Again as a response to requests from my lovely viewers, This is my preferred method for washing my motorcycle, and I believe the ultimate three stage non contact motorcycle washing method.

I must have watched this video around 20 times! Well done Stuart, I always enjoy the banter and reflections. I am a 100% Triumph fan, fell off a Tiger Cub way back in the late 60's and now after a few (cough, cough) years and many Triumphs, have acquired a totally restored 1973 T140V, reclaimed from the US and registered here. The owner has spent well over £6000 and ALL parts seem to be new. So in effect, its a brand new bike. I have already been guided by yourself re placing it in hibernation through the recent winter weather and now its time to clean everything down and get the bike ready for some miles through the leafy lanes around Hemswell and into beautiful Lincoln City and cathedral area. Great video and love the longer format (although I suspect that is probably much more effort). I'm really happy with the valuable information you give out and while I don't have a nice new T120, so much of what you have on your videos works just fine with my 1999 Triumph Legend TT. The Halcyon mirrors have worked out fantastic! On top of the great info in you videos, can I just say that the production quality and style is outstanding. Hi David, thank you, I believe it doesnt matter what your bike is, or whether its old or new, they are all fantastic and represent a big financial investment. so its well worth the effort to preserve them. The only problem with the longer format is that people tend to get bored and click off before the finish, hence the comments in this weeks video, a lot of people last week were asking questions that were answered in the latter part of the video, because they had clicked off at 5 or 6 minutes and it became quite frustrating asking them to watch the video, again, all the way through to obtain the answer! The longer format is not that much more work than the usual 6 to 8 minutes really i always get plenty of footage and just ruthlessly edit it down. Thanks for your comment on the production quality it is something i put a lot of effort in to, and im constantly looking at ways of improving it further. You tube is very saturated with creators now and i believe viewers expectations on production quality are getting higher. and certainly for me a 720p helmet camera just doesnt cut it any more!

Just washed my new RT to your method Stuart. First time I've cleaned a bike for 37 years - and it works! The only thing I did differently was to use my leaf blower to dry it, which worked very well. Hi Norman, I become a T120 Bonneville owner tomorrow, watching your "KZbin" videos helped me to make up my mind, I had test ridden one a few months ago but thanks for your informative information. I was a store called "The Range" today, I understand they are cited in most city's, they had muck off, Simonise carnauba wax, and GT 85 oil, all at knock down prices, also large yellow microfibres towels. Stuart, excellent video sir! The only thing I do a little different is to use a light air compressor after drying as much as possible with a cloth. It has the same effect as riding the bike in the final step. That said, I always try to take the bike out and work all the controls. It's amazing where water pools up and can cause some rusting. Thank you sir for all the effort! I learned a lot and will definitely add it to my regimen!

Excellent video. I currently use S100 - have used it on my previous bikes and now the T120 with success. May have to try Muck Off when I run out of S100. Another air method I use for preliminary drying is my gas powered leaf blower - more mobile and not as concentrated as an air compressor nozzle.

Also use a leaf blower here to finish things off .. you´d be surprised at all the water that sits in nooks and crannies .. a compressor on the other hand often has oil and especially dirty rusty water sitting in the bottom of it´s tank and that grime can be blown out with the air even though it may not always be noticeable… before wiping dry though a bucket of water mixed with a little Neophos shine from the dish washer thrown over the bike makes for a streak free finish

