I will try this for my sprint rs. I have used a solar charger all summer to keep my battery healthy after fitting a lithium battery.

I got a 4 awg cable kit from Square Deals for the 1050 Tiger, hoping it'd fit my Sprint 1050. Fitted fine except the earth cable from the engine to battery was 2 inches short. I got a length of 4 awg fine strand and two 6mm lugs. Cut to length and crimped the lugs in the vice then soldered them. The original earth cable has those two other cables as seen in the video, I just kept the original earth cable connected from the engine to the battery and connected the new cable piggy back as well. It's a very worthwhile upgrade, the starter spins faster and cold starts are much quicker. While I'm on, anyone tried a booster plug on the 1050?

Device plugs into the AIT on the airbox, has a new temp sensor and richens the mixture 6% everywhere. Seem to be very popular on many bikes especially the Triumph twins. I had the starter sprag replaced at 15,000 miles so to give the new one the best chance did the starter cables modification, fitted a Mosfet rec/reg and fitted a Yuasa YTZ14S. The battery is about 50% dearer than the original Yuasa but has 230cca. Big difference in cranking speed. Oddly it's smaller. I'm wondering if the booster plug richens the mixture from a cold start. I have to say after the mods I've done the bike cranks fast and fires up pretty much instantly.

@@giwrgoskontogiannis2101 No, not a straight fit. The earth cable is 2 inches short, you'll have to make up a longer earth cable with 4awg cable and 6mm lugs, simple job. Pointless upgrading the positive cables without upgrading the earth. It would be a lot cheaper to buy 6 lugs and a length of 4awg cable and make the three cables yourself. Use the old ones as a pattern. This upgrade is definitely worth doing in my opinion. I fitted the booster plug, have to say it did smooth take up a little from a closed throttle, and that's it. If that floats your boat go for it otherwise I wouldn't bother.

My bike turns on and rides but turns all after the battery gets low could this be the problem? Needing stronger connections

Thanks for the video. Great timing, I've just bought the cable and lugs to make up those upgraded cables. Metric equivalent of 4 gauge = 21mm square. Question is, does the starter turn faster with the heavier cables, i.e. is it worth doing?

Just a stronger current to the starter/stator/sprag and reg/rec! The better the turn over for the bike!

The early sprint rs has an internal starter clutch, any weakness in the battery will lead to failure of the starter clutch which means engine out and a big job to fix. When this happened to me I swapped the motor which is a faf to get back in the frame. Later 955is had an easy to replace (but expensive) starter clutch. You can tell the later models as they have a visible round casing where early models were smooth casing. Keep the battery charged all the time and use Mobil 1 oil.
