I just ship it because it seems like quite a functional relationship, Todoroki and Deku respect each other, they know each others strengths and weaknesses. Todoroki in general seems like a very reliable husband in general, but he can also a bit when he wants something, this is perfectly balanced by Deku's enthusiastic nature and concern for the people around him. This make them a very well functioning team and if you take into consideration that being a hero is a very busy job, I could imagine them living together and even building a very caring relationship.

Ochako reminds me of Izuku's mother. (They have EXTREMELY similar quirks too...) It makes me think of how Harry ended up with Ginny, because J.K. Rowling saw how their relationship would be similar to Lily and James'... There's nothing wrong with that, of course - they'd be cute together - but the problem is, it feels too "easy". Too simple and too cliché. Until the story ACTUALLY gives them some chemistry (which I believe can only be SHOWN via conversations and a deeper understanding of one another. [So far, these two just have crushes on one another because they're friends...]) their relationship will remain kinda stale. There's nothing to it. Especially not enough for fanfic writers and artists to draw inspiration from, which is where a lot of fans will discover the pairing. In comparison, the TodoDeku ship has a LOT of "chemistry" and inspiration to derive from. It's not cliché in any way, and that intrigues people. (Most will avoid cliché ideas like the plague, purely because it's taboo to enjoy it.) Now, I'm neither a TodoDeku fan or an Ochako x Izuku fan. (Too tame for me. I lean towards antagonist/protagonist relationships... XD) But from an outsider's perspective, while they are about equal in my mind, TodoDeku shows more promise and more potential. There feels like there is more to be done with their relationship. (And none of it has to do with the fact that they are both male, but rather, who they are as people and how they relate to one another within the context of the overall story.) Meanwhile, with Ochako and Izuku... A relationship between them is nothing new. I've seen it before, and I will see it again. We live in a day and age where the guy always gets the girl, and 90% of the time, that girl is the lead - the best friend, the one to admire from afar, and the first one to show genuine care for the main character. I know where their relationship will go, and it hasn't even started yet. It's your typical romantic subplot, and I remember feeling kind of let down when I realized that the author was for sure heading in that direction. Now, we get to deal with the confession subplot, where the girl wants to say how she feels but is too nervous. Everyone else realizes what's going on, except for the lead, who's oblivious. Something intense is gonna happen, and she'll finally confess. They'll start dating, and that will be it really... She'll serve no other purpose, other than being the romantic interest. Their relationship will become background noise to all the chaos, and it will only remind us that they're together every now and then, while the real story continues on. She may even be used as a damsel in distress, and we all just LOVE those subplots, don't we... But then, a lot of this could also be said for the TodoDeku pairing. Just as easily, TodoDeku could fall into the same cliché routine if not treated correctly. This is all speculation of course, and I REALLY hope that, whichever romantic interest is chosen, they will be treated properly and given an actual point to existing, other than to be Deku's significant other. A relationship is a partnership, and that needs to be driven home, if they're going to make me believe in it. Whoever is chosen, needs to have nearly as much, if not AS much, screen time and importance to the story as Izuku himself. (As a partner to help him with his problems, physically and emotionally. They have to have each other's back through thick and thin, more so than the rest of the characters, for the rest of the story.) I honestly believe that Ochako/Izuku will be canon (and I'm fine with that) but if they don't treat it well, I'm going to wish she never existed. Speaking purely from a storyteller's point of view, Tsuyu actually seems like the better bet, all things considered... (Though, personally, I don't care for that pairing either...) But either way, we'll get whatever it is the creator wants. He's done well so far, creating an unconventional lead who actually has to work for his powers, and suffer for it, and creating characters that, albeit slowly, are being shown in a way that makes you learn about them individually as characters, and makes you care about what they add to the "team" as a whole. That's saying something for the amount of characters that are actually in this story! So, odds are good that the romantic subplot will be treated well, but I'm holding my breath. I'll breathe in relief if they choose Todoroki (which I know they won't, but still) purely because choosing him IS out of the norm, in and of itself, and breaks cliché tradition. And I will be perfectly satiated if a relationship with Ochako is treated well, and she actually contributes to the story, other than just being the "trophy" girlfriend. ((Side-note:I personally prefer Bakugou/Deku so far, purely because Bakugou is an a**, and I love myself a bit of angst and drama, and a relationship where people have to actually talk out their feelings before a relationship can work... XD There's no way it's gonna happen, but I love it so much. They will however - and this is my prediction - have the greatest friendship/rivalry when they are older, along with Todoroki. It's not a romantic relationship, but it will be amazing either way.! XD))

