I'm enjoying this little series of videos, I'm all for spending as little as you can and seeing if you can improve things at least for a little while. Looking forward to the next one!

Cheers mate, yeah that's the plan so Danny will have more funds for getting the bodytub sorted out right. The engine can always be revisited later down the line 👍

So NOW you’ve grabbed my full attention! My mk1 will be ready by spring after 5 years of restauration. I’m not a mechanic myself so it’s very interesting to see how the internals of the car work and look like. Can’t wait for the next one!

Nice work Steve, I am taking a Sat afternoon break from spring yard work to catch up on where you are at in the garage. Was looking at the GT6 engine sitting in my garage thinking that might be the next vid while I save the money for the driver side floor and sill repair. Keep up the great work mate. On to the next video...

It will be interesting to see what the compression numbers are now after your hard work Steve.

Fingers crossed its up it, if not it'll be in bits again and the pistons will be coming out. The joys of working on a car that's been dead for 20-30 years 👍

@@SteveDentonClassics well, it’s all in how much money the owner wants to invest Steve. Your hands are tied a little bit. But, it would be great to get it up and running again...so what if it smokes a bit 😉
@SteveDentonClassics

That's very much so the case. Danny has always been good when it come to funding his TR6, and now his GT6 is being revived the money flow is similar. Get whatever it needs, but with whats going on in the world right now, and the run up to Christmas, the budget is a little more tight on things 👍

Good video on cleaning up a tired head. I would have added checking the valve guides to the process. As worn as the valves were the guides are probably shot too. Driving out the old guides and pressing in a new set would be within the bench top process of reviving the head. It would prevent excessive oil consumption by the vehicle and extend the life of the revival.
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 4 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate, this is true and a very good point with checking and replacing the valve guide. However at the moment its all about just getting the car running for minimal cost so the owner Danny can put his money into restoring the bodytub. It's a job that will be revisited at a later date once the body tub has been restored 👍

Nice video, is there a plan to port the head?
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Keith, at the moment it's jut get the engine running, then make it somewhat driveable. After that Danny (the owner) will have to send it off for the bodytub to be restored. Once it comes back from that, then there a chance that things like that may happen 👍

Morning Master ! Looking at how filthy your hands are is the very reason l chose panel beating instead ! There must be a good reason why you don't wear latex gloves .Some just simply don't like wearing gloves full stop. I can't remember the last time l saw a drill with a chuck and key . Must be an old faithful friend . To be fair l did recondition a mini head once . Took the car down the road and the the pistons predetonated ,overheated and that was the end of my engineering ! As you say Steve without going into lots of expense this really is a case of make do and mend. Guess you've not had a break from work . Somehow l find it unfair that some people can furlough and get paid and key workers just work ! All of my family are key workers but more or less take it on the chin ! Well look after yourself and see you soon with another of your great shows.

I do wear latex gloves, just not all the time, I tend to prefer using barrier cream. I tend to find you feel things better with your own skin. And yeah with working at the moment, nothing has really changed for me. Its get up go to work, the same old same old without the pubs being open. I can't complain, at least I have a job and a roof over my head 👍

I’m struggling to find the thread size on my mga mk11 You don’t happen to know it do you as I’m putting a moss tt exhaust on next week and am preparing for broken studs keep the videos coming
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 4 жыл бұрын
Is it the manifold stud to exhaust? If so 3/8 UNC on the shot end and 3/8 UNF on the long end. Then manifold to cylinder head is 5/16 UNF both ends 👍

@SteveDentonClassics

On a guess a couple of hours, I did this one evening after work, but I don't really look too much at the clock when I work on the classic cars, as I'm doing what I love doing 👍

And that is why I hate having a lack of funds to do the job properly - you just know what goes around comes around at a later stage to bite even harder into your wallet. Ah well, C'est la vie .
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 4 жыл бұрын
It's so true, and why I usually say do it right do it once. However in this once case its lets see if we can get it going on the cheap, that'll hopefully help the owner Danny with his funds for restoring the bodytub. Then redo the mechanics properly later 👍
