the best rant yet! I read an article describing this expert, who fitted an expansion chamber, and now at 70mph his fizzbang was doing 6000rpm, before fitting this exhaust it was doing 8000rpm at 70mph!! Fantastic bit of kit - an exhaust that changes the gearing. I wonder where he is now? - Wait a minute....

Hello Paul, there's nothing like a good rant, good remedy for the poor weather. Growing up in the seventies I always hankered for the Honda SS50 ultimate cool bike to me. However, back to the serious point of making your bike go faster, you can't make me believe that we kids cut up cereal boxes and made a small block of cardboard and pinched my dear Mum's pegs and fixed these to run against our bicycle spokes! I am positive we all went at twice the speed!😂 thise were the days. Cheers Kevin. Thanks for the laugh.

What an enjoyable rant. I owned an original Honda Cub. The one with the push rod engine. No excuses, I was young & stupid. Going down hill it would really go & the needle would go round the clock & touch the stop. I learned my lesson the hard way. Never do this please, in my case it cost me two new speedometers. Touching that stop breaks the speedometer, I know this for certain because I did it twice, going down hill too fast. Doubtless, this is why the later models were never quite as fast as those early ones. I suppose the speed would have been around 55 remembering that they would read more than one's actual speed.

Absolutely, pity there is no redress against disclaiming idiocy. I did manage to get some of my personal bike photos removed from a similar video by a self certified expert and I have heard similar nonsense talked about early Hinckley models. Thanks for the link but personally, I wouldn't give them the benefit of a click through.

The fastest 50cc racing bikes could exceed 100 mph by some way, but these were machines subject to a full rebuild after every race, with a team of professional mechanics on hand. Bits of copper piping were notable by their absence.

Yeah, some say all you need to do is fit an Iridium spark plug and a K&N air filter for Fireblade-like performance. What an easy tune up..but it''s all in their imaginations, like go-faster paint. I've just found somebody using one of my videos made around St Mary's Island in Northumberland. Re-edited with their own titles on his travel channel....what a cheek ! I've reported it as copyright. I've watched your link, and this bloke really wound me up. I've known several of these 'bad bikes', and they've not been anything like he describes. If you report as copyright, he could receive a 'strike' which if turns out to be a regular thing, he could be removed from youtube. You keep your videos coming, they're very informative and entertaining. Thanks Paul.

Well well well, I'm going through depression again at the moment. Thanks Paul, that video really has cheered me up today. Love the ' man up the pub said' 😂 we say that to people who talk pooh. Keep up your good work, Johnny ringo. 👍😎

Synthetic does give a slight bump in h.p. but come on its not gonna change things much. Iridium plugs and so on.Nowadays they put that tiny tipped electrode on those and the platinum ones,so tiny that it wears faster and burns cooler than a old school copper electrode. Seems like if a product is better because of materials they still find a way to screw it up. I remember when platinum plugs had a full sized electrode and lasted much longer.Now try to find those ,they aren't available.

Respectfully Sir, I submit that bad manners, faulty information, ill formed opinions, and idiocy are not solely reserved to the USA. I had a fsie dx (£40 quid scrapyard) with a micron and pre mix and smaller sproket and big rear tyre and would mange just 50 plus with a following wind and then still seize, leak oil , blow up etc as a 16 year old much fun and learning was had. My sister had an A100, Suzuki version of YB and I passed my test on that, I swear it did 65 and a half on way home! Later on stopped by plod dong 92 on my 65 Triumph T90 , was well impressed! Point is , and I agree with you whole heartedly, back in the day there was much bollox spouted down the pub, these days ill informed crap everywhere on the internet, as bikes age the amount out there that haven't been buggered about with by someone ill informed will only decrease. Thankfully you and your like still survive and are hugely appreciated and enjoyed, keep moaning mate, I'm thinking of buying a pipe so I look clever whilst I moan!!
@750triton6 сағат бұрын
Funny you mention the A100. I bought a 2 year old one. I saw 80 mph on that clock but due to optimistic speedo's of the day, it likely did no more than 70. I only weighed as much as my mums damp apron though. Other mates on 100 and 125 bikes would keep theirs to 45 because they said "I don't want to overheat it", which often meant I was waiting for them miles away on the route, having a cig in a layby. Yes, it can be done.

Someone else had a video claiming, “ The 10 worst motorcycles of the 70’s”. Some of the bikes he mentioned, Norton Comando, Triumph Trident,Honda 500t and Harley Sprint 350. I owned these bikes. They were all good bikes. Why did he say they were bad? Because someone told him they were. He was now officially an expert on You Tube.

I remember the 70mph FS1E claims from when I was an apprentice. One lad swore blind to me that his Garelli would do 90 😂. That same lad also had the notion to check if his fuel tank was empty by peering into it with a lighted match, he turned up for work the next day minus fringe and eyebrows.
@williamnethercott43648 сағат бұрын
Classic rant! "The man in the pub" - I went to school with a few of those. One who thought the best way to get extra acceleration for overtaking was to go up from 3rd gear into sixth and open the throttle wide. Then there was the one who gained an extra 10mph from his little Honda by going down a couple of teeth on the rear sprocket, just as you mentioned. Finally there was one who vehemently maintained that no Norton Commando could keep up with his Suzuki 250 because it was superior to any British bike. What gets me is not so much the folly of much of the things they say but the agressive way they insist that they're right and no other opinion could possibly exist.
