Really nice review! I have the Makeblock xTool D1 10 watt laser engraver with the optional roller engraving device and 8 leg extensions. I also purchased the Xtool Honeycomb Bed and Comgrow Enclosure, along with the xTool D1. This laser engraver is amazing, and it will engrave and cut (with limitations) a lot of different materials. Makeblock is also releasing a 20 watt laser and power supply upgrade (plug and play) for the Xtool D1 in May of 2022. The xTool D1 laser engraver is easy to assemble and use (with a small learning curve). The proprietary "Laserbox" software is very limited in what it can do, and spending an extra initial $60 (then $30 annually) for the very advanced and useful "Lightburn" software is almost a must. The key to making the xTool D1 work well is setting the tension on all 3 belts correctly and evenly, and also keeping the track rods lubed. Also, the xTool Honeycomb Bed really helps a lot with heat dissipation, so that you don't burn or discolor the material that you are engraving or cutting. A good enclosure (like the Comgrow) with a smoke extraction setup is also very helpful, especially when cutting. The cable management of the xTool D1 could be better, but it is easily remedied with a little creativity. The trick to speeding up engraving times is learning the proper laser speed and intensity to use. Also, setting burn/cut layer priorities , and increasing "whitespace" travel speed in Lightburn really helps a lot to immensely decrease engraving times. Learning to center an engraving on materials also takes a bit of learning, and the red crosshair targeting laser really helps (it is 16mm off of the main blue laser, and the distance can be adjusted for accuracy in Lightburn). However, using the (shift) "fire laser" and "framing" features in Lightburn really help with the centering issue, once you learn to use them. The WiFi works well, but only works with Laserbox for now. However, when using WiFi you still have to physically push the start button on the xTool D1 for safety reasons. I have not used the phone App. option yet, so I cannot speak for how well it works. I highly recommend the xTool D1 if you are getting into laser engraving, and are not ready to shell out the money for an expensive CO2 laser quite yet. However, just remember that this is a very real "laser," and the UV light is very damaging to your eyes (never look directly at the laser without good eye protection). I highly recommend ditching the included (green) safety glasses and purchasing some professional (amber) laser glasses that are certified to block laser light in the 455nm range. Afterall, you only get one pair of eyes in your lifetime. Also, never burn plastics like PVC, as they will produce deadly Chlorine Gas when heated. Even regular wood smoke can be toxic and irritating, depending on the species of wood. Especially exotic hardwoods like Purpleheart. If anyone has any questions regarding the xTool D1 just let me know, as I have quite a bit of experience with it now, as well as the Lightburn software. I am always willing to help fellow laser users.🙂 PS. The only reason I can think of as to why they call that metal rod an "optical shaft" is that it really hurts if you poke yourself in the eye with it. 🤣

Will the 5watt laser engrave and Cut wood and such materials
@antonioponzio309 Жыл бұрын
Hi, this laser engrave aluminium? If yes, is this mark dark black?
@TripodsGarage Жыл бұрын
Hello, unfortunately it "will not" engrave aluminum. None of these 455nm laser will engrave metal. You will need to get a 1064nm laser to engrave aluminum.

I have been looking at this laser for a bit now and I must say I will probably go with this one. Light burn basic might be their way of getting people to buy the better software. Thanks for the review

Thank you for the review! I just purchased mine and I’m still learning. Thanks for including the spoil board dimensions! The XTool honeycomb board comes in inches (but shows in mm on the website) and I’m still trying to figure out which I should stick with (in/mm). Wish I paid better attention in grammar school when they wanted us all to learn the metric system. Would have been helpful if the US converted! I’m still trying to figure out how to match the grid in lightburn to the spoil board. Any suggestions? Again, great review.

John, I will be 69 in November and use metric all the time, multiples of 10, nothing easier

I have a K40 but its not big enough for some of the projects I have planned so I have been thinking about making a tool change for my MPCNC but cant find any laser half as powerful as the Co2 laser in my K40, I cant easily put the guts of the K40 on the MPCNC as there are mirrors involved and I dont want unprotected laser beams in my shop, I suppose I could enclose the MPCNC which I have also been thinking about, but then I would need open access to the machine for servicing and the changing of the tool head from time to time. It wouldn't be so bad if I could get my hands on a larger diode laser system but as of yet they are still relatively small

Great video man, very informative. Looking at purchasing one currently. Would the 10W version be powerful enough to cut through say 6mm plywood and 6mm acrylic?
@TripodsGarage2 жыл бұрын
Greetings! Thanks for watching and commenting! It is tough to say if it will cut through 6mm of plywood on one pass. The reason, not all plywood is the same, nor very consistent. My answer would be, maybe in two passes, since it is an engineered wood. If you are looking to cut clear acrylic, it cannot. It can cut black acrylic at 5mm with one pass at 1% speed 100% power. Otherwise it might need another pass. Remember, the further the laser is from optimal focal length, the weaker it becomes. Let me know if you have any further questions.

@TripodsGarage2 жыл бұрын
This can cut black acrylic. Unfortunately it cannot cut clear acrylic. You will want a CO2 laser for that.

Can XTool D1 10W engrave on stainless steel ? I mean engrave not only print
@TripodsGarage2 жыл бұрын
It will mark stainless steel. I could feel the ever so slight etch in the container I showed with the Ford Tough logo. If you want to engrave and etch stainless steel, and other metals, you should go with a fiber laser.
