he has had collaborations with NASA over the years.

Why did you not get the Barbie or Hello Kitty version? But seriously the results are horrible. Not my thing. Unless you want the old camera film look then it's pointless. And a bit pricy for what it is. I guess the target demographic is people who want the challenge of editing and film. But most people have a smartphone, even the worst phone cameras will do better than this, even the retired Cat S50 I used years ago. But I see there are still some retailers in Norway selling film. But love that I scored a A7IV second hand from a dealer, and later a 24-70 GMII lens too. But if someone wants a cheap and small camera and don't care about 4k video, I would go for a second hand A6000.

I like Snoopy as a character (a bunch of NASA collabs) and it was available locally at a department store. Bought it for a fun background object. Yeah, it's definitely not for people that focus on image quality. Though I feel like having to scan or digitally photograph film adds an extra layer of quality reduction to all film photography. True, the A6000 is a good deal these days. Maybe even a A6300 for a bit more. I used an A6000 as my PC camera where I film most of my videos now. Just recently bought a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8. At the wide it there is distortion so I don't think you'd like it too much but it feels like a good upgrade for my setup over the 16-50mm kit lens.

@@ScottJWaldron I guess someone else has to dress up as Barbie then😜 but seems like a nice prop to have in the background.
