I suffered for about six months. My trigger finger got progressively worse. I tried ice, exercises, splints, Motrin, but nothing worked. Mine got so bad that when my finger "locked" in a bent position, it felt like someone had stuck a ice pick in the base of my finger. I opted for the injection. It helped a lot. My finger no longer locks, and the mobility in my finger has returned 90-95%. And NO pain.

Here is my 2 cents. I have just finished getting over my 3rd trigger finger! First was the middle finger, then each thumb over a period of 2 years. Mine have always come in the winter months. After about 5 months of my thumb not bending too well, it has now finally come back to normal. I did many self massages and allowed the thumb to not bend. , yet trying to bend it when stretching it. Just to give some of you hope if you persevere. Not sure why I am getting so many, it is an idiopathic condition. Avoiding surgery for me was a big plus. :).

Good for you! Self massage can and does work. And stretching! And the right splints. Western Medicine tends to go to drugs & surgery. There are alternatives: A physical therapist who specializes in hands.

@@susanbennett6688 I actually got a fourth trigger finger the following winter, argh. But was happy to not have anymore last winter. Rubbing hands and stretching them out as far out as possible were my favorite. I also like to wash my hands with cold water, for what it's worth. Those who do get surgeries seem to be happy, but I'm of those that prefer to avoid if possible. Maybe my method is slower, but in the end it all worked out.

I looked up what happened because I was tightly holding the leg of a ladder so my mom didn't fall and I let go not being able to move or feel my fingers right. I tried moving them and was able to get (after trying really hard) my index and ring finger back up, but not my middle. I had to pull I back up with my other hand and it felt really squeaky like metal that needed to be oiled or something. This is the first time this has happened and it was caused by gripping the ladder tight, so hopefully it doesn't happen again.

I have trigger thumb and it is trapped in a straight position. I need to get surgery because it didn't respond to cortisone injection. I don't fear the surgery but the cost is horrific. My "copay" is $700!
@whbclaire
@whbclaire 8 жыл бұрын
I did end up getting it done and am so glad -- it's such a relief to have my thumb back. Unfortunately, I had to pay $900 in various copays and that was AFTER the hospital gave me a 50% discount. All insurance plans are crappy these days because the insurance companies are so greedy. Fortunately, the hospital let me pay it off a little at a time.
@whbclaire
@whbclaire 8 жыл бұрын
The shots don't work. The surgery is really quick and easy, not much pain and there isn't too much recovery involved. It's worth the cost if the hospital will late you pay in installments.

+golden child Look up side effects before doing a lot of cortisone shots. Not such good stuff. I believe it's hard on cartilage as well. I don't know whether are the shots what affect the nearby knuckle joints. All your money wasted in shots that could have gone towards surgery that has a high rate of success. I'm sorry to hear it was so expensive. I hate hospitals but after research, including reading your blog, I went straight for surgery. I became more convinced shots were a money maker for the doctor. Surgery is 95% successful with almost 0 recidivism.
@whbclaire
@whbclaire 8 жыл бұрын
I tried the shots one time and they didn't work. My doc then said if they won't work one time, they won't work ever and we went right to surgery. Unfortunately, the idiot insurance companies FORCE you to try the shots first.

Almost immediately. By the next day the thumb was able to function well. Took a couple of months for the swelling at the incision site to die down but it wasn't sore. The surgery was well worth the price.

I've been dealing with my trigger finger of my middle finger for a little over a year. I workout at a gym a lot and it bothers me when i try to lift heavy. Last summer, I had an injection treatment and two weeks of OT and it helped 85%, but lately it's starting to bother me again. Two day ago, it locked up on me and it was slightly painful too. I might just get a second shot and hopefully it will fix it this time.

After watching the video and reading all the comments I came across that there’s no treatment or physio for it apart from surgery. I think most of the people were looking for some sort of exercise to heal the problem as a treatment rather going through an operation. So I am requesting to everyone that if anyone know any types of exercise which can get a bit remedy out of it please share with us. Many thanks

My pinkie just suddenly starting doing this a few minutes ago and I have no clue why. I can move it fine, but when I bend it, it suddenly snaps to a further position. Like imagine these numbers are the position changing: 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11. Like it’s skipping to a further angle/position when I bend it.

Just developed this condition and it is so painful. I've had both carpel tunnels done as it was waking me at night. Now this has started to do the same. I also have arthritis of both shoulders which can also wake me at night but the finger is a sharper pain and have found myself having to take a painkiller in the middle of the night to enable myself to get back to sleep. I intend to get an appointment to see my doctor tomorrow but the top half of my body is in such a mess as I worked as a farm labourer for 41 years and when your young you don't realise what damage you do lifting and carrying heavy things.

