Great vid! Our dept. used to pack the flat load on the transverse and someone would always pull the whole stack out and we'd end up with the "spaghetti pile" beside the pump panel. The triple layer makes sense for vehicle fires as we generally stop the pumper at least 50 feet short of the car; this load allows us to get right up to the scene and charge the line, which has been "pre-flaked". Also great to stretch to the front door and it's flaked ready to enter!

Same load that my department uses. When loading it though, we take that last loop and put it through the bail, as to make it easier to pull the loop and the nozzle. However, it really depends on whether your using inch, inch and three quarters, two inch, etc.

That lay deploys nice. I'd rather use a 100ft 1 3/4 front bumper hose for a vehicle fire on the expressway. This way nobody has to walk behind the truck into oncoming traffic.

Folding it Alaskan pipeline style is significantly faster and deploys exactly the same. That method forever changed how I fold the baker load as we call it in Tennessee.

Here in the UK we have a hose reel, same principle as a quick attack hose but a hose reel is a lot more easier to deploy and put back, it is essentially a garden hose only roughly 500 times more powerful and is a lot longer (around 100 to 150 Meters long) there is always water Inside the hose so even if you haven't ran it all out you can still use it, it hasn't got as much punch as the main jet as its built for only 1 man whereas the main jet is built for 2-3 men but its perfect for quick attacks and as we have 2 of these on each appliance it only takes 2 minutes to hook them together to make a 300 Meter long hose

GPM's puts out fire, not pressure. "500 times more powerful"... uh, no. Just NO.

All available hose should be stretched toward the nozzle before the line is charged... You can get quick water but the line will be slow to advance.

... Driver side. Wouldn't this load make it a little more difficult if the situation called for you to deploy hose off the captain side?

Chris, we also have two versions of a firefighter Mayday video (from a communications standpoint) on the youtube channel AtticChat1. One shows inside the dispatch center, the other shows on the scene (same incident).

So many have gone to minute man which I do like. But don’t underestimate the ease of the Triple. Just make sure your back man pulls a coupling to the front door so u have 50’

Not if you leave the top fold sticking out a few inches on the officer's side. You'd just have the top fold to extend once all the hose is out of the bed.

How do you deploy this load for the upper floors of an apartment or townhouse?
@edloeffler9769
@edloeffler9769 3 жыл бұрын
I tried to count the number of lengths of 1 3/4 hose you use in your preconnect. Also, do you pack half on the front side and then go to the back of that individual bed? I believe this only enables you to come off one side of the engine? The other bed would be set for the other side I assume?
@homeFall1
@homeFall1 2 жыл бұрын
The way we bed ours after the first two passes we swap over from one side to the other every layer in the middle of the bed. Your mileage may vary depending on bed width and if you run a pony section or not.

So, it looks like it can only be deployed with 2 guys for confined space. I am trying to imagine how to deploy this at a structure fire with short lawn. Looks like this load must be fully pulled to one side or another before you can charge it.

Side won't matter. 1 crosslay (red) is loaded for drivers side deployment, the other crosslay (yellow) is loaded for officers side deployment.

My dept started loading this fucking lay.. but we got 150 and 250 ft.. and they somebody mixed colors. They better not bitch at the operator if he sees yellow on the red side and opens up the yellow valve🤦‍♂️. I hate it. You shouldnt need a training to deploy a god damn hose. Especially at a 50 calls a year volunteer deparnment that makes a 2-3hrs a week training.. and dosent train in the summer. Buddy who missed training and grabs the nozzle only and starts yanking. Tangling the hose with a trapped victim. Just because hose lays werent kept simple.
@ffjsb
@ffjsb 11 жыл бұрын
A straight lay might be better for YOUR dept., but it is in no way faster or simpler than a triple lay. And it is just fine for any amount of firefighting. (which has NOTHING to do with a hose lay anyway) The hose load you use should suit the type of buildings, setbacks, and tactics you use. But no load is easier or faster to deploy than a triple load. It's almost fireman proof, you really have to try to screw it up.

phil lamonica what fire department pays their firemen $300,000 a year? Maybe you are confused because 30-40k a year is about average starting pay and it is rare that a chief officers pay ever exceeds 6 figures. Unless you work within a community that has a very high cost of living.

Bad lay... Strait lay is more effective and simple but not as nice looking as the triple.. Nice if you don't fight a lot of fire and are concerned about the aesthetics but not good for our departments application.. Nicely composed video though