I don't agree with the people who calls this yaoi. Yaoi would be over sexualizing the characters. There are some people who see it that way so that's fine. But it doesn't mean a gay relationship can't be as sweet and pure as any other straight pairings. A lot of the ttdk shippers portray them to be a very lovely and domestic couple.

Nicole Leyi I'd call it shonen-ai. They are both fifteen and not Mineta-type of boy at all, so it makes sense that they would be kind of innocent when it came to their relationship. You just have to look at how Deku interacts with Uraraka (or any other girl, but especially her, since it's obvious those two like each other), or imagine how Shouto "I didn't even know how to talk to people before Midoriya" Todoroki would react when he found out he liked someone, to know how pure they'd be as boyfriends. Also, it would be a very healthy relationship, based on friendship and trust in the first place, no hard feelings prior, which makes it radically different from BakuDeku, for example. So rather than sexual tension or infatuation, which is the drive a lot of gay ships have, what could make them come together would be simple affection towards a person you are close to. And that's why it's not yaoi. Most of the time, in yaoi sex comes first.

I'd like to add, I don't ship Bakugo and Deku because of the beginning of the story we learn Bakugo's been basically bullying Deku most of his childhood. Hopefully Bakugo eventually learns to control his temper better in the future. I totally agree with you. All Might said himself that there were too many hard feelings between those two to even be able to have a proper conversation. They can't talk. There's no communication besides yelling at each other. Not the best beginning for a romantic relationship, is it? No, it would be toxic, very toxic. Their relationship before getting into UA was, actually. Midoriya was Bakugou's punchbag; we don't know exactly, but I get the vibe that Bakugou kept Deku around, halfway inside and outside his social circle, only to have someone inferior to lord his power over. Midoriya was bullied for at least ten years, to the point that he was told to _kill himself_ (and I don't hate Bakugou; he's one of my favourite characters, in fact, but... damn, that's inexcusable). From Deku's part, he kept calling Bakugou "Kacchan", even though his other childhood friends called him "Katsuki" or "Bakugou", and that's the saddest thing. He clung to that nickname, from a time when Bakugou was still his friend, and most probably tried to save some hope from the fact that Katsuki didn't tell him to stop calling him that (which is, likely, because he doesn't give a flying fuck). That's common behaviour in abuse victims, a way of coping and convincing one-self that there's some good in the abuser (which, in this case, there is, but not the point). Even though he never stopped admiring him, Izuku started to harbour some bitternes towards Bakugou that kept getting bigger and bigger, and it had to explode at some point (mixed feelings, someone would call them). Since he obtained One For All and got into the UA, Deku has gotten more confident, and the resentment he held towards Bakugou has started to spill (in Midoriya's polite, "wouldn't harm a fly", way). Katsuki, on the other hand, feels offended, has his pride hurt, because someone that never was much more than an extra, a background character in the film of his life, is suddenly in the middle of his way to become the top hero and is proving to be a competent rival. Since the beginning of the anime/manga, their relationship has been all about Katsuki getting more negative feelings about Midoriya (now that he does give a shit about him) and Izuku releasing most of the bad emotions held inside him for so many years. I can see why they aren't friends and why it would be very difficult to become so. So a romantic relationship? Really long way ahead for it to be even possible, and it most probably wouldn't work out in the end. They aren't what each other needs, I think.

