thats like my dad. he lost friends who survived the war, simply because they gave up on themselves - consequently everyone else followed their lead and gave up on them too. that was how i learned if you throw yourself away don't expect anyone else to catch you. but my dad never let that part of his life get in his way. i guess in his mind the war only lasted a few minutes, and he still had several more decades left to live and learn. he also runs a successful business.

Between the Smallpox (1830s-69), the Ft. Benton Whiskey traders (1869-1874), the last Buffalo(1880-81) and then being forced to live on Reservations as "wards of the State", It's a wonder there are any Blackfoot(Siksika, Kainai, North and South Piikani)left at all. These are some tough people who deserve our respect.

I 100% admire this guy. I like how he doesn’t sugar coat things and says it as it is. My hat is off to him, I wish there were more people like him. Especially when he said what his dad told him, can talk about things or you can get your ass in gear and get the job done. Words to live by. Amen brother !!!!

Lmfao everyone says they’re so fascinated by natives yet do nothing to actually stand with them in their fight against our tyrannical govt that has been waged for nearly 600yrs now. Ppl are only now starting to wake up to the actual truth of what govt actually is and what they do! Govt isn’t there to protect anyone it’s there to protect themselves and their own.. Wake up

Ok so- what do they preferred to be called. And I’m trying to be of the utmost respect here. Is it Indigenous?, Native,? First Nation ? Apparently since I was adopted I have some of the blood but everyone else claims that so I don’t wanna get laughed at - but I am proud of what little I have and shows when I was very young how interested I was in the culture at 6 yrs old. Still am. I’m support the M.M.I.W. movement!!!!! But also would LOVE to have my own ranch in Montana-! That is where I’m trying to retire to ! Anyways Great video !!!!

Hi Trinity love this video, here in Ireland we have great respect for the Indian nation, back in 1845 to 1849 we had a famine in Ireland and the only nation to help us out was the choctaw Indians so to this day we do respect them after all they just came through the trail of tears and death. A leader of the choctaw Waylon Gary White Deer now owns a home in Ireland

The conversation about taking care of yourself reminds me about when you fly on an airliner and they tell you when the masks drop down, always put your own on first, then you'll be able to help somebody else. I don't consider it selfish at all. It's all about keeping yourself fit and capable...then you are able to provide for your family and others.

WOW, what a great video there trinity!! A #1 video that captures not only our heritage in people and their customs....but also the history of how things happened and evolved into what we have today. I love the cowboy & Indian theme of this and a true peacefulness of coexisting with one another...even after all the terrible things done on either side. I really like the laid back approach on life and people that Dougie has and the chit-chat you two had was so down to earth honest and again peaceful with respects to no right or wrong...just two humans enjoying one another's company!! Again well done on bring out yet another rancher - and how they operate in their own world. Trinity, I think you have managed to catch the true character of people you interview by the simple rides in the pickups and vehicles while talking away on life....indeed it is great to see other's concerns and their outlook on issues in today's world. Thankyou Dougie & you for a unbelievable history lesson that I sure didn't get or learn in school back in the day...learned so much and deepens my respect too people like that who stand their ground proud. Good job... stay warm over your way and thanks again for a great video!! God bless :)

At 52 and growing up in Butte, it amazes me how many stories we didn't get to hear in school. So much history in our own backyard. Had just a few "halfbreed" friends that introduced us to things like the Powwows and the culture. When my grandmother passed, one of the ways I dealt with her death was hearing the singing chants in my head/spirit. The only odd thing is we don't have any native blood in the family that I know of. 🥁 🐎 Really enjoyed this one Trinity.

oh trinity what can i possibly say after watching this video. thank you so very much for visiting the blackfoot rez. the whole time i kept thinking about my pow wow friend steve reevis. he left planet earth several years ago. i smiled throughout the entire video. i learned several things i didn't know about the history of bucking horses and the glacier park land rights. i saw a documentary about 10 yrs ago and they performed dna tests on wild mustangs in the u.s. and there are several bands that still carry the spanish bloodline. my favorite comment: "if there's two of you one is not necessary." lol ! now at my age i have several blackfeet in alberta canada that are now gone too. this video so warmed my heart and soul and life. again, you brought us something beautiful. well done trinity. and again...thank you. god bless. and thank you for the dougie links.

Trinity. IMHO this is one of the most valuable, of ALL of your valuable efforts, that you have ever done. Montanans have a blind spot when it comes to the culture of our indigenous people. They are underserved and unappreciated and mis- understood. When the term Bkack Lives Matter burbled up in the USA, I immediately thought Indigenous People Matter. I am so grateful for your work! Thank you.

Note for history discussion, competing companies Hudson's Bay and Northwest Fur Company, both established posts on the North Saskatchewan River in 1792 (more than 300 miles north of the Montana border. That summer a band of Piegans came to trade and Hudson Bay mapmaker Peter Fiedler travelled back to Montana with them for the winter. Those folks were more widely travelled than I am!

Inspirational doesn't even begin to cover it. i wish i'd found your videos years ago because they have definitely motivated me. i want to do what you guys do so bad it almost hurts to breathe. i may never reach your latitude but since finding your channel and even just listening to Dougie it's been encouraging and only made me double down. you know how you were talking about people telling you you can't do this or that, i've had to tune those people out. it hurt at the time because i saw them as intelligent. but then i started really examining their own lives and i didn't really like what i was seeing. around that same time i came across an inspirational quote saying "never take advice from someone you wouldn't trade places with" .... that was when i stopped listening and started doing. i don't want to take advice from anyone stuck in the mud. they might talk me into getting stuck too just so they'll have some company, rather than bust their asses to get themselves out of the mud. i try to tell my kids this stuff but i'm still working and haven't quite reached my success yet. HOWEVER.... i'm going to have them watch this so they can see what i'm talking about. he was right about not being able to help certain people. especially after they've spent years being demoralized. they should have never listened to the negative talk either. the world would be a different place if people would delete the word CAN'T from their vocabulary!!

Own people not liking me because I suceeded in School, college buying my own property and not dependiing on mom and dad. ..so that makes me better as they say..its hurtfull, but I just move on..this is own family, all half and step siblings.. they the worst...family.. I have more family and friends on the outside world. But I still keep my heritage, culture, and native dancing. keep up the good talks, I watch your videos.. and I even had a cup of coffee with you 😃

Wow, Trinity! That was my favorite interview ever! More of that, please. I loved that you said that you see other people as humans. Whenever I fill out paperwork that asks for race info, I go down to "other" & write in human. Dougie is so interesting, along with the country & how life is in that area. Horses are my personal thing too. I love everything about them & it was in me from birth. The greatest experiences of my life have been working with wild horses. One special stallion was literally the kindest soul Ive ever encountered. When he came into my life, he was caring for his infant orphaned son. I seem to have a tallent for going into a vast area & homing right into wild horse herds. I dont know why, it just happens.

Talking about wind, a friend of mine that lived for a time in western Kansas once told me the wind there is measured by a logging chain hanging from a tall metal pole. He said if the chain rattled against the pole, it was breezy. If the chain was standing straight out from the pole, it was gusty. When the links began snapping off the end of the chain, then you could say it was windy.

HAHA!! And, when the pole and chain disappear, it's tornado weather.

Great interview, the analogy of how we as people are really just like horses is perfect.
