Lewis is completely right: young people would often love to farm, grow their own stuff, be self sustaining and so forth, but often simply don't have even a small garden space. It's a great balance to having a ton of screen time.
@tylermech663 жыл бұрын
I've got the space, but I'm too terrified of bugs and weak to heat to do so, but I do like the idea of growing my own herbs. I suppose I could try on cooler days, plant some seeds and lazily check up on them every now and then. It'd probably be 50/50 on whether or not my herbs would ever grow properly, but I'd likely get something out of it.
@greennin3 жыл бұрын
@@tylermech66 I have been terrified of bugs my whole life. Literally frozen by the thought of them, can't google them at all, close to getting a heart attack etc. But I'm doing okay with them now, simply because I see them as one of us, just another living being trying to get by in whatever way they can. Cause we're all related on this planet. Every life form. My fear was misplaced. This helped me. I don't mean this to sound like some hippy babble, kill the little fuckers if necessary.

Hey as a electrician I can explain the finger magnets, when a conductor has electricity running through it, it creates a magnetic field, the wires in your home that connect all your outlets all have relatively weak magnetic fields. The idea behind a magnetic finger implant, is that you can tell if something you're about to access is live by touching the tip of your finger to insulated part of that network such as the jacket around the wires, this prevents you from shocking yourself or potentially electrocuting yourself. At least here in the States it's kind of seen as a unnecessary thing, there are testers made to do essentially the same thing that don't cost very much, however back in the day when those testers weren't developed or were very expensive, It was worth it to get a magnet jammed in your finger instead.

As a musician who has been performing independently for over 20 years, it's refreshing to hear Flax's take. It's not ordinary to hear such a nuanced outlook coming from someone "outside the music industry" People don't generally realize the difficulties of surviving as a band. Unless you are one of about two or three dozen musical acts, every show you put on operates at a loss. Never mind the costs associated with producing CD's and merchandise that you can only hope to sell. And touring is a whole other nightmare in itself...
@MNewton3 жыл бұрын
I always think about music that doesn't lend itself to live performance. For instance, I saw Juno Reactor a million years ago and Ben (the only person in the 'band') had hired tribal dancers from somewhere (their front man spoke barely enough English to thank the crowd at the end) to do their thing to his music and I always think about if they hadn't been there it would have just been some shlubby looking dude grooving and occasionally pushing buttons or swapping patch cords. It was a cool experience but I doubt every electronic musician can find a way to make a live performance viable.

I can't stress out watching a really good artist, because even if they do something really off or weird I will end up just thinking "Eh they know what they're doing I'm sure it will all come together in the end" and for Bob Ross especially, that was definitely true. I'd be like "What...?" and then mind blown, it actually worked perfect. So if anything I just end up feeling more relaxed because I feel confident that this person will make everything okay.

I think you're right about losing something with convenience, but it's that convenience that lets the harder way be enjoyable. Sure, I enjoy knitting, but if I had to knit all my clothes, it would be busy and stressful. And gardening is nice, but what if you had to grow everything that you eat, and make all your clothes, and build your own house and furniture... I don't think there would be time to really enjoy all these things without some conveniences to take off the pressure. Even now, a lot of people have to work too much to have time for hobbies like gardening at all.

So, I personally know two bands that make solid money from doing shows exclusively. They are cover bands and they do a great job. Both pull the ladies that want to rock out and dance, and they pull the fellas that want to offer up the drinks to the ladies. The bar makes bank, the bands make bank. It's win-win. That's how a touring act makes money. They must attract. One band even makes good money on merch. I also know several other bands that do not make money from shows and do it for the passion. Their music is unknown and very genre heavy, like black metal. Basically, if a group wants to thrive, they got to get the women out on the floor, is how I see it.

Hate to disagree flax, but the majority of small musicians depend on touring as their main source of income, I know this firsthand. I would argue more so than the larger bands who have plenty of income coming through merch and album sales. Hence why so many have had to pick up a second job during the pandemic, the albums/stream sales are still there but the touring is the main source of income for the majority of small artists. I don’t really think this is something you can google the answer for - the music scene is so segmented and the difference between artists is so vast that it’s hard to compare one experience to another. The vast vast majority of musicians aren’t going to sell out Wembley, but the few hundred pounds they make at the local venue can be the difference between food on the table or not.
@jimi1593 жыл бұрын
Particularly DJs and music producers - with most dance music scenes the merch and album sales are minimal, and the artists rely on touring or other routes like selling sample packs/mastering tracks etc.

Bands have to tour to make money, they don't make money from record sales. The artist gets a fee from the venue and the venue is liable for selling tickets. Utterly inaccurate Flax.

Pyrion continuing to be stupid about touring. Small bands never made money on albums cause they didn't sell albums. If they did it was on tour. They make money on merch sales and ticket sales. Always has been that way. And the only reason these studios are getting fucked by spotify now is cause they weren't proactive in making a counter to Napster.

Their perception of physical fitness and gym is so nerdy, it's everyone fit is either a roid raging gym bro or gaunt? Have you never seen someone physically fit? Most muscular people look much healthier than a chubby dad body with zero muscularity. Those who work out alot but have those thinner, tigher muscles are working for endurance muscles most likely for a sport and are some of the most physically fit people on the planet. Just seems like quite a bitter perception "I don't want those crazy fit bodies," as if you can accidentally just atain that... I think pyrion might realise how hard that is a few weeks in.

Pyrian, did you also think that those documentaries about the healing power of crystals, or ghost hauntings were also true and accurate? YOU ARE STILL WRONG.
