TRIP REPORT | American Airlines - MD 80 - Dallas (DFW) to Savannah (SAV) | Economy

Welcome to another trip report1
On June 5th, I flew around the US to do some trip reports. My first flight was on a Delta Connection CRJ 900 from New York to Dallas. I decided to take an unreliable American “Mad Dog” for my second flight.
The on-time stats for this flight are not good. In fact, most flights are either severely delayed, or cancelled.
I also wanted to sit in Economy because the seats are in very bad condition (lol).
I hope you enjoy this special trip report!

Awesome trip report, gotta love the good 'ol AA Super-80! Lol, I have a picture of this aircraft, N964TW, at the same exact gate it was parked at in the video (C19) at the same time of day and I took it a month later after this trip. I hope you can do a trip report of you sitting in the back of an MD-80 to hear that awesome engine noise, as AA MD-80s have until September 2019 and Delta Maddogs have until 2021.

Great trip report, I love flying the AA MD-80s, in fact I just flew on 2 here in the last week on the OKC-DFW and DFW-OKC route. Gonna miss these birds when AA retires them.

Just something about that classic AA livery on the MD-83 that makes it look so good. The last time I had a chance to ride on the MD-83 was about 16 years ago!

Makes me feel old that's for sure. The older generation planes seem to just have a soft spot with me that the newer ones while they are pretty awesome just don't seem to be able to fill. Haven't seen any of the older planes in/out of CLT even though it is an AA hub, just mainly Airbus and 737s along with the usual regional planes.

Gonna miss these old birds😭. RIP AA MD-80!! I flew on them in 2001 to Wichita and back. The tail number was N574AA and N578AA. I also flew on a TWA MD-80 back in 1999. So this aircraft is very special to me

4:32 I flew on this exact plane from Dallas to Columbus in seat 3A in First Class, the seats were beautiful! The s80 should still be flying! Gone too soon period.

I sure hope American keeps some planes in that classic livery. I occasionally see a 737 at O’Hare that still has it.

Nice vid qman, always good to see the beautiful mad dog! I took one from DFW-LBB on my way back from PHX last thanksgiving. Totally loved it ! It was my first time on one but probably the last. They stoped service on the mad dog to AMA (my hometown). We now have the E175 which is also a great aircraft. Enjoyed the Super 80 so much and will definitely miss it!

Honestly the md80s are the best maintained planes I’ve ever flown on I mean considering half of them are from the 80s they are great I mean they are always clean and all and it’s sad that the last ones takes off in 2 days

"Do you have permission for that?" The old man in the front of the plane as you walked in said that. I like that. I had an FA. harp on me from Delta about having my camera in the window. And as I was filming the FA doing the safety demo. She told me to erase that shot. Do you ever had that issue.

At a time this plane was called DC-9...I flew in it and love the shape of this aircraft...Russian style rear flaps on tail ! And his specific metallic color is awsome ...;)

like your intro, nice that they have outdoor trams. free tour of the aircraft...haha. note your plane still has a TW tail number....up up and away TWA...reason why the 737 is low to the ground is due to original DC-9 being low to the ground.....easy/fast baggage loading...hurts 737 now due to max engine size limit... did you notice the metal strip running the length below windows, wonder if its a renforcement stringer ??? think cloth seats are more comfortable ....LOVE the classic JT8D-200 .....I spent 2 weeks at SAV when I was in the USAF reserves...dude in the LOO...haha....wish they used rear entry....on landing I spotted the GulfStream plant...glad you got to ride in a classic, first american twin jet :) enjoyed your report Quintin

Is there a way to tell which md80 tail numbers have these bulky eco seats and which md80 tail numbers have the lighter eco seats with leather headrests? Seeing if it was from TWA doesn't work as there are TWA aircraft with these bulky eco seat and TWA aircraft with the lighter eco seats

The Md-83's are from the late 90's. The REAL old ones are the md-82's. As of now American has just 1 active Md-82 in its fleet.

I flew in a plane that was the exact copy and paste to that one. I honestly hated it. There was no meal service for a 3 hour flight and the flight attendants looked not as professional as the newer planes. Not to mention dirty seats, and footprints on the window shade.
