Lovely bike, great video. Having ridden a Harley for 14 years, I’m done with heavy bikes and the whole culture/vibe that’s associated with that brand. Triumph has a much fresher look and design. Think I need to test ride one.👍

I love HD and the heritage. Unfortunately, the culture and "clients" have ran me away. Every time I went to local shop, there was a "club" or other super tough person or trashy dudes with their babes in pj's....walmart ish. Got tired of lame tent sales, bikini bike wash, etc at weekend days at HD dealers. Guess I'm just an old boomer. Sold my 2021 Street bob and Heritage.... BMW r9t, old sportster, and now prob a t120.

I have a sapphire black T120. It's my first bike, I use it as my daily commuter, and for longer trips. It does everything in perfect way. You can go 20 minutes to start work with a smile on your face, and spend 4 hours at once with same smile without pain anywhere. "One for all" is a great summary of this bike. Good and bad thing about this bike is in Poland it looks so "normally" that no one is bothering me to talk about it :D

How does your T120 hold up in the winter? I'm guessing the winters in Poland are a bit similar to the UK - wet and miserable...does the bike fair OK with corrosion etc?

going to buy it this week...I'm a little bit concerned about the temperature out of the 1.200 cc engine. Someone is suggesting to go for the T100 for that reason. I love my t120 so much. Biggest gripes are chain maintenence (i prefer shaft), weak headlights arent bright enough for nighttime, no backlit switchgear, hard to clean, no wind protection. Apart from the headlight and switchgear those gripes have got to be expected on a retro bike and i knew what i was getting. I commute 100 miles a day on mine and love the bike. Returns 65-70mpg, is fun enough, cool enough, practical enough and versatile enough. Fantastic all rounder

I’m biased, but I love mine. Strongly recommend the Motone tail tidy and billet indicators. Brings those elements up to the quality of the rest of the bike - removes a lot of plastic. Plus you get some under seat storage for a disc lock, etc.

You’re absolutely right about the strong points of this bike it is adorable. I had one but couldn’t explore it in on a long term basis because on the way, I’ve fallen in love with another motorcycle beauty 😍 Nevertheless, I kept it as a reference bike. I concluded that it was too classic for me, and If in the future the possibility happens I would very much be interested in owning the Bonneville 120 cc Scrambler XC, Which is a bike with a bigger road presence, a bigger gas tank that promotes a different kind of riding and a superior set of suspensions without losing the retro feeling of the Bonneville family. It’s very good to see that Triumph still invest in this line of more traditional look of motorcycles, they’re simply good looking bikes with a lot of modern technical features, bringing the past together with the comfort and safety features of the Present. Brilliant!

after 22k km, my 3 nitpicks of this bike is definitely the headlights. followed by the rear suspension and then the pirelli phantom tyres. i have upgraded the latter two and it most certainly improved the riding experience especially around corners and in the rain. For anyone thinking of adding anything further, i would recommend bar end mirrors to see what's behind a bit better, and then a centre stand for maintenance purposes.

I feel a lump in my throat. I rode a T120 Bonneville (650 4-gear) in the 1960's here in Australia. And it rode just as you describe here in your video. It would burble happily around the city (Brisbane) and was very manoeuvrable, or take off leaving almost everyone else in the dust if you changed down and grabbed a fistful of revs. It had a certain feel on the road. It was extremely responsive and I hardly ever needed to use full throttle to really accelerate and fly. With the 360 crank it was very low engine vibration. When my mates and I swapped bikes for fun at times they were green with envy at how silky the ride was. Especially the owners of the new Japanese bikes that were taking over. I don't know how anyone put up with the 180 crank Japanese twin. Much worse than a single. They made your hands go numb. But that was then, perhaps they are better now. From your review I would say this new T120 is not just retro in looks. I want to tell you that all the fine riding features you describe in this video were there in my 1964 - 650 Triumph T120. The new one appears to have a near identical frame/forks/trailing-arm architecture and riding position. What a magical thing that the modern iteration has captured so well the deep spirit of the original Bonneville. I am very impressed and not a little moved. Still have my license but haven't ridden for years. I would so love to take one out for a run. I can tell from your ride and its note that I would be at one with it in minutes, and that's not just sentiment. I used to take my girlfriend out on it. We are still married. I really miss my old Bonnie, but am staggered that it has been reincarnated - better than ever. (I have posted this on another review of the T120, but it fits your review perfectly as well)

Great review man! I have the black edition, bought it this year ❤️. I found there was a bonding process i had to go through to really get to know the bike. Took a few months of taking it out through the twisties, at high speeds on long motorways, around town etc. I realised that the bike is very capable of being nimble, you just need to put more input in than a bike with sharper geometry .ie. Throwing your weight to setup corners, dropping your knee like a sports rider, committing to a proper lean. You bond with the bike and learn about each other and then the bike opens up to a whole new level. Absolutely love it, keeper for life and the greatest place to be. Also, i like to ride around town or through slow traffic in rain mode. In fact most of my everyday riding is in rain mode. Softens the throttle input and has a placebo effect to make you more relaxed and take your time. That actually equates to better fuel consumption because you ride it gentler and don't drink fuel. Then when you want to open it up for a more spirited ride, road mode is like a pleasant surprise. Keep up the great work mate!

