A few years ago, my man had to have a very dangerous surgery and we had to drive to the next state to a specialty hospital for it. It had been a year-long struggle trying to figure out what the problem was but once we did it became even scarier. He had the surgery and it was completely successful. When he was released, we were on our way home and as we were getting on the highway on-ramp this song came on. We sang it together. I will never forget it. ❤️

I never knew this was about cancer and the lyrics don't really reflect that. I always just thought it was about being a good person. A lot of Triumphs stuff is about that. It helped me a tremendous amount growing up.

In Canada, the news pitted them against Rush. Each has 1 similar vocal range of the lead singer 2 a three-member band 3 has at least 1 all-star on an instrument: Rush: drums, bass guitar; Triumph: guitar, drums. But on the contrary, the two bands are friends! Also review Lay It on the Libe, Magic Power.

Dream Theater's song "Another Day" is about John Petrucci's father having cancer, the song is lyrically verbose and it's a heartfelt ballad featuring a sax. "A Change of Seasons" is about Mike Portnoy's mother dying in a plane crash and the mixture of emotions he went through processing that. By some it's considered one of the biggest prog masterpieces ever and is usually in the top 5 with fans. Lastly "Best of Times" was written to Mike Portony's father when he was dying of cancer...huge Rush vibe to that song and it ends in a very melancholy way. An amazing Petrucci solo in that song, one of his best heartfelt ones. My grandmother died of cancer, she was my best friend. I always went to her for help or advice and then suddenly I couldn't talk to her. The cancer was around her throat and was actually choking off blood to her brain, so she started displaying Alzheimer's symptoms or dementia. She was only sick for 8 months before she passed but I swear it felt like 5 years...

Probably the best lyric in the entire piece: "...but you're the master of your own destiny {Sorry: A fallacy. Not true. Other people's choices and things you cannot control end-up influencing and controlling your life, your options, your choices and (thus) your journey. ...but that's a great lyrical line. 🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥} So give and take the best that you can!" 🤘🤘

My favorite Canadian band. Got to see them in 1986, during the *"Sport Of Kings"* tour. One of the best concerts I've ever been to. They had it all, talent and a great stage show. Rik Emmett was nice "eye candy" too. Their lyrics were very inspirational, without being preachy or heavy handed in Christianity. I always felt better after listening to one of Triumph's songs...

I was always a huge Triumph fan, watched them live several times. I can still remember the day that I heard they were disbanding. I was pretty upset. Was lucky enough to watch them play their farewell show at Kingswood music theatre before they went their separate ways. It was not like any of their regular shows, which were always intense experiences with tons of lasers, lights, smoke, pyrotechnics, they were a tour de force live. The show at Kingswood was bare bones, they did it on short notice for the local Toronto Fan base. It was a sombre crowd but appreciative. Sad day.

I was at a pre TEXXAS JAM party once. A lot of rock celebrities were there. The party was in my old neighborhood of East Dallas. There was one guy there that I thought I knew from high school. We stared at each other all night, surely we knew each other from school. Before I left to go to work, he came up to me and said "I think I know you from somewhere". I replied "same here. Did you go to Woodrow Wilson?" He said no, he wasn't from Dallas. He stuck out his hand to shake mine and introduced himself as Mike Lavine. I felt so stupid. Of course he was with Triumph, and as a DJ, I should have known. Dio broke my nose at the same party, accidentally of course, with his forehead LOL. So many cool people were there, I wish we had phones with cameras back then. Keep up the great work here on your great channel!!

They are not a cheap imitation of Rush! Singer does sound a bit like Geddy Lee in places but less range. That and the fact they're a 3 piece band from Canada is where the similarities to Rush end. Rush songs are more complex, multi layered with lots of changes. The percussion is far superior & showcased. Rush is progressive rock. Triumph is an excellent rock band. Not dissing - I luv em. Have 3 of their albums and seen em live twice. Magic Power is on my top 10 fav songs list. Plz pick next!! Thanks for the great reaction & evaluation Chod!
