TRIP REPORT | LUFTHANSA A320neo: The New Way of Flying! ツ | Frankfurt to Barcelona

Lufthansa Trip Report onboard the amazing new Airbus A320 Neo from Frankfurt to Barcelona.
My first trip with Lufthansa after the COVID crisis started. As every airline, Lufthansa has applied new rules for travelling safely during these difficult times for the whole world and aviation in particular.
It was a very nice flight onboard the Lufthansa A320 NEO. With a lot of planespotting in Frankfurt, a very turbulent approach over the sea in Barcelona, and some weird views of Barcelona airport due to the reduced operations.

Wonderful content again sir, despite me being 'old school' liking the more classic airliners (bae 146s, md80s, 73 classics etc) I do have a spot for the NEO. Awesome you were able to catch that signature PW1000 howl on take off and landing, not often the NEO's version does this. Smashed the like button!

The new normal for travelers, small price to pay for being in the clouds at 39,00 feet, aviation is stretching its wings, lets support it. Last time I flew Lufthansa was by chance. My Swiss flight from London to Zurich got cancelled due to bad weather in Zurich. I got rebooked onto Lufthansa via Munich

Muy triste la situación. En Junio solo Lufthansa, a través de Frankfurt, llegaba si venías de Viena. Tantos Vueling parados y el 1 de Julio mi hija no podía regresar por la quiebra de LEVEL Europa aunque había comprado el billete a Vueling. Pudo venir comprando otro pasaje a Ryanair. Totalmente de acuerdo. Mejor, más rápido (o como mínimo a la misma velocidad) pero lo que es seguro: mucho más relajado. Yo hace tiempo que tomé la decisión personal de no levantarme del asiento hasta que las 2 siguientes filas a mi lo hagan. Es tontería hacerlo. Si la gente probase a hacerlo le cogerían el gusto pronto jaja Saludos, Ivan! :)

Indeed, a very quiet aircraft. I got one from Frankfurt to Rome a few years ago and it was quite a difference in terms of noise. That said, the seats in Row 1 are definitely not as good on the NEO versus the older ones as they decided to put seats with fixed armrests in that row.

@@OnBoardHD I liked it a lot. I was two times the only passenger in the business class and the two flight attendants where carrying a lot about me. For a two hour flight you get a full meal. It is not comparable to the Lufthansa business class on such short flights. If you like, you can watch in my channel the take off from Bandar Seri Begawan. Maybe tomorrow I will load a short video from the business class cabin of their A 320.

Hi Lucas, I have never seen aircraft land on Runway 2 at BCN. Is this becouse the airport is quiet and they are only using 1 Runway rather than the normal 2 Runways ? Also very strange to see Ryanair and Easyjet at the other terminal. Strange times indeed.

The runway in use is only dependant on the wind direction. Even with another wind, due to the low volume of operations, Barcelona is only operating with 1 runway, both for takeoffs and landings. For what I've read, it will be back at the normal dual runway operation for August. Those Ryanair's parked at Terminal 1 were like... wtf? haha Even that I knew that they were going to be there (for now all operations are in Terminal 1) it was very strange :) Have great Sunday!

You should try and fly Blue air Romania, Even though it is the time that it is,they still operate flights between Romania and Spain! If you are lucky enough, you might fly their 737-500..even though it is Very very rare.

However, I always answer the same without any offence intended: I need a minimum of quality. I've received already 10 trips or so, that despite they were very interesting, I had to say no because they didn't meet the minimum standard. Porque los aviones no pueden hacer "lo que quieran". El tráfico de aviones tiene que seguir un patrón determinado y ordenado en la llegada al aeropuerto. Saludos!

Muchas gracias, Carlos! Es la habitual para vuelos nocturnos, que llegan entre las 23:00 y las 7:00 hora local para evitar ruido a las poblaciones cercanas al aeropuerto. Durante la noche el viento suele tener menos intensidad, por lo que no suele afectar para el uso de esa pista. Durante el día sí que es mucho menos común y sólo se usa si el viento tiene suficiente intensidad de esa dirección. Saludos

Pues la verdad es que no lo se. Debería aparecer en cualquier plataforma... Puede probar a entrar en KZbin.com a través del navegador, iniciar sesión y debería aparecerte. No tengo ni idea de cómo está el tema de las fronteras. No es algo que dependa de un país en concreto. Abrir a países de fuera de la Unión Europea es decisión colectiva de la Unión. Si me preguntas por mi opinión, diría que como mucho a finales de Septiembre... pero la verdad es que no tengo ni idea. Saludos!

Does anyone know if the middle row on Lufthansa is empty on some flights (due to Corona)? I booked a flight for August and you cant reservate the middle row seats, only the left and right row seats.

Middle seats are blocked even during OLCI, but it can change anytime and depending on the load.

They're blocked if there are not enough bookings to fill them. As soon as there are passengers to use those seats they will use those seats. As every airline, of course.

Thanks a lot, mate! Glad that you've enjoyed it! I think they got those 5 stars because of their long-haul service. I've never flown long-haul with them so I can't make an opinion. What I can say is that, for their short-haul service, no, they don't deserve them. They are like any other airline. However, that doesn't mean that their long-haul product can't deserve them :)

I flew a couple of times between Frankfurt and Delhi in the last years (of course not since Corona), I know economy, premium economy and business class in 380s and 350s (I was lucky to get upgrades into business 2 or 3 times). 350s and 380s are very comfortable to fly with, and the food was always for free, and good, even in economy. The business class food is excellent.

@@simonm1447 Thanks a lot for your feedback, Simon! I knew by watching trip reports that LH long-haul deserved those 5 stars. However, its short-haul I thing is far from deserving them. There are other European airlines offering a better service. However, LH is always recommendable for any type of flight :)

You can use flight radar 24, just note the aircraft's registration then type it in flight radar 24 and then you will get all the information about the planes! :D

Me llama la atención que Luthansa (lo mismo que Air Europa, etc) tengan vuelos entre Frankfurt-Barcelona o entre Frankfurt-Madrid; y sin embargo Iberia (compañía de bandera española) no tenga ni un solo vuelo entre Madrid y Frankfurt en todo el verano y es posible que tampoco septiembre(me cancelaron una reserva del 28 de agosto y otra del 12 de septiembre; incluida una también a Islandia a primeros de septiembre con vuelta el 9) ¿Cómo se explica eso, qué estará pasando en Iberia? Se entiende que se hayan anulado todos los vuelos comprendidos dentro del estado de Alarma y mientras estaban cerradas las fronteras y aeropuertos. Pero estas restricciones desaparecieron en Julio (incluso un poco antes); la prueba es tu vuelo sin problemas Frankfurt-Barcelona con Luthansa. No entiendo nada. Imagino que mi pregunta se escapa a los objetivos del canal y a lo que tu puedas saber; pero tenía que decirlo porque me tienen contento los de Iberia...

Pues la verdad es que no puedo responderte esa pregunta... Supongo que lo suyo sería preguntarle a la aerolínea si te pueden ofrecer alguna solución. Lo cierto es que la ruta a Frankfurt nunca fue una de las más fuertes de Iberia. Llegó a ser operada por Iberia Express en algún momento (si mal no recuerdo) y últimamente (antes del COVID) la volaba mucho con Air Nostrum (es decir, aviones con menor capacidad). Supongo que el hecho de que la ruta ya no era de lo mejor, sumado a la bajada de la demanda actual, han hecho que la ruta no se recupere hasta dentro de unos meses. Repito, esto es sólo mi opinión. Lo cierto es que no no tengo absolutamente ningún dato. Saludos y suerte!