i've only watched the anime, have not read the manga. i didn't ship anyone during the first season, let alone todoroki and midoriya. but after what happened between those two in the sports festival arc, hell yes. i ship tododeku because, even though it could just lead to a friendship and nothing more, in my opinion, the selfless gesture midoriya made for todoroki without regards to anything else definitely has the potential to be a starting point for something more than a friendship, whether it happens in canon or not. todoroki was so adamant up until that fight that he would not use his left side. he was aloof and distant and set in his ways about it. nothing fazed him. but deku changed him so much!!!! he had such an effect!!!! he really shook him up. not even just in their fight but deku screaming from the sidelines in the todoroki/bakugo fight as well. it was not just a casual "you can do it!!", midoriya was screaming with real passion. and the reaction on todoroki's face was not just a power up from the encouragement or anything, it was heart clenching and deeply emotional >_< after it, todoroki has so much respect for midoriya as a person... he went from "we're not here to play at being friends" to "my friend might be in trouble" and dropping everything and running to midoriya's side when he sent the co-ordinates. todoroki is not alone anymore. yes it can go in the direction of just a friendship but i think from this kind of effect one person has on another it could totally lead to stronger feelings than that as well. as a pair, I see it more as todoroki catches feelings first and stronger, whether or not it's acted on. midoriya is the first person who had such an effect on him and he doesn't want to let that kind of person go. then midoriya realises feelings over time. he sees the effect his actions had on todoroki and is inspired. he also realises the effect todoroki has on him in return now that they are closer, being the rock and the voice of reason. they are both always there to be counted on. now that they have each other they don't want to live without each other type of thing c': extra note: i just love the scene so much when they are fighting hero killer together as well Q v Q deku up close with his explosive power and speed and then todoroki backing him up from further away with the big AOE. totally trust each other. todoroki yells out here too and fights more like midoriya. comparing it to how he fought at USJ is totally different. extra note 2: after all i wrote though - what midoriya is to todoroki, uraraka is to midoriya in a less intense way :P a light that brightens up their dark patches.

Why I ship todoroki x deku: 1) the bonding moment you explained in the sports festival 2) it's a cool concept (no pun intended). Think about it. One is essentially an apprentice of a hero that is rivals with the other's dad. Really neat parallel I think. Plus them becoming a couple could either create some interesting drama or it convinces all might and endevor (or however you spell it) to get along better. Overall a really good story telling opportunity. 3) We don't know that the two are straight (in the anime at least, please no spoilers). And even if they were, teenage sexuality is so fluid, it could potentially still happen even if it's just an experiment. Also, I personally want to see same sex representation in anime outside of bl romances or yaoi. I'm sick of same sex couples (especially in anime) being treated as taboo or a joke. I honestly just want same sex couples to be treated like any other ones in media. 4) I'm curious as to how todoroki would be like if he was in a relationship with someone. Would he be protective? Would he be a listener? I'm curious about that part of his character. 5) Overall it's a lot of fun to ship the two.

Tododeku is one of my favorite ships in this series but if i'm being honest I don't want it to happen. I don't want any of them to happen. Its kind of like Attack on titan or Voltron. If you put a pairing together in canon it throws off the whole balance of the show. But if you keep everything like normal with hints of shipping then you get the best of both worlds.

I keep fan works and canon separate. The same thing with shipping; I keep shipping, regardless of how "canonically possible" the pairings are, separate from canon. Because while it is satisfying to have a pairing I ship become canon, the status of a pairing does not (and should not) dictate my enjoyment of the work itself. I like good stories and characters first, ships second. What I don't see as necessary is the need to insult other people for shipping a pairing you don't like or for not shipping what you ship. Shippers and fans are first and foremost just people. There are no rules to shipping but the most important rule (in life): treat others well like any decent human being.

