This is #1 in my top-5 boxing masterpieces I've ever seen. #1 Hopkins - Trinidad (entering the ring to America The Beautiful and chanting USA! USA!! at the end was very touching. #2 Leonard - Hagler #3 Holyfield - Tyson 1 #4 Leonard - Benitez #5 Sanchez - Wilfredo Gómez Honorary mention Pacquiao - Margarito. Manny started in the flyweight division. My God that was the biggest size difference I've ever seen in a boxing match. It looked like an early UFC fight when they had no weigh divisions. I never thought I could love a boxer more than Ray Leonard but Manny, IMO, is the greatest boxer of all time. Yeah yeah, I know Márquez gave him fits but Ken Norton also gave Ali fits and people say he was the greatest. Norton won fights 1 and 2, and maybe even the 3rd too, IMO. Manny coming from flyweight to fight and beat super middleweights is nothing short of spectacular. The only eight-division world champion in boxing history. And he skipped two divisions too. If he hadn't he would've been a ten-division champion.

@@mongoslade277 Yeah brother, Sanchez might have been the greatest ever if it wasn't for his untimely death. I'm too lazy to look but I think Wilfredo Gomez had like 30 wins in a row and all by either KO or TKO. He was a baaaad mother but that night he ran into another bad mother who was badder than him. Come to think of it, that performance by Sanchez should be higher on my list since the quality of the opponent he was fighting. Danny "Little Red" Lopez was no slouch and Sanchez destroyed him twice. I don't think anyone ever hurt Sanchez. Yeah that Big-5 will never be matched again. I should've put Duran/Leonard 1 on my list because Duran fought a great fight too. Hopkins was crazy strong at L.H (when he eventually moved up) and used to rag doll some of those much bigger guys around the ring, as that was his natural weight class all along. He sweated down to M.W, re-hydrated before the fights & incredibly, still retained all his strength & endurance. Fighters moving up from the lower weight classes, like trinidad, de la hoya, wright & pavlik, had no chance against him physically. That natural strength gap was insurmountable, even if they could match him for boxing ability - especially as he had a great chin too.

Honestly Trinnidads dad should have thrown in the towel after the 10th round to avoid permanent damage to his son cause Trinidad was never the same after this fight.

Real talk, every moment Felix absorbed a shot from Bernard he wavered/buckled ever so slightly. I'm a big admirer of both of these men. I watched the fight while in LA. Viewing Felix's responses that night to getting clipped and visibly shaken by Bernard didn't bode well for the outcome in Felix's favor. That said, both are stone cold masters of the craft. Respect!

@@mr.nobody9697 Its a myth that Oscar ran. He outpunched and outlanded Tito in the 9th. In the 10th he outpunched and outlanded Tito but was less effective missing a whole lot more than Tito. In punch stats, he utterly destroyed Tito from Round 1 to 9. He lost the last 3 rounds but they were close rounds. The rest of the fight, Oscar destroyed him. Oscar was rightly told by his corner to box and stay out of danger, he should have been many rounds up but the fight was fixed anyway. Tito was Don King´s fighter and Jerry Roth had Tito winning 3 of the first 4 rounds then giving Oscar the 12th to make the fight look closer. If Roth scored the fight like a normal person, we wouldn´t even be talking about it 20 years later.

Hopkins was masterful in this fight. His most complete performance for me. Trinidad however looked dwarfed in this fight. He was never a middleweight. Had the perfect frame for 147-154 lbs and he should have moved down after this fight. He would have easily reigned in that division.
@Romans8-94 жыл бұрын
Oscar whooped Tito. So much so, Tito refused to ever fight him again. I agree Bhop was too big for Tito just like he was for Oscar but I don´t think Tito reigns the division, especially without fighting Oscar again.

@@seetsamolapo5600 Usually, the guys who have been great at 154 have that height of 5’10-5’11 with a natural walk around weight of 165-170. Leonard, Hearns, McCallum, Jackson, Norris, all had a similar build. Robinson would have been perfect at 154 because a lot of his fights at 160 he was always weighing in between 155-159.
