I'm glad that Lewis has finally properly admitted as to why SOI has been full discontinued. I know it can be tough to keep such a high quality series going, especially when the previous workers have become uninterested in the project. It sucks that that is the case and even now, after so much time, it'll be unable to be restarted or brought back. I mean, I'd been following the series as it was being produced, and I'm kind of fine with it not being fully stopped. It was good as it lasted, and the people that have stuck to it are equally as good, so, thank you, Lewis, Thank you, Yogscast.

When Lewis was all salty about Pyrion's netflix recommendation, did anyone else immediately think of the episode when Lewis was ranting about how he read Twilight even though it's generally accepted as trash and went on about the way he forms his own opinion on books and movies and whatnot? Classic

Lewis. We love you. Shadow of Israphel brought joy to Millions of people. We clung to our chairs when the moment called for it and we cried when we lost our most beloved character. We will be there to watch the end, no matter what it may consist of or whether we/you have to go the route of a paid subscription to see the end. What you and Simon created wasn't just a stupid show on youtube consisting of sub-par actors but rather an amazing adventure that kept us wondering what next and how in the hell this was even possible. We totally understand that you feel alone and belittled in this great task but I honestly think you would be surprised if you asked your amazing community of people for help.I know I would instantly drop everything for you. You and Simon were the reason I decided to continue living. As I am sure many of your subscribers and fans have shared, I was in a terrible spot in my life and if I wouldn't have found you and honestly stopped and said "what the fuck is this" and started watching and researching minecraft/SOI I honestly don't know if I would still be here today. I am doing better now. Still trying to get to that happy spot. But I can honestly say that without you and your amazing/crazy friend Simon I don't know what I would have done. Thank you for all the laughs and geniunely friendly character. I love you friend!

I'm someone who doesn't really care that SOI isn't a thing anymore but I can sympathise with Lewis on what he says. I think his comparison to Half Life 3 is actually kinda fair; everybody expects HL3 to be the next best game of all time and if it is anything but the best game of all time then it's going to be remembered as a complete failure. SOI was what made the Yogscast big so if they were to release it now, whilst a really really huge economic gain for them, would maybe possible destroy their reputation which (unfortunately) has already been tainted through various events and perceptions of other KZbinrs anyway.

Well, there's a lot of incidents in the past like with Sjin being accused of online grooming (something I personally don't agree with but it was an incident regardless) back in 2016 and the handling of the incident at Minecon a few years back and, moreover, the handling of the TotalBiscuit situation regarding disclosure and things. There's just a lot of background noise that they decide not to address for reasons I assume are something along the lines of them not wanting to get involved in KZbin drama (which I think is completely fair, by the way) that's made them somewhat of a divisive topic unfortunately online

That is actually a very good point. When there's a long hiatus in a project, people will assume that the continuation would have been produced over the duration of the hiatus. The last episode of SoI was in 2012, so people would accept no less then six years of production quality for any continuation. I don't care that SoI is gone. It was a good series, but the following it has became a bit cultish. With the way some of the people go on about it, you would think it was actually written by a god. Whale Lords was nearly the same thing with higher quality, but it doesn't have anywhere near the same following.

Quick comment on the Valve discussion, it makes sense that you would find a lot of people who don't appear to be doing anything at a software development company, no matter who they are or what they are doing. Anyone who has ever spent time writing code will tell you that 80% of the time is spent just thinking about what your trying to do and how to do it, and an hours worth of thinking may only take 15 min to implement, and the more relaxed the environment is, the more effective people can be during the thinking phase.
@RufusOmega

There's also the fact that at Valve quite often they really aren't doing much of anything. Valve has a flat company structure where nobody (except the Lord Gaben) is really in charge of anything or anybody. If somebody has an idea then they see if anybody wants to work on it with them, and if they do it gets done. From spending some time in the VR recreation of the Valve offices it's plain to see that they don't even have a proper receptionist. It appears that even that job is done by whoever happens to be passing the lobby when a guest arrives. Then there's the guy who was hired to write the story for HL3, but eventually got bored and left when it became clear that nobody really wanted to make the game.