Hello Stuart! It feels great ... and I've got absolutely the bike I wanted! In former days I rode a BMW R100RT and had a lot of fun with it. Only on hot summer days it drove me insane because I was sweatening behind its fairing, there was no air cooling me inside of my protection clothing. So I wanted a naked bike. It's always a question of your personal matter of taste, but the design of the new BMW's don't fit my needs of style, because they in between of being modern or being classic. Triumph did a very good job with its modern classics - and the first bike which impressed me was in '69 when I was a kid a Triumph which was owned by a neighbour. I've done 5.600 kms up to now (300 on last Sunday) and my skills develop ... I use the Silkolene equivalent and it’s a tad better than muck off, not much but slightly better. Seems to me the silkolene product works better, could be me thinking like that. Stuart (If I may call you that)- I have to admit- when I first stumbled onto this video, I thought to myself "oh God, here we go!" But then I sat down and took the time to watch. And rewatch. And watch yet again. And then I proceeded to watch pretty much your entire collection. And I must say, you are nothing short of addicting. I don't know if it's the quality of your videography, or your sharp droll wit ("I would rather put my John Thomas in the hands of a madman with a pair of carpet scissors than use chemicals on my bike.."). Just how I do it. I would only add use water from the garden water butt for no watermarks and a leaf blower to dry and a running engine toward the end of leaf blower.Excellent video.

I've been using a sponge and I've now got swirl marks that I'm going to have to buff out with compound. Im giving this video a thumbs up!

Back in my mountain biking days I had a tip to use Fenwicks, similar to Muc Off, but a concentrate so when diluted went much further and I’m still using it. After a ride covered in .....mud. Spray it on, go fill a bucket of hot water and back out to wash the muck off five minutes later and dry in a well ventilated area. Final stage with the motorcycle is to wax on, wax off Mr Miyagi. Unless off course you’ve ridden through the entrance to a farm and ‘it’s’ baked on by the time you get home...interestingly used as a robust building material and equally challenging to remove! Appreciate that chemical compositions can be adjusted over time due to various regulations so can’t comment but hopefully still equally efficacious.

Hello Stuart I have been trying to find a method of washing and waxing and protecting my superduke since new and I have been following your cleaning and protecting videos to the letter I found a great deal on the Muc-off products you had used and I can attest to the effects they have had on the bikes finish top to bottom and how easy it is to clean after using they have been applied. My bike is also black so that's saying something it really does look and smell showroom condition, the smell from the Muc-off products is fantastic. sound advice Stuart. I do things slightly differently and use different products but overall do much the same process in touching the bike as little as possible. My diffetences are I use fs 365, a jetwash, but with a very soft wide fan and a ph neutral TFR from powermaxed which is far cheaper that muckoff too followed by a good quality car shampoo ( currently meguirs gold). As far as the drying is concerned you're right not many have a compressor. A cheaper alternative is a pet dryer off ebay. They're normally around the £60 mark but allow you to dry the bike without touching it, though it's best to direct the air blast across things like switches rather than at them so it draws the water out rather than blow it further in. Actually im a little embarrased the muc off is quite expensive at the moment compared to the last time i bought it. still works out to be economical though! simoniz is always a good choice in my book sounds like a good deal, but i have loads of the muc off shampoo at the moment, found it on offer at £5 for two bottles a few months ago and filled my basket up! june 28 '22 on ebay today a 1 liter bottle costs 22.99 ppd. considering you didnt use it to clean the crud off the cylinder fins i'm first going to try a bottle of oven cleaner from wal-mart. you did good to show that plain hose water rinses it all off after a few min. i was thinking a 1800 psi spray washer was needed

I use a leaf blower to dry my bike. An added benefit is that you can blow water away from nooks and crannies like the engine cooling fins and the wheel spokes, places where the fingers will never fit.

Stuart...got my T100 brand new 3 weeks ago...hoping to give it its first wash in the next day or so...soom real good tip in the vid. But reading the Triumph owners manual today about washing the bike...and would you believe there are around 4 pages. Anyway gives some do and don't...one it says cover the electrics on the handlebars with plastic bags with elastic bands to seal....also cover the ignition switch...and then it says to plug the rear end of the exhaust pipes...with them pointing down water will run inside if they are not plugged. I have no idea how important these actions are but I have got my bungs and bags ready. Keep up the good work...was your T120 brand new when you got it....its a credit to you mate. Do you do this procedure just when you think the bike is dirty or after each or so many rides? I think I remember you recommended a Castrol product for people in the US in place of GX85 but I can't remember the soecific one. I'll have to try locating it again. I'll have to check the manuals for any electronics, parts Triumph recommends covering while cleaning the bike. Thank you for providing a detailed / thorough procedure for cleaning that by looking at your bike obviously works very well.