Wait what? I shipped Korrasami back when it wasn't even a thing. Car driving episode was my "they would be good together" moment. Later i realised it was actually happening during the last season though. When it did i was super happy. Kaaki, it would certainly be better done since they know the full story and Korra didn't. Korra had alot of fumbling and work to do in general when it came to it, so they really didn't have enough time to do it right and get the rest of the show done. Considering it all they actually did a real good job of it. I mean it's hard to break ground after all. Until the last season when they met up again who really believed they would go through with it? I didn't, just like i don't believe My hero will do anything of the sort. I do however have enough hope and respect for the show to think that they actually could or might if it's what they intended. They already did some stuff in the manga which you wouldn't find in most shounen or would be played off as a joke.

I'm gonna explain my point of view on the ship, which is probably going to be very similar to yours considering I'm just a generic TodoDeku shipper. Shouto Todoroki is the son of the #2 hero, who has a fire quirk, and a woman who has an ice quirk. He is the youngest of 4 children, only because of the fact that he was the only 'successful' one in Endeavor's eyes and thus, he needed no more children. He wanted a child who had a mixture of his and his 'wife's' quirks, which is what Shouto got. Hot and Cold. A mix of cryokenesis and pyrokenesis. Izuku Midoriya is a (originally) quirkless child who has a hard working mom and a father who isn't even really anybody in his life due to his overseas job to support his family, and the fact that as far as we know, he never really called the family. Izuku, despite not having any sort of powers, wanted to be like All Might. To put on a smile in the face of danger to help people see that it will be alright. Their stories are definitely different, but there are some matches you can make to them. First off, Izuku wants to be like All Might. Shouto is being _forced_ to be like Endeavor. Shouto was born with it all, and barely really had to work for it, while Izuku was born with nothing and had to work harder than literally anybody else, breaking multiple bones in the process unfortunately. Shouto is cold and only wants to be the best to spite his father, since he's not using his fire (from his dad's side) and is only using his ice (from his mom's side). Izuku is taking All Mights power and slowly making it his own, trying his best to open up and help everyone, having little to no regard for his own well being. *Shouto is the #2 heroes successor. Izuku is the #1 heroes successor.* Why is this important, you ask? Well, lets look at some of the scenes from the manga/anime, one of Izuku and Shouto's first interactions. Shouto pulled Izuku into an empty hallway (well, he thought it was empty.. Bakuhoe was there to ruin it :/) and told Izuku of his back story- THAT started to get people to ship them instantly. Shouto explained that he was the result of a quirk marriage and was only a tool in his father eyes, considered a 'masterpiece' and not even a real fucking person. He claimed war on Izuku, hoping to assume first place in the sports festival without his fathers flames. Izuku had been quiet at first, but then told Todoroki to not hold back. Skip a bit later, and Izuku absolutely _fucking tells off_ Endeavor. Making him look like a dumbass. You know, the usual shit this fucking god gets up to. Anyways, Todoroki goes on to compete throughout the entire festival, only using his fire once. And even that was an accident. Now comes the big moment: *_Izuku Midoriya versus Shouto Todoroki. The man born with it all and the man fighting for a chance._* Todoroki kept sending pillars upon pillars and spikes upon spikes of Ice to Izuku, who in turn had shot the ice right back at him using One for All, breaking multiple fingers (and soon enough his whole arm) in the process. Izuku said some things that sent flashbacks to Shouto, also ranting about how Shouto is getting by using only half his power while everyone else is working their absolute fucking asses off, and then comes the big sentence. The thing that set everyone off. The thing that confirmed Izuku's chance at basically becoming Todoroki's _hero._ *_"IT'S YOUR POWER, ISN'T IT!?"_* Now, this doesn't seem like much at first, but if you remember, Shouto mentions multiple times that he considers his fire to be his 'fathers power', and how he didn't want to win using his 'fathers power'. Izuku's words set off something in Shouto, and he remembered how his mother had told him to not be held back by the shackles that his bastard father had set upon him. This is the moment that most people, including me, say that Izuku _'melted Shouto's heart'_ . Shouto uses his fire, and Izuku smiles. Shouto points this out and calls him insane, and he ultimately wins the match. Now, what does any of this have to do with why *_I_* ship it? Well.. Everything, actually. This is how they met, this is how Izuku risked himself and even gained a couple of scars, just to help this kid who launched _fucking war on him._ Now if that ain't romantic as all fucking hell then I don't know _what_ is. Not only that, but you can even see how Shouto remembers what Izuku had done for him!!! He helps out Iida during he Stain arc, trying to be like Izuku and tell Iida to be the hero he wants to be!!! Then during the training camp arc, he says to Izuku that actions speak louder than any word could, WHICH IS REFERENCING HOW IZUKU HELPED HIM WITH BOTH STRONG WORDS AND STRONGER ACTIONS!!! AND SHOUTO IS JUST ALWAYS SO CARING, ESPECIALLY TO IZUKU!!! *_All in all, in a way, TodoDeku is already canon. Because Izuku already had such a large impact on Shouto's life that its not even funny. Izuku is Shouto's hero, and nothing could ever change that._*

