This looks fantastic! I'm not even a fan of Chinese food but over the past couple of years, I'd tried some Chinese dishes from the Caribbean (e.g. Trinidad, Jamaica, Guyana, and Suriname) and I fell in love with them. This dish is something I haven't tried yet although I did see it on a menu once at a restaurant in Toronto. But I suppose I could just make it myself since this recipe doesn't look too complicated. Thanks for posting this.

Use salt vetsin white pepper fivespice aniseed powder .mix all together then rob all over chicken. Let it soak over night then take it out the fridge let it get almost to room temperature then rub light soy sauce .fry in deep oil at 350 ° .one 4lb chicken takes 15 to 20 minutes to fry properly if ur frying it whole. If ur using parts it may use less time it depends o size of parts.

Oh, that must be the pack sold in Trinidad. I'm over in London here and the five spice taste bad like if you put baby oil in your mouth. I had to resort to finding the star anniseed spice itself and grinding it as a rub for the meat.

Summary of her recipe Ingredients: - Chicken pieces (drumsticks, thighs, wings) - Soy sauce - Oyster sauce - Sesame oil - Cornstarch - All-purpose flour - Baking powder - Ground white pepper - Salt - Chinese five-spice powder - Ginger (grated) - Garlic (minced) - Scotch bonnet pepper (optional, finely chopped) - Green onions (sliced) - Vegetable oil (for frying) Marinade: 1. Prepare the Marinade: - In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, and finely chopped Scotch bonnet pepper (optional). 2. Marinate the Chicken: - Add the chicken pieces to the bowl and mix well, ensuring each piece is coated with the marinade. Cover and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results. Coating: 3. Prepare the Coating Mixture: - In another bowl, mix cornstarch, all-purpose flour, baking powder, ground white pepper, salt, and Chinese five-spice powder. 4. Coat the Chicken: - Remove the marinated chicken from the refrigerator. Dredge each piece in the coating mixture, ensuring an even coat. Shake off any excess. Frying: 5. Heat the Oil: - In a deep frying pan or wok, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Ensure there is enough oil to fully submerge the chicken pieces. 6. Fry the Chicken: - Carefully add the coated chicken pieces to the hot oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan. Cook each batch for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is golden brown and crispy. Ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). 7. Drain the Chicken: - Remove the fried chicken from the oil and place on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil. Serving: 8. Garnish and Serve: - Garnish the fried chicken with sliced green onions.
