This time I will discuss about Shoulder Pain / Shoulder and Upper Arm Pain known as Frozen Shoulder.
One of the most characteristic of Shoulder Pain / Shoulder Pain and Upper Arm (Frozen Shoulder) is difficulty in lifting the upper arm.
Complaints Usually when lifting the arm when wearing clothes, arm pain when scratching the back, and also the shoulder to the upper arm feels pain after playing badminton.

Frozen shoulder is pain in the shoulder caused by a
inflammation of the joint capsule and can cause
joint capsule and cartilage adhesions.

Clinical signs and symptoms
found in frozen shoulder:
- There is pain when moving
- Limitation of joint movement, such as difficulty lifting hands, combing hair, wearing clothes, and scratching the back.
- Decreased muscle strength around the shoulder
Causes of Shoulder Pain / Shoulder Pain and Upper Arm (Frozen Shoulder)
Risk Factors for Shoulder Pain / Shoulder Pain or Frozen Shoulder
- Age
Most cases of Shoulder Pain / Shoulder Pain or Frozen Shoulder occur in patients with
40-60 years old.
- Diabetes mellitus
Patients with a history of diabetes mellitus have a greater risk of experiencing limitations in the joints, not only in the shoulder but in other joints. The use of insulin also increases the risk of joint stiffness.
- Immobilization
A large number of referrals for shoulder stiffness after prolonged periods of rest or non-mobilization of the shoulder.
- Thyroid Disorder
Hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism often causes bilateral frozen shoulder.
- Neurological Conditions
Patients with neurological complaints such as Parkinson's or stroke have a risk of developing frozen shoulder. Incidence of Shoulder Pain / Shoulder Pain or Frozen Shoulder in Parkinson's patients was significantly higher. Patients with hemiplegia complain of shoulder pain and are prone to shoulder joint stiffness. Hand and shoulder syndrome is common in stroke patients.
- Genetics
Heredity affects more than 40% in cases of Shoulder Pain / Shoulder Pain or Frozen Shoulder.