God seeing so many salty people in the comments is giving me a sodium overdose, but I won't go into arguing because then I'll never shut up. I love Tododeku in any and every sense, romantic, platonic, anything. I just feel there's so much mutual respect and admiration between them, they are literally perfect together. But, despite that they aren't my top ship from this series, that would have to be Katsudeku. I've considered myself a fan of "Tododeku" in some sense. The sports festival arc gave me good insight into both characters, and like what was said in the video, I was blown away by the emotional intensity of the situation. I've just wanted more of that! Todoroki and Midoriya's interaction is just something I enjoy seeing, and some of my favourite moments from the show and manga so far are when they are working towards something. That's honestly all I want, is more of these two characters growing stronger together and to see how it will all culminate in whatever final product we receive. In fact, at this point in the game I don't really want a romance from Hero Academia. It would seem too forced right now, regardless of the ship. Maybe there are some others like me, who don't really care what "ship" becomes canon in the end, but are just looking for a character relationship (platonic, romantic, don't care!) that they just have a blast with whenever it is present! I'm very much excited to see more from these two. Honestly, it's frustrating to see people dismiss something based on a strong bias on either side (although some comments and biases are clearly harsher than others.) Try to enjoy what we get from the creator instead, and relax a bit on what people do in their spare time (especially something as specific and small as shipping.) As for me, I think I've mostly said my piece. It's a bit of a longer rant, but after scrolling through these comments, I thought I'd throw my own thoughts out there and see if they resonate with anyone else.

Edit: Also I wanted to add you expressed very well most of the reasons why I ship Tododeku (it's my OTP in this fandom). What I like the most is that is very healthy for both the characters. Izuku was one of my favorites from the start and to Todoroki I slowly got attached throughout season two. As you said, Izuku is Todoroki's hero, but in some ways Todoroki is also Izuku's. He came to help him with the Stain incident, and throughout the manga, Todoroki and Izuku developed a very good friendship that helps both and he also offered Izuku advice when he needed. I like the ideea of those two supporting eachother and helping eachother to move on from their problems and cruel parts of their lifes. I know they won't be together, MHA it's not my first shonen, so I know how things will end up, and i also like Izuocha, but I just prefer Tododeku.

