Regarding the startup, I was sitting right next to the engine on Emirates 777, loved when that GE monster began to spool up!! :-)) As for the landing at DXB, late night is a very busy period in Dubai, lot's of other flights lined up behind for landing so the tower often wants everyone to vacate the runway as soon as possible which is why the pilots have to make a short-field landing and leave the runway as soon as they can
@TheLayoverAviation2 жыл бұрын
Hey Gergö, you’re right about the late night landings, but it wasn’t late night! It was around 21:30 and the rush hour starts around 23:00. As you can see there was no rush to vacate the runway early so we vacated almost at the end. That’s why it surprised me. If it was during busy timings to vacate early I would have suspected so. Thanks for the insight!

A thought or two to what u mentioned just as the aircraft landed : Chances are that using the brakes results in more wear n tear than deploying reverse thrust. Plus the ambient temp in Dubai, even during the nights can b high so the brakes will take longer to cool so better to go light on them specially with such a long runway . Perhaps ?
@TheLayoverAviation2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for the comment! There is a lot of sense in what you say, but I still don’t think so. The temperature was fine, in the 20’s and the aircraft would remain on ground for over 5 hours. B777 brakes take around 60-90 min to cool (The time is actually calculated on the pilot tablet). The A380 and A350 will show you how long it will take for brakes to cool. Really wish I knew, cause I can’t say they did it “just because they wanted to”, but that’s what I suspect. With Swiss I always get full reverse in Dubai. I rarely do with anyone else, and I fly into Dubai 1-2 times a week.. See you around!

@@TheLayoverAviation Hi :) just to clarify it was most definitely a slice of a carrot cake, which is sort of a traditional cake from the canton Argovia. Usually they top it off with mini carrot shaped almond paste (or Marzipan in German). The chocolate they offer in all SWISS flights is fantastic. Sadly I'm not much of a cheese person though I'm swiss born and bred but if I'd like a cheese of choice it would be Gruyère.

But the last one is spoken by so few that it wouldn‘t make sense to offer it as an option for the IFE 😂. I have been on Swiss airlines once to visit Switzerland where my aunt lives and I will never fly with them again. The service was absolutely terrible for example, there was a cabin crew handing out food and when he came to me I asked him if they had the vegetarian option he said it ran out then I said really? Do you have anything without meat/chicken and his reply was “we do not have ANY more vegetarian options and you’re gonna have to cope with that.” Seriously? I asked him in a kind way and that’s the response I get? Second example I wanted to use the bathroom while he was handing out drinks to the passengers I stood up and there was clearly a big amount of space next to his cart I asked could I please go through to reach the bathroom? He literally shouted SIT DOWN IMMEDIATELY SIT SIT and the seatbelt sign wasn’t even on? There was a CLEAR amount of space next to him which I know I could go through. Final example when the flight was finally over the same guy was standing next to the door saying goodbye to everyone and instead of being kind and at least saying goodbye he rolled his eyes at me. That was the worst flight I have ever experienced and I hope that I never have to go on that airline ever again.

You are right when you say that Swiss is positioned as the premium brand within the Lufthansa group. That's sad enough. I've flewn with them several times from TXL ( Berlin ) via Kloten to LAX & BKK. Their crews are typically European. Rather profesional than warm hearted and friendly. The space in their 773 is ridiculous. You have more space in a chicken cage. I payed 100,- € for an ordinary seat ( 32 K ) at the aisle. No extra space for that money. There are 10 seats in one row and when they all eat it's tighter than in a prison cell. Their First & Business are really superb and state of the art, but Eco is bad. So it depends from your point of view and travel class.

Hey again Nikolaus! So I agree that I it felt a little tight but then again the flight was 100% full. I found it not perfect but not bad either. I was lucky not to have a sh*t neighboor who took my armrest or foot space, so despite being on a window seat I felt ok. But I can perfectly imagine it becoming frustrating for some, specially if you pay 100€. That’s a lot. Swiss numbers! And you’re correct about the crew. I only tried First and yes, it was great. Business never tried it because it just does not wow me. It looks so low and compact, I just have countless other preferences before paying for that. I might be wrong. And about the premium touch in the LH group, I guess it’s mostly the small details, such as more beverage, meal choices & quantity. But then it all depends on who delivers you the service. I still have ti publish my mega Lufthansa flight on a B747-400. Boy was the crew fun and helping me to film! See you!
