When I was in the Philippines in late 60's I bought a fork and spoon wall decoration set, (8" wide x 4' tall) made out of Monkey Pod wood. They've been decorations on my back patio pretty much for the duration of their life here in So Cal. They have a weathered super dry look to them, they've lost their luster, but still have a nostalgic look to them after all these years.

Monkey pod is a pretty easy wood to work with. It's sourced commonly in South America as well as South East Asia. It has excellent rot resistance and it work well (and is commonly used for doing cutting boards) as well as tables. I used to import 40 foot containers full of this stuff. Only downside to milling the wood is that the wood pulls clays / silica from the soil (kind of like cedar) and it will wreak havock on your bandsaw blade relatively quickly. Don't even bother with carbide for the bandsaw, just use standard Lenox blades. The wood it self when being sanded has a scent of white pepper. It's nice to work with in the sense that I have allergies to almost every wood out there but this one never really impacted me. Judging by the grain color in this slab it came from a low elevation area / wetland. If you pull them from higher elevations / dryer areas with more clay in the soil you will get much darker and dramatic streaks in them. I have a few of these slaps still sitting in my shop. One of them is about 80" wide x 10' tall. I don't even know how wide it is actually because the sap wood has been cut off. One solid slab, pretty insane. Nice work!

It is a hardwood tree native to Southeast Asia and South and Central America. Many countries have elected to plant it on the sides of roads and in parks as an aesthetically pleasing way to provide shade due to it's large canopy. It is a fast growing species, and can reach maturity in 20 years or so. Common Name(s): Monkeypod, Monkey Pod, Raintree, Suar, Mimosa. Scientific Name: Albizia saman (syn. Samanea saman, Pithecellobium saman) It can be found in Southern Florida.

Considering how popular both pellet stoves and grills have become I'm wondering if you have considered using your waste sawdust along with your waste wood to make them for sale. There are machines available that do just that. I believe you would recover your investment in relatively short order assuming you developed and implemented an effective marketing plan

@maplebones

There is no money to be made from the raw material for pellets. There are semi trailers full of chips that don't make enough to pay for the fuel to deliver them. South American exotic hardwoods to red cedar to oak to pine to black walnut and more.... my favorite wood to clear finish after proper prep was juniper. from vanilla to deep maroon and everything in between. i did numerous staircases and handrail systems using juniper and it is beautiful with a lacquer finish. or as lamps and small tables with an oil rubbed finish...