I have trigger finger in my middle and ring finger in my right hand, have my whole adult life...luckily mine isn't painful but I also suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome. Had surgery on the right hand a few years ago because I had trouble holding a spoon while feeding my baby...fixed the cts but not the trigger finger...I still have cts in the left side and I feel your pain, literally...it wakes me at night sometimes to the point of tears (normally I am so tolerant with pain!) and is numb yet somehow still painful during the day.

Earlier this year I developed what my physical therapist called the "beginning of trigger finger" in my index finger. As silly as it sounds, I sprained my finger trying to turn off my new car because I went to turn the key fob as I had always done in my old car, and my hand got caught awkwardly. Finger became super swollen and I kept going to work (office) and using it on the computer. Went to a few months of physical therapy and my PT said you might deal with this for life, but that he doesn't think it's bad enough to warrant surgery. Essentially what happens is my index finger (right hand) pops at the base of the finger when I move it in certain ways, but it doesn't get stuck or give me pain to bend/straighten (knock on wood). It does however become sore/itchy/irritated all the way up my forearm when I'm using the computer. Feels like it's become an issue involving my entire right hand. I haven't spoken to anyone else who has this issue - most people's trigger finger stories seem different. Can anyone relate? Would love to hear your feedback and if you've had any success in finding resolution... thanks :)

mortalkombatxvids hey! Sorry to hear you’re experiencing this too. I know how hard it can be to deal with physically and psychologically too. My best advice is to treat it as a whole limb if that makes sense. Work out all the muscles around it. Stretch them and massage gently. Ice when you get inflammation. And strengthen. I haven’t gotten rid of the popping yet but stretching has helped me a ton. I showed the issue to my chiropractor and even tho most of my symptoms are in my index finger he thinks it’s due to tension up near the elbow. So that’s what I’m working on alleviating now. Best of luck to you!!! Keep your head up

i would go and get it checked out. you will probably have two options, one would be an injection in the hand and the other is surgery. My doctor said that it was a fairly easy surgery to do, and it takes about 10 minutes, and the hand should be back in business in several days. The injection he told me has a somewhat 50/50 chance, depends on how bad and into the symptom it is. If they catch it early the injection might work for you. or ibuprofen or ice, though that might not work. Good luck! :)

Golfer2142 - I am the inventor of DigiGard a miniature finger brace for golfers and until recently bowlers. Been a user of tape, wraps etc and all come short on effectiveness. I came to realize that these solutions are misapplication. You wouldn't wrap your knee with tape if it was injured, you would wear a brace. It offers protection, flexibility and compression. DigiGard gives you the same application and that's why they work.

@@morganpowell5105 yes! But the mistake was not also operating the central index finger nex to the one being operated. I have problems with that one too but smaller. So they should have done 2 fingers at the same time.

My thumb was stuck straight, not curved. It wasn't budging after two months and cortisone isn't great if repetitively used so I steered clear of that. Surgery has a 95% success rate with very little recidivism so seemed a better option than dinking around wasting money on something that MIGHT work and was painful too. After reading all the blogs of people who had injections and they didn't work permanently, 85% success rate just didn't seem realistic.

I am 59 years old, and being treated for carpal tunnel in both hands, sleeping with the splint gloves for 3 weeks and have some relief. But I am also having trigger finger/thumb on each hand. Seems to be rotating. This happens when I first wake up in the morning or when I take a nap. Is this mostly a result of the carpal tunnel, or different issue altogether?

Please help me, my problem is actually with the "stuck" part; after riding my bicycle I found that my left index finger can no longer fully extend. I tried massaging the joint sideways and when I tried straightening it it hurts a lot. I need to know if it's ok to just fully force it straight? Thank you.

This video completely left out finger exercises that can be done to strengthen them with the hope of naturally healing them. I watched a chiropractor explain these, but I won't post the link here. Consider that alternative too, as I'm a trigger finger thumb victim for the past year or so with the clicking just beginning yesterday. I'll try those natural approaches long before I try cortisone or surgery and see what happens.

BTW my tragger finger has by almost 100%.

I think this is part of the health care system. Does someone had a similar issue? Please help

I have trigger fingers (both middle fingers) but it is not at all painful. I remember I have it since elementary school. The only pain I remember was that one time my right finger was stuck in the bent position and I need to use the edge of the bed and pull my finger straight (painful afterwards). Right now I don't feel pain at all. (tbh I don't even know if it's trigger finger...)