Yea totally agree. It was a good week of lots of riding before it clicked for me… you can properly chuck it into corners or take it easy and it takes it. Reminds me of a Labrador, in a strange way 😂

Have to agree. I’ve a 2020 T120. Not only a good bike to ride (proper bike but with ABS and TC..), lots to tweak on it/make it your own. Reliable too. Best accessory I think was a ‘comfort’ seat-makes it palatable for 3 hour rides. Rear shocks probably could do with upgrading. Oem Tyres a bit sh*t. Exhausts look good and sound good.. but shorties make it easier to adjust the chain.

I own that model and agree with almost everything you said. The peashooters are great, but they're not symmetrical, which keeps me up at night! 😂 the side stand is a bit annoying too, it's too long and the locating lug is too short. That helmet is almost identical to the one I used on my 1964 Bonnie in the 1960s. Yes the chrome is just right, especially the pipes and silencers, that's how the 64 model was. As for weight, don't be silly. The bike isn't boring, it is friendly and easy to ride. Sluggish at low speed? - You're obviously in the wrong gear and mine was only a four speed. It is hard to describe just why my Bonneville was so, ummm - right. I'm not talking about the specs, looks etc. It kind of fitted you. It was versatile and easy to ride and yet would snarl and intimidate when you felt like doing that. It was less an extension of your personality and externals and more like being an extension of your mood. I've had a lot of bikes and cars in my 75 years and nothing has ever come close to the feeling of oneness or completeness that my Bonnie provided. I really miss it - still.

I don't disagree with anything said here, Willie. However, if you do your own maintenance, or get a rear tire flat while out on the road, you WILL loathe the bike. It is impossible to remove the rear wheel without removing the left muffler. Adjusting the chain either requires you make your own special tools or once again loosening both mufflers to get them out of the way. Do your own oil change? Ya gotta pay the dealer to reset the service light (there now is a way but you have to buy a special gizmo). I love the bike and ride the piss out of it, day rides, long distance tours, everything. I just hate working on it.

You can remove the rear wheel without touching the silencers. Just loosen up rear shocks and pull them back, from there you have full access to rear wheel bolts. A little trick when replacing the wheel is to put a block under is to help guide it into place
@richardreed2688
@richardreed2688 9 ай бұрын
Great tip! Thanks. However, if you are adjusting the chain, you are still screwed as the bike needs to be sitting full weight on the wheels. Getting to the adjusters is damn near impossible. I modified several cheap 12mm and 13mm wrenches with some "subtantial heat" and a bench grinder, and even then I pull the mufflers out a bit (they give) to let me get a bite on the lock nuts. Very tedious but doable. Clearly Triumph did not have owner maintenance in mind during the design phase.

Ah the dear old 120! Back in the heroic age it would leave other vehicles standing. It had a brilliant bombproof motor. It weighed less than 400 pounds. However, its handling was treacherous. Its frame was awful. This is why these engines ended up in Featherbed frames: the apolaustic Triton. Perhaps the modern 120s handle better, but I suspect they have been compromised by too much weight, a problem that manufacturers have largely ignored. Thus, the handling problem returns...

The Bonneville family is an all rounder. It does get a bit uncomfortable in 300 plus mile rides, can be sluggish feeling if your friends ride Speed Triples or similar, and are inadequate for two up riding. HOWEVER, those are rather niche use cases in today’s motorcycling world. Today, the number one use of a motorbike is “parked in garage” and the second is “solo weekend country ride”. In both these, the Bonneville excels.

I just got (in California ) a T120 Chrome Edition Bonneville. I've been riding a Moto Guzzi V7 Racer from 2013 so a big difference in riding position and motor feel in the frame. The Bonnie is really fun to ride and I don't have to stop every so often and shake out my wrist as I do on the Café bikes ( I'm over 60 - so no fault of the Guzzi ) . What I find interesting is how nimble the bike feels on the road. You can chuck it into corners and lean pretty heavily in the twisties without it feeling odd at all. It is o comfortable on freeways too and the low end grunt of the 1200 is so fun. I agree on your chrome comments obviously and the looks of the bike is just killer- great review thanks so much. I actually love how my T120 lets me switch between old-school halogen dipped beam and modern LED daytime running light. But I suppose there could have been a way to have the LED turn off completely when the dipped beam is active, it does look a bit weird with both of them.

I had a T120, beautiful bike, I had the cases nickel plated, probably the prettiest bike I have owned. But it took a lot to sort out the ride and handling, progressive front Hagon rear and definitely change those tyres ! We did two up touring inc France and it coped well but if you want to do lots of two up touring and still have a great handling bike then the Harley baggers the way to go ! There is no comparison between the T120 and our present Road King Special although the Harley does cost a lot more and if you think the Triumph is heavy !! 😃 well best go to the gym ! If I could have afforded to keep the Triumph and buy the Harley I would I definitely would have as it was such a nice bike ( once it was sorted !)

Like most bikes once you go over 5mph, you just have to remember that you won't be moving it backwards up any slope 😄 ! The turning and slow speed handling is good but you got to be confident and don't touch that front brake ! Watch some of the American KZbin vids of them going through the cones on these things 😉 I have to admit I was a little unsure at first, but the weight is low down and you just get used to it.
