As a life-long GnR fan I've watched a few documentaries on GnR / Sunset Stripe in L.A.1980'S etc. and you did a good job making sure all the relevent information about them was in there. What great subject matter to do as your project, I would've struggled choosing between them, Metallica, Iron Maiden or Ac/Dc as all four bands are huge and I'm a life-long fan of all them and was just starting my teens when I first heard Apetite For Destruction - it was like nothing I'd heard before, (& certainly not in our house!) & I have never looked back. Well, he felt these guys who he literally knew forever (got Slash to start playing the guitar!) all got high, all hit bottom, all got sober, and then left his ass on the side of the road when he needed his “family” the most. I think he is the victim of his own bad decisions and understand people that never seem to get it when it matters but he has a small point. Not being there when he was probably saying he was going to kick all while the guys finding shit hidden everywhere didn’t help his case. Plus; once you get clean the chance of failing back into using is so precarious that they have to be militant about keeping dope out of arm’s reach. Steven seems like he understands better now but I bet he learned a lot about trust and true loyalty which isn’t easy to come by in the self-centered LA scene
@ddobry215 жыл бұрын
@@KCJAM1 did he EVER get sober? I doubt he's sober now. Like it or not, GNR had become big business and tough decisions had to be made. Trust me, hauling a junkie around with you on tour is a real burden. Junkies are the neediest of the needy. Very few can pull it off like Slash did and that's nobodies fault. Steven should have realized that he's no Slash and worked on his issues, for on methadone or something. He had options and chances at least at first.

In March 14 2020 at Mexico city i was with my 14 years old daughter and 50k more peolpe in the last concert of the world that we knew before virus infection. I think GNR was chosen by destiny to write that page of history and i´m glad my doughter and I were part of it. We´ll never forget. I think for a couple of years from now no massive concerts will be possible or safe because C19. I hope music and this hard experience help mankind to change society to save the planet and mankind itself. For those who had left us because of this....we salute you.

GNR IS A PHENOMENAL BAND. ALL OF THE BAND MEMBERS ARE SO VERY TALENTED. I PERSONALLY BELIEVE THAT AXL ROSE ACCELERATED HIS TALENT BY, FOR THE MOST PART, STAYING AWAY FROM DRUGS. I HIGHLY RESPECT AXL ROSE FOR STAYING CLEAN AND NOT INDULGING IN DRUGS AND THAT IS WHY HIS SONGS ARE AMAZING. I WOULD HOPE TO SOMEDAY SEE GNR IN CONCERT HERE OR NEAR THE VILLAGES, FLORIDA. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

His bi polar 2 hours late for shows BS didnt help matters. He handled it like a disgruntled 13 year old. Add his drinking and tantrums... he was just as much a loser as the rest of em. Seems they have all mostly grown up now though.

Great piece here! The ONLY thing I would like to add is, the photo of Jefferson High School is actually the "Old" High School from the early 1900s located on South 9th street. He did not attend that one and attended the current Jefferson High School located on S. 18th Street.

GNR damn sure weren’t angels but they were very dedicated to there music and what they believed in many record companies tried to get them to change but they didn’t Axl was a very angry man back in the late 80s but he wasn’t afraid to say anything that was on his mind like when they won the Michael Jackson vanguard award for November Rain in 1992 he grabbed the microphone and said that GNR was in no way affiliated with Michael Jackson he caught a lot of slack for that but now we know the rest of the story I love GNR my favorite band of all time the best thing about GNR is I believe that they came along and made rock n roll DANGEROUS again and that is a fact rock on GNR

Believe me, if GNR ever releases another album, Axl's voice would absolutely be autotuned. Dude's completely lost his singing ability. There's gonna be lots of FX used on the songs to cover up Axl's deficiencies.

The music video to Estranged is the best example of a "jump the shark moment" any rock band ever had. From the poor dolphins and the oil tanker to Slash emerging from the sea, it's just too much and taking itself too serious. I fully understand why people were craving for something more authentic, and Grunge felt like a breath of fresh air. I also understand why Cobain despised his label mates that much. I still prefer GNR over Nirvana, but the best 20 songs from Use Your Illusion don't come close to Appetite and Lies -- in my humble opinion. Authenticity over virtuosity.
