Turning the steering wheel left or right will activate a side LED head lamp to illuminate either side depending on whichever way car is turning...the respective lamp only turns on when either you turn steering wheel or use turn signal signal ...very cool feature

I have this car, the 350 one, Ultra Luxury, and I can verify that the side mirrors r auto dim, its just not aggressive as other brand/model. When the lights from vehicle behind is REALLY bright, thats when it kicks in, kinda make you feel natural as opposed to the green dimming. You have to drive it long enough to notice these subtle things. Thats what I like bout Lexus.
@PrimeAutotainment3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks fir letting me know! I didn’t see anything on any of Lexus Information about dimming side mirrors and never noticed a difference while driving or an actual visible outline of the electrochroamatic function so that’s wild. Sorry I missed that. You’ve got yourself a nice car 👍

@@PrimeAutotainment Lexus puts a lot of hidden tech in the car, like the highway auto passing (when you have the turn signal to the left, the car automatically knows u want to pass and auto accelerate). That feature is only available in the Toyota Safely Sense 2.5+, but Lexus puts it in the LSS 2.0. I was surprised when I discovered that!

That dip you’re mentioning toward the middle of the video, is meant to stop you from blinding drivers in front of you. Otherwise that would be perfectly lined up with where there driver rear view mirror is (in the US anyway). It’s something I’ve noticed many more cars are starting to do. It means they can have the rest of the light aimed higher without blinding anyone. That last part is debatable. Since automakers don’t have to comply with any aiming rules really. They simply have recommended guidelines. So you know many of them probably aim them a tad higher than they should be. The result is owners think they’re lights are just that tiny bit more amazing because they illuminate a bit further out In low beam mode. Still most are aimed well. I just notice that Nissan compared to most, aim their lights higher than anyone in the US Market.

Use a flashlight to shine on your rearview mirror (simulating headlights shinning on your rearview mirror) and the side mirrors will automatically dim. It's the same on 2017 GS.

8:30 that light is used in a lot of cars. And only turns on when your headlights are on. The entire purpose is so it's a subtle way to see your shifter at night. It wasn't designed to provide esthetics lol, cause if you did need extra light to see you'd just use your dome lights.

I think it wasn't so much a cheapout here as Lexus/Toyota's natural conservatism. I can almost picture the committee meeting debate between the ones who insisted they had to have the feature the Germans have, vs. the ones who insisted they would distract the driver. Typical Japanese compromise outcome: Include them but make them so dim you needn't have bothered.

There are some Toyota and Lexus hybrids from a long time ago still out there running but I would guess the life expectancy is definitely better with the non hybrid model - primarily because if possible hybrid battery degradation or eventual failure. Hi Nolan, looking hard at ES 300h right now, so this was a great night review. Greatly appreciate all your comments and information. I though the acceleration run you did up to 55 was pretty decent for a hybrid IMO - again this is not the sport package but I clocked you from 15mph to 55mph in 7 seconds flat so not bad for 44mpgs in a luxury car!! I'm curious how much worse the standard headlights are vs. the led adaptive lights seems kingd of steep $1500 charge for that options but not sure if it's worth it. Can you review a normal ES car (hybrid or not) with the standard lights too? - Thanks!

Since this is the AWD, it is safe to assume that it is the ES 250 as they offer AWD only on the 250. So this definitely doesn't have the 44MPG you mentioned. The hybdin one does (ES 300H). But I get your point. Personally I would recommend you to safe up the 1500€ since as you already know Lexus cars don't break up, don't need maintenance like many other cars and you can easily own one for 15-30 years or more if you do the basic maintenance required here and there so think of it this way. You are buying a new car, one of the newer models, you surely want to keep it for years and years right? In that case, the 1500€ is definitely worth saving as it will help you and be a great investment to you in the long run

Love the new ESes but as 2015 ES 350 owner, you can have all of that touchscreen cell phone device gadgetry they are putting in these cars today. I've been driving forty years and the only information a true driver will ever need about his vehicle is simply the oil change reminders, transmission fluid condition, tire pressure, battery life, coolant levels and bulb light has gone out indicators. All that other chit is absolute and unnecessary fluff to make bad drivers even worse.