With the whole SOI thing. Here is the issue: I myself enjoyed SOI a long time ago and it suddenly one day stopped. Questions arose and so did speculation: did the server break? was there a dispute behind the lines? And that is the biggest issue as to WHY people to this day complain about SOI: It was never truly resolved. Sure some of us understand that the project became grating, and we know why it stopped, but the thing is: to find out how they truly feel you have to go to these offshoots of channels and dig deep into content referencing SOI to actually find out what happened. But what if you don't watch these other channels? or started to leave the yogs behind because they don't mention SOI at all? The issue stems from the lack of any announcement. In all these years I am not sure if there is a clear answer posted anywhere about the series. It is scattered among the channels. In this podcast Lewis confirmed our suspicions for many years, which is nice closure, but it took so long for us to have a grasp as to what happened that people who are still fans to this day never knew. The simple problem is: it should not take episode #67 of the revamped podcast channel around 25 mins in to find out how Lewis feels about SOI several years since it's last episode. When the series stopped, people at the time did assume that they gave up after a while and gradually people moved on: and then they uploaded 2 more episodes. Evidently the yogs wanted to give it a shot but it just drove a nail through the coffin. The issue here was that they did not say the purpose of returning to the series: to try and do some fan service and try to bring it back. Instead it looks like they WERE bringing it back and, well, dispelled presumptions about the servers or arguments behind the screen. It was no longer a issue with hardware or software or other external factors, but was to do with the creators themselves. Confusion lead to anger and people still have not seen resolve for it. I am not saying bring SOI back. They don't want to do it and Lewis is right: minecraft content is beyond the pail at this point, and most of us have grown out of it. And we all know with creative expeditions: by returning to a project with no esteem for it, it ends up going down hill: like an artist becoming an accountant or a miner becoming a bin cleaner. Its doable but not enjoyable. What should really happen is that the Yogs need to, before it all comes to an end, do their oldest fans a favor: those who still remember, and make an official message. Explain why it ended, and the creative pursuits. In a business standpoint: nothing will change. Maybe some people will stop watching, maybe some old fans with return, really depends on the response. As Lewis said: their audience is newer: so it won't do much harm to the new people who don't understand it and will only affect the older ones who do. But what it will mean is if anyone ever asks about SOI: he can now say "Check the video over on the X channel: we addressed it" and be confident to say a summed up reason why SOI no longer exists: "We lost our passion for the project and wanted to move on and not make our channel about this one project" or something like that. And this leads to one last issue on SOI is the response to the questions. The Yogs get bombarded with this question so much. People should stop as their answer does not change, and I feel sorry for the Yogs who have to suffer it: but their answer has been clear enough: they don't really want to. They usually laugh and make a joke about the matter each time. I feel the purpose behind not answering to their heart is because of business and the repercussions it will have. However the longer they wait the worse it has festered, like an infection. Its nasty at first but should be seen to quickly before it gets worse. And the SOI thing has festered for a VERY long time. Sure their new audience is moving past this and the Yogs are growing once more: which I love, but if they want to move to a new era and leave the dregs of the past behind: it needs to be addressed and then it can be gone forever and no one can justify it existing anymore.

New Tri-Force tee shirt : "You have to have seen the movie, you wad!" LOL Also, Lewis is super on at the end... the existence of the internet makes all the difference. We only had primetime tv that you had to watch when it fucking broadcast, or else we were fucking around outside. Or, in my case, reading comic books or taking apart my parent's cameras and electronics and shit. There was a fair bit of tv but not at *all* like the amount of content that exists now.

As someone working in animation, I think you guys have hit it pretty dead on. The writing often has to be good regardless of visual style, yet the animation can be attractive and draw people on its own. Shows can be overproduced and mishandled in both writhing and design, it's finding the right balance between the two that makes it last. Thanks for making this dudes, alway fun to listen to hear you guys.

The way I see Valve is like a pitching business. Similar to how publishers work. Staff will pitch their games/software towards the publisher/final design team and they will decide if the market is big enough and see if the product can make money for the company. Furthermore, Steam is their moneymaker so they don't have the stress of needing new methods of making money.

To be fair, I played about 200 hours of Fallout 4 and really, really hate the game because as a Fallout fan boi I felt that I absolutely needed to spend time and look for anything entertaining to justify my purchase of it once the refund hours passed by. I didn't really find very much, I would equate maybe 5-10% of the time I actually spent in that game was worthwhile.

We met Turps and Sjin in Dublin there last week. They were sooo nice, open and genuine, it was great! With SOI I'm not dying to see more but I'm sad that it seemed to fall apart and end so abruptly. Upon SOI they built this amazing content machine and yet SOI is just sitting there, like Lewis could do anything with it eg. make a D&D series based on the lore, license it out, let Tom or someone take it over. I'm not begging for any of this, it's just baffled that Lewis won't use the IP he built this little empire on.

I think it would make you die hard fan base incredibly happy if you made a new episode. Even more so if you got your fan base involved in its creation.

The disintegration joke only really works if you set it up correctly. Just quoting Peter without any sort of humorous context makes it sound like you're complaining about something as trivial as a stomach ache (but on the flipside, every marvel fan and their grandmother knows what you're referencing, so the quote is appreciated regardless).

Hearing you guys talking about SoI made me feel sad. Maybe just do one more, who knows. I liked it, I would watch it. Just like the YoGPod, it was cool.

"Oh that's the last straw! You nerfed mage! I'm going to complain! Fucking developers not thinking about us mages! My Staff of the Unholy Dick has been nerfed one final time and now I can no longer gank noobs in the conflicted zone!" I've never seen a more accurate depiction of modern wow players
