I wanted to spell my son's name this way, but my wife was the one who went to the regystrar and couldn't remember how to spell it. I now have a plain old 'Rory'. I mean, what the fuck do I do with a Rory? It may as well have been 'David' or 'Peter'. How boring is 'RoRy'?! Smh.

alphago wasnt trolling the reason it was so amazing and surprising and eye opening is because it played to gain the highest probability of winning, regardless of how much it would win by.. humans try to get points and increase their lead, alphago played purely to win.. it makes moves that seem wrong because they won't gain points and even sacrifice points as long as it increases the probability of a win. go players now massively study and try to replicate its playstyle.

Not the worst description of natural selection that I've heard from a layman. Kudos. Regarding anticipation, machines react and humans (I suspect) can respond... we win by virtue of the diversity of parallel responses.

Oh dear, Pyrion on AI *rolls eyes*. The whole point of some ML tasks is teaching a computer how to deal with unforseen circumstances without putting us or that system in harm's way. For instance predictive nuclear safety systems, we will never (intentionally) expose them to a real reactor going china syndrome, but the ML can run all the possible senarios and learn which ones are likey to have a sub optimal, melty, outcome. Exactly the "listening to grown men of talking out of thier arses" we love and come here for time and again, keep it up.

On the point of AI replacing a racing driver there was meant to be a series called Roborace where teams would compete to try and build the best AI programming for their respective car but it kinda fell into obscurity after a year and I don't think they've even done a race yet. Certainly engineers would prefer a robot or AI to a human driver as humans are generally inconsistent!

I remember being 6 and playing lego Indiana Jones. (I was into star wars, indie, and Harry potter) anyway I got to the part with an invisible bridge. I had no clue how to get passed. I remember it not saying anything and having you to rely on movie knowledge or luck of walking onto the platform. (I kept losing my coins by falling off so I asked my dad for a guide. Which he begrudgingly did even tho it wasted his precious data)

Yo so why the ads on the podcast on itunes and other options? I used to listen to the podcast at night but I can't listen to local grocery stores telling me the price on ribeyes and cherries while im asleep, and no way to remove the ads regardless of where I listen. Whatever happened to keeping the podcast ad free? or Why no midroll ads voiced by you guys instead rather than ads delivered by a robot voice.

podcast hosts like spotify and itunes add in adverts to podcasts without the permission of the creators constantly, it's honestly pretty disgusting. atm i'm using the app Acast, and there haven't been any insterted ads yet so if you're looking for a recomendation give that one a go.

I mean you probably know this but the AIs aren´t trolling but thats just how machine learning works. AlphaGO would basically give every move a winning percentage. So yes after having already won it probably just made random moves. At that point any move would be 100%. So it would do start it´s traversal find the first move and pick that. It uses the Monte Carlo algorithm (also used by many computer games like Total War btw but also in biochemistry for instance) where you basically go in one direction and then determine whether this was a "good" move or not. If the "good" thing is winning the match no matter where you randomly move it´s always the same. So what is selected is entirely random.
