With a small tank, you can mix 3A and 3B together in 1:1 ratios and dilute 1 and 2 with 1:1 RO water so you've got 3 solutions, not four, and save yourself a dosing head! You have to double the dose rate but with a small tank it's no big deal (probably more accurate for the dosing pump really).

A mate of mine is using DSR method. He hasn't changed water in 5 years and he has no issues whatsoever apart from slightly raised Phosphates which don't cause any problems. I might go with it and avoid water changes altogether.

Sorry for the late comment but what about tanks running a algae scrubber? Would I go with other methods?
@GalleryAquaticaTV
@GalleryAquaticaTV 4 жыл бұрын
ViciouslyMoist the main reason there’s a difference is that macro algae requires an extra set of elements. So I would think it’s best to use the one for the refugium if you are growing macro algae in the scrubber

Hey my favorite fish guy 😀. You said that mixing magnesium with water makes solutions hot. That's proof that isn't magnesium. That's calcium chloride. This compound mixing with water makes solutions hot. Calcium chloride has such a chemical property not magnesium. Regards from Poland mate!

There are a lot of different products on the market. I use the ATI-Essentiels, this is a little bit more easy to mix. They also provide a two part solution. Did you use and test the different products and recognized serious differences? Anyway, actually it is NaHCO3, CaCl, MgCl (Balling) and trace elements. Sure, the recipes may differ a little bit and triton have 2 parts of carbon sources...But in the End they are more or less the same?!
@GalleryAquaticaTV
@GalleryAquaticaTV 4 жыл бұрын
ATI isn’t really available to us so I’ve never used it. I’m sure it’s good too. I’ve used lots of brands of sups but I’ve never seen a more obvious improvements than when I switch a tank to Triton. Cam

How strange. I’ve never had Core7 with hard chunks and I’ve never seen the separate small bottle with trace elements. Mine always comes just as four containers and it’s super fine powder. Also my calcium doesn’t come in a bag. Wonder if it’s a different supply? I’m in the UK. I do still have to mix 1 and 2 (although different to this), but 3a and 3b are premixed and do not need RO. It must be a regional thing. I’ll drop Julian an email and ask him why he thinks it’s different.

@GalleryAquaticaTV
@GalleryAquaticaTV 4 жыл бұрын
There are lots of systems that work well. Triton is about balance in your reef tank, both chemically and ecologically. If you’re someone who enjoys the process of doing a waterchange and using a calcium reactor that’s great, but just because that works for you doesn’t mean other systems are crap. The triton method is the easiest and most successful system I’ve seen in 20 years of reefing, so it’s my go-to system to get the results my clients expect. Cam
