The co-engineering with Bajaj is what has enabled this bikes from Triumph! One off my friends work for Bajaj R&D & the Bajaj played a huge role for these platforms. Obviously Triumph won't openly accept it or say it for obvious reasons, to market it as a premium brand products. Bajaj's contribution is hugely under-appreciated by such reviewers! Theu managed everything from suspension to engine materials to everything in between!

The reason the Enflields have less power is because that's the price paid for having a simpler, lower-compression, air/oil-cooled engine with easy-to-adjust (though more frequent) screw-and-locknut valves. It was a choice R.E. made, for those who prefer the simplicity over a liquid-cooled, multi-valve engine for *this* type of bike.

Done 2000Km on mine, the S400 is a great & nimble bike - it has its shortcomings like the odd speedo & buzz around 6k rpm, but it boils down to a really honest, fun bike with great build and paint quality. 👍🏻

There's still the underlying message that these bikes are good for days out, a bit of fun, or commuting. Owning Speed 400 for more than a month now. And let me assure everyone questioning about quality, it was designed by Triumph without cutting any corners. It is assembled in India by Bajaj for the sake of mass production and manufacturing costs reduction. It is not a lesser Triump and it is being sold and serviced by Triumph dealership network only unlike the KTM and Husqvarna. So they are different. And once you start riding it you will feel that quality and also the support Triumph is providing. You will stop the argument of RE v Triumph. They are that level of value for money products

There is no RE vs Triumph in this segment. Both are very different. One is a long stroke thumper which is a rare engine configuration along with rare British looks, the other is a retooled Duke with retro looks. Now Bajaj is launching a Pulsar 400NS based on this engine within next 2 months.

Its understandable to give Triumph credit, but remember Triumph went to Bajaj in India to use their expertise in making QUALITY INDIAN MANUFACTURED bikes but maintaining lower costs which BAJAJ is a legend of. Look at the Dominar 400 from BAJAJ which has been in production for several years. Indian manufacturing means that quality is 3 times better than chinese, and at par with european manufacturing. On open roads, the KTM would be loads more fun. In crawling city traffic, you'd prefer the better low end grunt on the Triumph. The suspension is also more pliant on the Triumph. KTM certainly offers more equipment (I envy the adjustable suspension), but also charges a significant premium for it, at least here in India. If you like the KTM's engine but the styling is too "in your face", the new Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is an enticing option.

As a Royal Enfield 350 owner, the main issues with new Enfields are the service intervals and the complete lack of service plan. If you follow the letter of the manual, you'd be visiting the dealer twice(!) a year (irrelevant of milage), and quoted service cost is in the region of £450/year 😮 Also, the list price of the new bullet is only £300 below the new Speed 400. RE needs to come down on price as they won't sell.

ultimately they are a Bajaj, with Triumph oversight for dual quality assurance. I've ridden the Bajaj Dominar, for example, which is their long standing 400cc sport tourer single, which is based on the KTM 390 engine, and it was...fine, a little on the unrefined side. Different budget that one (as in, they are dirt cheap) so I'd expect there's much more corner cutting, which should make a difference. So, if I was to make an uneducated guess, about as a reliable as others in its class, including the KTM 390...and that's not a snub...I'm not someone who believes they are inherently unreliable.

Yes, 4 engineers from triumph have worked with bajaj for five years. Bajaj has experience in 400 cc engine. It's very helpful for triumph to develop the engine. Bore and stroke are same with dominar. Othan than that all are different. To confirm look at the sproket placement. It's entirely new engine. And bajaj is the reason ktm is profitable now. Bajaj helped the ktm. Bajaj has 49.9% stake in ktm and Husqvarna. Bajaj dominor 400 has a very good engine. So no problem with refinement. Triumph new tr engine better and has triumph standard quality.

Great bike, but really disappointing to see that MCN still feel that people ‘crippled’ with a South East accent are only suitable to do video reviews. If you are a UK newspaper/magazine, maybe it’s time to have accents outside the South East represented. I’m from the South East, but travel a lot around the UK on my bike and talk to fellow bikers, but realise that the people I talk to aren’t represented in terms of accent and authenticity on MCN. There are some very knowledgeable motorcycle riders outside the South East bubble. Even the BBC realised that folks outside the South East know stuff. Come one MCN, come out of your South East echo chamber. It’s particularly annoying knowing you’re based in Peterborough, which isn’t even in the South East! Let Wales, Scotland, Ireland (North and South), the North of England and the Midlands and even the South West of England be heard. Do what the BBC did and learn to embrace your wider audience, rather than your tea room. Otherwise, keep doing what you’re doing, as you’re fab!

So cheap, so cheap, so cheap. What world do we live on? A 5k 400cc bike aint cheap. I cant afford to pay 8 grand for a bike

It's all relative. How much do you earn/ what else do you spend your money on. 5k is a thing of fantasy for some, pocket change for others.

That's the biggest piece of shill I've heard in a while. I'm sure it's a nice bike though.

The new RE Himalayan has much better brakes, brembo, and much better suspension, showa, so its the RE for me everytime.

Well RE is coming with their scram 450 and maybe hunter 450 too... It'll be fun to see how they compare with the triumph

The 400 Triumph also uses Showa big piston forks, at least upfront. As for the brakes, cheep Brembos aren't any better than other price point brakes.

Enfield isn't light because people doesn't want it to be light. They could use plastic parts like in this bike but its heaviness and long stroke nature is its appeal. Comparing this Triumph with and Enfield is idiotic comparison. Its like saying a honda civic is better than a Ford Bronco because it has two more doors. Both serve different markets.

You keep harping on about Triumph have made this, created this etc… Triumph have not made this, Bajaj have made it and I would suggest Triumph have had minimal input on this bike. This is the reason it has come in at the price it has.

@@Banditmanuk It is a fact Triumph are not making this bike, it is made by Pajaj. Did Triumph design it 🤔
