Pflax, you know Earth has gone through I think five plus apocalyptic events in it's time. All of which the vast majority of life on Earth dies. Yet despite that life all ways bounces back, because life is tough as fuck. So taking all that into consideration I don't see how the human effect on planet Earth will be any different than any of the other horrible shit this worlds been through. Sure we may take out the vast majority of life on this Earth ( including ourselves maybe) but life will bounce back. It may take a fucking long time but so be it, Earth doesn't care.

It's called a strawman. It happens a lot the time with issues like that. Many people, when taking a position, conflate their side with 'Good people' and the opposing side with 'Bad people'. When it happens, the assumption is that the opposition has their opinion specifically to be bad, instead of different people with different opinions.

You´re right. The second half of that comment isn´t explaining what a strawman is, it was meant to explain why people use them. In my experience, people arguing in good faith don´t use strawmen because they view the opposing position as logically derived and consistent, even if they disagree strongly with it. It seems to me that strawmen are most often used by people who are somehow ideologically hardline to the point where they view their position as correct and valid while viewing opposing positions as incorrect and invalid arguments. The logical end of that mindset is that opposing views get pathologised as entirely wrong, illegitimate, and immoral while the supporting viewpoints are perceived as entirely correct, legitimate, and rightous. Therefore, the person using the strawman has already been put in the mental position to use the hyperbole or moral extreme stances you mentioned.

But I think the majority of time it’s because people aren’t eloquent enough to articulate themselves properly, and so they just use a point that highlights their emotions - not one that tries to solve the problem.

I don't think there is a single scientist that is saying the Earth's entire biological collection of life will be wiped out- Sips is right, life will survive, even if it has to start from simple life forms again. The planet survived an asteroid for God's sake. God alrighty, Pyrion being incapable of grasping this, is infuriating. Edit: In the end, he seems to get it, but still be quite upset, while only stating the Earth is worth existing, if there is life on it.... So maybe he doesn't...

Sips was actually saying that these mottos like, "Save the planet" are missing the point. The Earth will be fine when we go extinct. The motto should be "Save humanity." venus, having an average temperature of 864 degrees according to google used to be around the same conditions as Earth before it got caught in a global warming death spiral after volcanoes shat out a bunch of co2 which lead to its oceans boiling, which then couldn't absorb heat effectively so it just kept heating till it got to the state it is now. so yeah, the earth will probably sort itself out
