*correction* position 3 is just the added single coil isolated. Update: Sweetwater ended their $699 deal, guitar is back at list for $899. Still a hell of a guitar at that price!

This is a great review. Appreciate what you did with the Humbucker and Tribucker.
@BaritoneGoatStudio5 ай бұрын
@@ikestoddard2458 thanks. I feel like it is the initial draw to the guitar. But what it does isn’t apparent in alot of demos. Also the fact that it isn’t a humbucker anymore once you switch it into 3-coil mode. But I don’t think it really detracts from the intended tone they were going for!

It is one of my most diverse sounding guitars, but the added coil on the humbucker is fat and aggressive.

@@BaritoneGoatStudiothanks so much for your review. I just found a hellraiser c8 absolute beautiful but 25.5 (he is the older one)wont cut it for me. But then again they had their reasons i guess back on 2014. Have you tried that ms omen 7-8 from schecter? Is kinda in the park of sunset like lower than 1k and bites much more than it goes. Prog player here. I play a PRS 408 as it's bridge humbucker is wider than standard size humbuckers and the neck pickup is thinner. Both are on the hotter side. I think this guitar aims to get in the same sonic space as my 408. I also have an Apocalypse Solo II guitar and those are decent pickups. This leads me to believe that this is an excellent guitar in that price range. Nice find!

If you think a triple coil pickup is cool, wait until I put the selector in the middle position and turn my dual humbucker guitar into a quad coil

Ha! right? I have been thinking about the physics involved in having two separate humbuckers wired in series and split in the traditional sense (lower resistance) vs. how they have stacked three coils in series to create a humbucker that then adds resistance when the third coil is engaged? Is the reality that the humbucker here is actually a type of coil tap that selects the two coils out of the three? I might have to ask some folks who know more than me!
@ValdrVideo5 ай бұрын
@BaritoneGoatStudio it would be really interesting to learn more about the physics of that. I'll be honest, I've never really thought about how resistance would be affected by that, or what effect the change in resistance has on the sound.
@sam-cw8eo4 ай бұрын
@@BaritoneGoatStudioI haven’t looked into it but its probably in a wye configuration if I had to guess, which is a three way tap/split. I would guess you would want two of the coils to be opposite polarity of the third coil so you could analyze it as if the two coils of the same polarity are some equivalent inductance with joined outputs while the third coil is the other half. You would need double strength coils for the pair due to parallel elements having lower equivalent impedances. The idea here would be that you get ambient electrical noise cancellation typical of humbuckers while sounding like you have combined a highly wound humbucker+a single coil. I could be totally wrong I type this all while on the toilet

kramer same a similar thing in the late 90s very early 2k, the "qaud bucker" 4 coils in a humbucker space. essentially two mini rails. it was garbage.

Initially, I had dismissed this guitar because the tri-coil thing seemed gimmicky to me. The more I look at it, the more seriously I'm taking it. It sounds great with overdrive. Seems like it covers a lot of ground. And it's black, which is always good if you're a metalhead like me!
@BaritoneGoatStudio5 ай бұрын
@@finishin.my.coffee8780 same here. Kinda passed it up initially. But the more I came back to it, the more it seemed to be spec’ed out beyond its price point. Once I got it in hand, I was surprised how immediate I took to the feel. Once I messed with the sounds, I was hooked. The tri-coil thing is gimmicky when marketed like a super humbucker, but that isn’t really what it is. I tried to give a sense of what the thing really is and where it could be useful for certain tones.

I recently got a used Hellraiser Tempest, after owning an original diamond series Tempest. Killer guitar, and definitely a step up from some of the standard series. Original C-1s just never felt right in the hand to me, and the demon and omen series are not great in many ways I found. Bolt on necks with most Schecter guitars I played were pretty rough. This guitar and the recent PT baritone I got have both been fantastic.

Sounds like there's a lot of electrical interference. Do these pickups amplify it more than other high output pickups?
@BaritoneGoatStudio3 ай бұрын
@@danielfenmore2712 this guitar is actually mostly single coil tones, and the triple coil isn’t hum cancelling due to the extra coil and polarity mismatch. It will pickup more EMI and naturally let through more 60cycle noise. The hybrid Alnico V with flanking Ceramic 8 magnets on the humbucker does create a very powerful magnetic field and does seem to be more susceptible to interference from lighting, computers, and any exposed circuits.

I think it’s a good counter balance to giving hacks cash grab signature models….heres to hoping some of that cash grab allows then to fund an unorthodox/creativity inducing guitar like this….
@BaritoneGoatStudio5 ай бұрын
You raise a good point about how their signature guitars have such hefty price tags when a guitar like this carries many of the same features that matter, just in a stripped-down look. I would even argue that many of the signature guitars aren't that much more interesting. I hope they continue to make triad series guitars and offer some updated aesthetics, but I am sure a new color will command an additional $500 somehow! 🤷♂️

@@alanagottalottasay997 thanks. I think people were expecting something massive and aggressive for high gain chug stuff… and it can add a little bottom end to that, but to me it makes more sense as a way to fatten up individual notes. I also use the third coil to get more break up on a clean setting, but the standard humbucker is a chuggy and punchy pickup by itself. But the guitar definitely sparks conversation when people see it in person.
