I've just done this job on my Triumph Tiger 1050. You really ought to change those rubber seals - they're nearly £7.00 each from Triumph but you can get them from lancashire seals for £9.50 for a ten-pack off ebay!! the ones you want are 17x24x5 Twin seals (R23 TC) and not the R21 SC seals. I also had minor corrosion on the sleeves but chose to replace them.Be careful when you lever the seals out with a screw driver a. it's easy to get the head of the blade under the outer shell of the needle bearing and damage it and/or score the face of the drag link to which the grease seal fits and b, you can leave a witness mark in the link arm where you were levering with your screwdriver. I found the best way to get the seal out was to grab the inside face with small but sharp and powerful pliers and pull HARD and they come out without too much worry.

Good shout on Lancashire seal, good value 👍

Great video, thank you very much. One thing though, you should NOT spray a degreaser into a bearing and then just wipe it clean with a rag. You are beasically destroying the grease between the rollers that you can't reach and it remains in the bearing. Either just wipe the old grease away with a rag as much as you can, or flush the bearing completely in a degreaser like brake cleaner or white spirits. But then you must be able to get all the grease out and then re-grease. I personally do that in an ultrsonic cleaner. Cheers.

Hi, thanks for supporting the channel. Yeah your right, must get it very clean. I do spend a great deal of time , making sure everything is degreased and clean. Just do most of it off camera, as not to waste to much of your time.👍🏻

Hello. Another very good video clear and easy to follow even though you were working in an awkward position because of the filming Bit of a tip when I work in dirty areas like that I give that area a very good clean first also I would have used copper slip on the bolts. WELL DONE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
@notamotorbikemechanic5 жыл бұрын
Not so sure about the copper slip? There are opinions that using it can influence the torque setting. If the owners manual ask for it, I use it. Same with thread lock.

Thanks for putting this video on, could you have done this on paddock stands? Without making some kind of frame I have no way of supporting from above, thanks
@notamotorbikemechanic10 ай бұрын
Hi, I've done it using to car axle stands. But please be careful, as it might move when loosening bolts. Have a back up support, just incase. I used straps, hooked to the ceiling rafters.

That 'waxy' stuff you said is the old grease, you should have delicately scraped it out and packed with new grease,
@notamotorbikemechanic4 жыл бұрын
I've done a few of these, and i'm not sure it is. I think they use a nylon/wax bearing retainer/cage, which make it look like dry grease. surely there's a bearing expert on here that can help?
@justinroberts3644 жыл бұрын
I have done this job on several Triumphs over the years and it's easy to scrape out old Wax/Grease and replace with new putting back original rollers (my dealer says should be done every year) as pointed out below new Seals are cheap from Lancashire Seals.

might have been easier if you removed the end can first for easier access. And have a centre-stand but I do know its only an option on the later models....
@notamotorbikemechanic4 жыл бұрын
roythearcher, the end cans weren't an issue, or the link pipe. Just making more unnecessary work for yourself. Don't think speed triple's ever came with centre stand (might be wrong)
@alexmorgan3435 Жыл бұрын
Speed Triples AFAIK never had a centre stand. Mine doesn't 2018 model.

Can i do this with Only a front and rear paddock stand ?
@notamotorbikemechanic3 жыл бұрын
Yes and no, I wouldn’t use a front stand. Get it up a rear stand, then use axle stands under the foot pegs, even blocks of wood. The rear stand won’t be much use to you, when you take off the rear linkage. As you won’t have any support.
@TheGixernutter3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Take care and get some other stands and solid bars wooden blocks and so on. you can never have too many stands.b

If it’s broken, remember you can’t brake it more. Also might be worth getting a price, to get it professionally refurbished. Could be a better option, especially if you need special tools.

I love my Triumph motorcycles, But they do now how to charge for part's! Think they take the piss a bit, but then so do HARLEY DAVIDSON! I just paid £409 quid for a sprag starter clutch and gear plus postage for a 955i speed triple!
