To get tension on your fence, you may need to make rigid corner posts (the rest could still be plastic). If you mounted wooden or metal batons in a concrete base, you could still move them easy enough but could tighten the wire a lot more. When we did (permanent) fences, we usually put a tensioning ratchet in each strand... you could probably achieve the same thing by setting up the whole perimeter and then moving one or some of your plastic posts outward a little. It would look like a dog's hind leg but you should have tension. Anyhoo, thoughts.

It was sad what happened with the sheep at Sow the lands homestead. I hope the 5 strand system works well for you. Love the content and have a blessed day.

Sure was. I’m glad I saw the video because we had the net here. Luckily we were able to return it and get this. I will say, the poly wire is way easier to handle than the net is especially the big, 164 foot net. I think I’ll try and get all the animals to this wire and do away with the nets.

I watched a video about the fence, and the people in it ran lead rodes from the posts like the ones used on a tent to keep the fence tight.

Interesting. I’ll give it a look. Thanks

On your corner you can take a stake put it in a angle both ways zip tie to the corner that will strengthen your corner up so you can tighten your fence
@TriStarHomestead5 ай бұрын
You mean like a corner brace on a t post? Not sure how well that would work with the plastic but it’s worth a try.
@dankrieg20485 ай бұрын
@@TriStarHomestead yeah plastic will work

@@TriStarHomestead but a slight angle about maybe 6" from the top tie off work a try

Great set up. I saw the sheep video on Sow the Land, and their sheep were so much skittish compared to your five. Do they need extra feed if they are munching all day? Is there anything they won't eat? Thank you for sharing.

Ours are friendly yes but I’m not sure he had enough time with his to get them to come around. Seemed to have happened fast. We have been working with ours every day since we got them, multiple times a day to get them to come to us.

Sheep cannot feel shock through their wool, the only home you have is the hit the fence with their face first. But on the positive side it should keep fox and coyotes out. They should stay in as long as there is plenty to eat.

Our sheep are hair sheep so they can feel it everywhere. But yes, wool sheep are insulated.

We do sell some stuff but haven’t pushed it yet as we are focusing on the house. We have been selling eggs and this year we sold chickens, turkeys, pig shares and will sell any extra piglets.

Verbal call and food good way to get them. Also too bad you did use the net you could have put chickens right in behind them to eat the bugs and parasites and till the land a big to get the grasses to come back thicker and better. Good for chickens and sheep.
@TriStarHomestead5 ай бұрын
We have chicken net and plan to move them behind the sheep. They are working on another area right now though.

@@TriStarHomestead great minds so want to get myself a small farm. We had one but my grandfather sold off most of the land we had a tractor and few implements for pretty much our food. I worked a few farms near me. As a youth all I wanted was to get out of the country but for last 20 something years all I want is to go back lol.
