There are only so many notes in music, it’s inevitable that songs will sound the same. It’s because she is a young girl people can’t believe she is smart enough to make up her own music, especially when it’s as good as it is. i imagine it’s extremely frustrating for her.

There are just so many similarities that it kind of paints Olivia's as unoriginal at best, and copyrighted at worst. Same chords, not a big deal. Same key, not a big deal. Same beats per minute, not a big deal. Same melody, sketchy. Same musical genre, SUPER sketchy. All of that stuff.... not great. Music doesn't have a huge palette, so it's pretty easy to stumble over something that's already been made before, but usually not THAT close.

Actually if you strip down the guitar in misery business it is the exact same as Olivia's vocal line. Same key, same melody, same progression, same rhythms. Literally if you lay it over its the same for over half the song.

i say this as a huge Paramore fan, this was not plagiarism. the first time I heard the song, I did think of misery business, but that happens A LOT with a lot of songs. have you never had one song stuck in your head and suddenly it leads into another one because a chord progression is similar? I'm happy that there was credit given, but the amount of hate is unwarranted. people really like hating on young upcoming artists, especially if they're women, and it reeks of misogyny. edit: to clarify because my wording was ambiguous, when I say credit here I don't mean writing credits. paramore did not write this song. I mean that I'm happy that credit for the inspiration was given because the song is influenced by them. if we had to give credit for every chord progression that is similar to another one, everyone since 1700 should have been crediting mr j s bach lmao

@@fantasiybooks3691 no, not credits (as in, as if they wrote the song). @@shannondigby567 the bass line is completely different. The melodies are not the same, they only go up and down in about one or two places. The song barely has a guitar solo. The whole thing about this and Hayley specifically is... honestly Hayley is the type who... doesn't care about stuff like this. She's gone on record before to talk about this before in both the case of "people plagiarizing Paramore" and her herself "plagiarizing other artists" and was incredibly understanding and uplifting of other artists. So the whole thing of people thinking Hayley asked for this herself on a song she publically distances herself with a co-writer she PUBLICALLY HATES (Zac is the only Farro we acknowledge in this house)... It ain't adding up to me that's all.

There is a good mashup of Good 4 U and Misery Business which was cool and works well, maybe they can collaborate and make a live duet/remix or so. While there are a few similarities, they are 2 different songs. I feel Good 4 U has more dynamic in range in the vocals and there’s more bass guitar and the drums are different. Also tempo changes are more apparent in Good 4 U and the pauses help whereas Misery Business doesn’t have as many pauses. I’m fine with Misery Business but Good 4 U I find to be a better song IMO.

I thought I was crazy because I literally only saw people saying the exact same thing about her being a thief or an unoriginal artist, completely bashing her for something that every single artist does. The songs are not so similar that anybody else should get a writing credit or any of that on it. Can songs not be inspired by other things nowadays? They’re not even the same. Literally every artist on planet earth has probably gotten inspiration from another song, literally any other song. There are only so many things you can do in music until music notes or themes will start to sound similar in some sort of way. This same shit happened with déjà vu, and I’ve heard cruel summer, neither one sounds that alike. You can tell there’s some inspiration in the shouting bit, but sure as hell not enough for Taylor (no offense) to be credited on it as a co-writer or whatever it was. People are being so damn petty it’s ridiculous.

I like Adam's take. At some point you're choosing money over artistry. The level to which people will go to smash the work of other people just to make more money, just hurts the industry. Even if there are similarities, they're very obviously different songs and artists.

It’s a good mashup, though I wonder if a mashup can be made with the Good 4 U instrumentals like the bass guitar and the drum changes. Too me, Misery Business doesn’t have the tempo changes Good 4 U has and might be one of the reasons why I like Good 4 U better than Misery Business.

Paramore is my all time fave band and Misery Business was the first song I'd ever heard from them. The first time I listened to "good 4 u", I loved it and didn't think it sounded the same at all. The chorus is literally the only section that I could really hear inspiration from, people got so heated over this for no reason lol Solid take o the topic, and I agree, people just wanna hate on a new artist. Her song Brutal seems to take a ton of inspiration from Riot Grrrl era punk bands, so I'm curious if anyone will raise hell about that next.
