One of the most important things to do when cleaning up a commentator like that is to undercut the Mica which separates the copper segments. Mica is a lot harder then the copper and as the copper wears down again the Mica will start to interfere with the brushes causing them to hop and causing arcing and premature wearof the brushes.

My marcher jet washer commutator has a higher segment than the orhers , what can I do, I don't have a large. Could I use a hand drill and burr?

More than likely if there's a high bar on the commutator (copper bars) its lifted of its base and probably not repairable. Using a hand drill will ruin your armature for sure.

Nicely done video - excellent close-ups. Good narrative. I would like to know how you can use a 3-jaw chuck? How can it be in-line with the tail stock? I would think a 4-jaw centered with a dial-indicator would be necessary.

Thanks. I don't know how, but this chuck has always been within a half thousandths runout even with out adjustment screws. It's a no name chuck that came with the lathe. I just keep the scroll gear and jaw teeth as clean as I can.