I didn't start shipping tododeku till season two after there fight. Once they started to become friends I saw some chemistry and honestly I know that it'll probably never happen but it makes me happy so I'm gonna ship it! Also I think that todoroki is one of those characters that has potential to be gay. Hear me out. He's never really seen showing smiles to anyone other then deku let alone a girl. Spoilers** when they're moved into the dorms we see everyone having the 'showing off there rooms.' It would be interesting to see a change. A straight couple in an anime like Boku no Hero Academia is a normal thing. But if there were a gay ship or just one of the main characters being gay it would really break the stereotypes! And I really like that idea. Never question a shipper why they ship 2 characters together. However, I would think that you are wrong that some shippers would think of this ship being canon, most of us shippers would hardly care if the ship was real or not, ...we just have wonderful imaginations. Another fact is that there are significantly more female shippers compared to male shippers which may have a correlation with the amount of m/m fics. I'm a fan of Bakugou x Kirishima personally. They're obviously best friends, especially later on in the manga, and spend far more time together then they spend with anyone else. (Their friendship is relevant since, as long you have compatible sexualities and life styles, dating your best friend is generally an excellent idea. You've already proved you get along well after all!) Plus there are some rather emotion heavy moments, rather like what Tripl-L mentions in the video, regarding a certain kidnapping incident and its aftermath. (Tododeku and Bakushima are both "sunshine boy saves grumpy boy" ships at this moment in time. It's sweet.)

I think you undercut the influence of the Stair Arc a little. Absolutely the Sports Festival Arc is what started me thinking "Okay, these two would make a sweet couple." but the fact that Shouto up and left his father instantly to respond to Izuku's vague location text definitely helped cement its place in my heart. He could have shrugged it off or only gotten someone else to go see what was happening, but no. He had to go personally and make sure everything was okay. That means a lot. (I did read the manga first though, so perhaps the Stain Arc wouldn't have influenced my ship preference as much if I had to wait weeks and weeks to see it. As is it does feel super important to the ship from my perspective.)

I love tododeku! However, i very much disagree with your opinion. If we were talking about two real life people, then I'd agree with the points you made, but this is an anime/manga. An anime that's primary goal is to _sell_ and to sell specifically to teenage boys. (of course, not only teenage boys watch the anime, but that's mostly the intended demograph) There's a reason most animes for boys don't even include a complex romance arc. There's a reason why most "boy" animes either end with the main character single or with the main female character. Bnha is a "boy" anime. It can be watched and enjoyed by anyone, but who the characters end up with will most likely cater to an average *straight* teen boy watching. And as much as i like to think that if todoroki and midoriya were real they'd probably have feelings for each other, homophobia is still prevelant and it is much easier and much more profitable to just make Izuku end up with Ururaka or something. (Don't let that discourage you or anyone though! I always hated that idea that the primary reason to ship something has to be because you think they'll end up together.)

Considering I ship based on chemistry, not sex, hell yeah I'd still ship them if either Izuku or Shouto were girls. I enjoy imagining romantic relationships between likeable characters that have chemistry together, and promote character growth in one another. My preferred Ochako ship was actually Bakugou and Ochako because of how their interactions have caused them both to grow as characters. It's just unfortunate for Ochako that Bakugou and Kirishima had ever more character growth together (and chemistry) in the future so now I don't really have an Ochako ship at all. I'm level headed in saying I won't be like those people who fight others including the author... to make it canon. It's a shonen anime so I know IzuOcha is the most likely ship to become canon and you cannot deny the adorkable chemistry between the two. I mean I low-key ship Tododeku whether it's a pure platonic broship/bromance of "brothers in arms" type of deal or a real romance. The two characters just work well together especially now that they are basically close friends and he has been converted into the "Deku squad". Slight tangent, but because some people still deny that he is part of the "Deku squad", I'd like to say that the anime so far had scenes whether it be small or not of Tsuya, Ochako, Ida, Midoriya, and now Todoroki eating lunch at the same table, the fact that the whole "Deku squad" was present for Tsuya's apology at the dorms, not to mention this video says more interactions are in store for Deku and Shoto in the manga, etc. Okay tangent done: So... I think the ship itself works too because of their closeness and mutual trust in each other. Izuku was the catalyst in making Todoroki change, use his fire quirk, visit his mother, and ultimately accept the Hero profession aspect of his father with the internship. Todoroki was also the only one to show up as backup against Stain and not to mention understand Midoriya's cryptic location message. Todoroki is also the first person Midoriya goes to for advice in the training camp arc when he worries about Kota. Back to the UA sports festival arc, if one of the two competitors were a girl I know that people would have tried to "canon ship" them even harder because whether you are a girl or guy, breaking down someone's walls and allowing them to let go of their demons and move forward is kind of a common trope in romance. Izuku really did save Todoroki and turned his world upside down. If Izuku hadn't done anything, I believe Todoroki may have unfortunately and eventually become the thing he hates. After all the resentment for Endeavor he held on to made him a bit standoffish, arrogant, and cold at first, whereas after his fight with Midoriya, he accepted himself, he gradually mellowed out, and allowed himself to be more social and kind (albeit sometimes awkwardly and still reserved) with other people. All in all Izuku may have the "meddlesome" aspect of a true hero, but he also has the ability to break down people with words AND actions and meet other characters at their most vulnerable in order to lift them up for their betterment. Edit: Btw did a google trends recently and I think Tododeku is still the most popular ship with Bakudeku and Kiribaku fighting each other on the graph. I mean I understand Kiribaku ship too. Dudes are total bros and Bakugo's first real friend at UA. Kirishima basically also got rid of Bakugo's tendency at the beginning to hang out with his bullying "minions". I'm just surpised a "yaoi" ship especially in a mainstream show is the most popular compared to the actual most likely canon ship of IzuOcha

