Trimming A Donkey named Sal. RJF

This is the third time I've trimmed this little guy. He was quite cantankerous the first time. But he has figured out that I'm not his enemy. He is getting a bit straighter each time. They call him Sal. Short for Salvador.

Yeah those donkeys that the Chinese trim are abused their whole life! And how they cut their hoofs with pruning shears and then with the blade is cruel! The way they tie them up and twist their lips and ears! I can't watch their videos anymore and i don't. Rocking J Farrier and acouple other farriers i watch. Rocking J Farrier i watch every video that he shares i watch! Once i found his videos.

I agree with person who mentions the Chinese farriers, they are brutal and the devices they use are so antiquated and a bit barbaric. But the owners are worse! Bringing in these poor animals that their feet are so overgrown and you can tell they are in pain. So sad. I wonder what would happen if an American Farrier went there and showed them how its done. Oh, the trimmings from those hooves, my old cattle dogs used to use them as chew toys...lol

Linda, They do have a whole different approach. I doubt you could change much going over there. They would be trying to show you how it's done. A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still. And yes all Dogs love the trimmings. The frog is their favorite. But they sometimes throw them up. Some folks don't like that on their carpet from inside dogs. Thanks for watching.

I always enjoy watching you do your work! And how you make the donkeys, mules and horses that you trim and shoe feel comfortable and try not to feel scared. I'm thinking about getting some donkeys latter when i get out of California and I'm wondering about how much it is to trim them because i want to be able to take care of them the right way all the time and not let them go without getting them trimmed. And the donkeys will be pets for me. Thank You for sharing this video with us!

Glenn, I usually get $75, but if they are long and difficult sometimes $100. I gal called and had got 2 BLM Donkeys. I wouldn’t recommend that. They want to bite and kick. I had to get my rope out and teach them a couple tricks. Find you some gentle, already good to be around ones unless you really want a project.

@@RockinJFarrier Thank you! I don't know if it's going to be BLM or not. I just want some that I can go out and be able to brush them and whatever else i can do for them so i have something to occupy my time since i don't work anymore. Because i enjoy being around animals.

@@RockinJFarrierYeah figured that they would be pretty wild from BLM and i do want to be able to pick their hoofs up to atleast clean them out. I'm going to have to look around for some donkeys that have been taken care of and are pretty good about having their hoofs trimmed and are friendly when being around.

I don’t understand why people neglect their animals. If they just got regular trims for this little guy, he would not have all that stress on his tendons from that overgrowth. I am sure your rates aren’t so exuberant that they can’t afford your regular services? And if they cannot then they should let him go to a home that can afford to take care of him. I have taken in several donkeys and mules that people let go and I admire when they put the animal first and do what is best for it.

Dog mom, Getting everyone to do that is an impossible challenge. Life has a way of taking the priority. It’s far from a perfect world out there. I have to deal with it day in and day out. Glad you are doing your part. Thanks for watching.

There are always exceptions. The Jenny has the confirmation of the horse and the disposition of the Jenny. So anything is possible.
