It's amazing how I can watch videos by Rener, think it's gone through one ear and out the other, and then a couple weeks down the line I'll be on the mat and some little detail of one of his technique will just pop into my head. I think that's his genius; everything is broken down in such a way that each piece flows into the other, so that remembering one opens the other up.

wow. I love reners instructionals. an excellent teacher. and the fact he distinguishes btwn sport bjj and self defense bjj is an added bonus. his street adapted bjj is closer to what the core of bjj originally was. much like how judo was created from juijitsu to make it safer for practitioners, sport bjj is a watered down version of the lethal bjj system. I wish I could learn directly from rener but alas, canada is a bit too far.

Last month one guy read one comment of mine and start writing to me. Well he practice K Maga and he went on and on how more effective was,BJJ had no use in a real street fight. Well try to explain to him, there is BJJ competitions and what it counts is the ground game and by winning you get a higher level belt. Told him in a gym we learn not just the sport side,his point was in a real fight KM would beat any BJJ person in seconds. Today i am a 59 old man and still remember Master Hélio saying,what you are learning here is to be used as the very last possibility . I am teaching athletes not fighters,is for the weaker not run for the bull,and told him we also learn to fight. We are able to finish anybody in a matter of seconds without causing any real harm to the other if we choose not to . Is hard to explain people BJJ has two sides,competition and fights. Told him we can finish any fight in less than 20 seconds,I did twice in live,one had no way out was surfing in Malibu and a local for no reason told me to get out and with the fin of his board hit my and went across. Was just 21 years old ,had arrived in L A two months before and zero English,but a brown belt. The guy was bigger older,guess was my board and trunks made him mad.Not my look.since i don't look like most brazilians,the guy kept screaming at me to paddle out,when i saw my broken board,my reaction was to throw my board at him,which i did. Got on top and start paddling out and he went after me. The good thing is i was not alone,we were around 7 guys three surfers and the others friends , two were Americans,just my good friend knew BJJ. It was 1982 BJJ was just J J ,nobody in the US knew or heard about it. Anyway thought with myself,,,shit i going to have a fight with this big and local. His size didn't matter,was thinking how many locals are going to beat the shit out of us. Once at the shore throw my board aside watching the guy coming,behind him 8 or 9 guys.Look around saw my friends coming,we were almost even , standing up i realize how bigger the guy was ...about 6.3 at least 25 Kg more than me. I am 6.1 was skinny but in good form,play soccer and tennis everyday. Told my friend ,tell him and his friends will be a fair fight, just me with him,since had plenty of space and he was ready,not any piece of shirt just skin. Have to say was scare,i was having the first real fight in my life,that was when it heat me. I was able to think,made a plane on what i had to do,mark keep a distance 3 yards case he can punch you will be over and sure he'll punch you even more. Knew that i had to take him down,kept kicking his legs, when i saw an opening , embraced his waist head down below my arms almost on his back. Forced him to move back ,got my leg inside and down he went . Got my arms around his neck,when he try to get away he turn his back which i let and wanted.Once was on top over his back and his neck well tied we went to sleep. Got up and start walking away,what a nightmare when I heard ,,,hey you m fkr where do you think you're going. You know people usually don't remember what just went on. He start running towards me,but his head wasn't working in full motion. Had he rest a bit longer would be another fight,he run like a drunk person so was easy to put him down,once on top i thought not a choke again,went for an arm lock to make sure he was conscious until he ask me to stop. Which he did,the best was after. He came to me all gentle asking what was that. In the end I was welcome to surf among them. Malibu has three brakes,the further one are locals only,as my english got better I became a local. Taught them a little whenever had a change,but like my Master only if you guys don't bully the others. Sure if someone snake your wave,just tell not do it again....Lol

@@markriobr that was an interesting story. We do the exact same move in my ju jitsu class so I'm glad it works. I've been having a big argument with a guy on here who says jj is no good in a street fight. Shame he hasn't seen your comment.
@markriobr6 жыл бұрын
@@amandah5478 Yes Amanda some people have no idea,what kind of street fight is he talking about?BJJ will always get the best on an one x one. Most fights guys always go to the ground,you can also play deceptive which for a woman is really good.Talking about street fight,cross both arms above you chest saying no fight.Don't think,just throw not a punch,with the inside of your wrist down up the chin or the nose,can be superman he'll put both hands where you just hit him,knee down up on his balls,arm around his neck and hit him again with your knees ,,,fight is over.LoL. Let's say you're in a bar,kind of tide do the same arms around the waist pushing until he hits the wall.down he goes,you'll be on top full guard mounted,elbows,punch whatever you want.is a full on fight. People think we don't learn that sort of thing,how stupid they can be? BJJ is like Yoga good self esteem and spirit,the true essence of the soft art. Wish you good vibes and enjoy . Take care