Yes, I have to do some changes - my method is rather near of yours but there are some differences and my logic said yours is better... :) Thanks! Oh, I forgot - I have an 8 liter gardener's pressure sprayer to spray the liquid... Also the disposable non-woven fabric is good in washing (they do ladies and babies stuff of it)...

Just out of curiosity, did you find the gearbox clunky on your Triumph? I had the 1200 thruxton r and it drove me mad! Got a 350 classic Enfield now. A lot less power but love how nice the gear change's are even from neutral into 1st. Another great video 👌

I followed your cleaning method on my new t100. Worked great. Oddly however i read the owners manual. It says to cover clutch and break lever and holes on end of exhaust with plastic bags. And put tape over the key hole. And oh yeah don’t get seat wet. Huh? Thoughts on this?

Salt in used as a thickening agent to make the product look thick, concentrated quality product. Alkaline is used for dissolving organic material. There is little dirt that would really need a high ph. Safer bet is a neutral ph as a high ph can mess up your leather seat. All soap bubbles do are trap the dirt into the bubbles so you can rinse it off. All cleaners are acid or alkaline. Muck off is a ph of 11.4, that is not mild..and if you look at the data sheet, muck off contains sodium salt.

What do you think?? I was shown a good idea at Peter Stevens Motorcycles, Adelaide, after they washed my Bike they dried it with leaf blower. The leaf blower did a good job and the bike was dry in no time.

Hey Stu, meguiars nxt generation metal polysh! (their spelling not mine!) will get most of it off with some very hard work, but, it will come back over time. the product of these modern lean burn engines I'm afraid!

Thank you. I have returned to motorcycling and keen to maintain the appearance of my bike but wasn't sure how much attention to give to the exhaust discolouring. I think I will leave it as it is and keep the rest in good order. Again many thanks. Stuart

What do you recommend to do if you don't have access to a water hose? I live in an apartment building and have a separate garage with no running water :( I thought about going to a washpark at my nearest gas station but by the time I'm there the bike is already hot as a potato, not sure how long I'd have to wait there before I could start with the cleaning. Sigh, what I'd do to have your setup!

Hi Stuart been watching your videos for some time now, and am impressed, by how you deliver it. Im a bit of a stickler for cleaning.Rubber on bikes is one of my bug bears.The gaiters on the front forks ???? im not sure what they are ie Rubber, rubber and silicone, etc so what is the best product if any to keep the gaiters supple and clean an not cracking

ive been experimenting with meguiars dressings their endurance tyre dressing is very good for rubber but not suitable for plastics.

nice vid Stuart. Thanks for the effort. what's your thoughts on specific chrome or rubber polish? I do a similar method as yours but also do a separate routine for my exhaust and other shiny bits on the bike.

chrome cleaner is abrasive sir! so I never use it, have you seen the video I published last week which covers waxing and protecting?

Stuart, Thanks for these two cleaning videos, your diligence puts me to shame because I am not a polisher, Far be it from me to say my shit is shittier than yours ! But I rode my bike in the winter and the consequences were Dire. Rust appeared in several areas and importantly on the chain side plates. I love the bike it rides so well, but Triumph, like other manufactures Have been slaves to fashion and skimped 1 mudguards 2 chainguard. Viz as in cleaning video 1 the 3" gap from the end of it by the swing arm bearing , Which leaves it exposed to road salt etc to make a brutal saline grinding paste. I have bridged that gap temporarily until I can afford to get a decent one made up. Sorry to be long winded !

I had to commute for many years on a bike myself John and I know keeping your bike in order is a difficult losing battle. unfortunately, especially now, manufacturers believe the bulk of their products will be tucked up in a garage during the winter months. so ,scant attention is given to corrosion protection I commiserate with you its not easy watching your pride and joy deteriorating the way you describe. I will be publishing a video on chain cleaning and lubing this week keep an eye open for it and rest assured come October time, ill be giving some tips on how to keep the elements at bay during the winter months!