I personally think the funniest thing about these two is how you first probably overlooked Todoroki until that one moment where he froze that house over to win in the first season and then you start to notice him in every picture because he is straight up catching the eye with this two toned hair. Now it costs half a seaon to really see him fighting again (without having interest in anyone at all). After that comes the Sports Festival where he promises to beat Midoriya and then he tells him why exactly a few episodes later. Then they fight where Todoroki has to admit that it's indeed HIS not his fathers power he can use and he actually does use it after that. So now: If you always take notice of Todoroki after the Sports Festival Events (EVEN IN THE MANGA) you WILL notice one thing - His eyes are ALWAYS following one person - Midoriya that is! That's why I like this ship - It keeps track on the thing it started if you WANT to notice :)

Very cool video but there is a section you brushed on but maybe didn't get a full picture on. A lot of shippers of hopeless gay ships (trust me we are almost all aware even if we hope against hope that maybe something will change that they're not going to get together) hold these ships as a way to find representation in a media that really doesn't have any. In reality, looking at these characters and the way their arcs play out, without the heteronormative lens, it should be a genuine possibility even if the writers choose against it (I mean imagine if Shouto was female it would be favourite to be canon almost). Very very few of us actually believe this ship is gonna sail, we ship it almost as a silent hope that one day there might be a show where something like this actually gets considered (Yuri on Ice was a goddamn blessing). It's more about finding queer characters and queer storylines to actually identify with than just purely for fun or for the writing possibilities which is horribly depressing coz well it isn't going to happen because still at best you get maybe a camp or if the stars align an actual gay/bi/pan (dare I hope) character in anything from this area of the entertainment industry. As a queer teen it's hugely disheartening to be so subtly subconsciously invalidated and alienated and even more so when people don't recognise its impact and brush it off as the community being 'overly sensitive' etc. This is our way of giving ourselves queer representation.

I mean, there are gay anime, but nothing with the kind of intensity and fun that BNHA brings to the table, and there are shows with camp gay characters that.... don't really represent much, they're more for laughs. This is a very interesting ship, and is one I actually enjoy! Though, I do think that you could give some minor argument with the Stain arc. I do understand what you mean though when you disregarded it. I would like it to become canon, though I'm almost certain it won't. Regardless of whether it becomes canon or not, it is still a fun ship! However, I never saw it as Izuku being attracted to Todoroki in the first place; I see it rather as they had a moment of emotional connection and became good friends at first. They have very good chemistry (as a result of main characterness) and I think they could have the possibility to develop their relationship into a romantic one, if this wasn't anime (especially shounen)
