H Jim! Huge fan from Sweden here. Just got to say that your waffling is extremely educative. I love how we get to follow you through your entire thought process. That is a large part of the reason to why I became I Patreon. Keep up the good work!

Apologies for not introducing myself, I'm a Pom, but resident for over 40 years in South Africa. Owner of three Triumphs, two Daytona 675s and a Speed Triple 1050, one D675 being in the past and the other two current. From experience, basic throttle positioning and TPS setting is critical. I don't know the diagnostic software you're using, I have the old Windows version of TuneECU, which seems to have some functions I did not see on yours. After setting the idle stepper actuator cam clearance (simple mechanical operation using a feeler gauge), TuneECU is used the drive the throttle butterflies to the closed position (via the stepper motor), and the TPS output voltage measured, if it's outside set parameters the TPS is moved to get the correct voltage). Then the software drives the stepper motor to fully open and that voltage is checked. From memory, it should be about 0,7V. The value may vary for the Sprint, but I'm pretty sure the basic process is the same. Once that's done, the stepper motor adaptation is cleared and the ECU re-learns by starting the bike, no touching the throttle, and idling until TuneECU confirms adaptation is complete. By all means check for vacuum leaks, but I recommend doing the outlined procedure first. A check of a Triumph manual for the exact clearances and TPS voltages would obviously be necessary. Good luck, and I look forward to the next video.

I really find these ones fascinating, the level of understanding of the engineering going on is so valuable. Even if I never work on a bike like this, I feel my understanding of the bigger picture grows, one reference voltage at a time 😂

lunch, heck I eat my breakfast while watching. :D Funny how I've been doing this myself for 25+ years and I still get joy out of watching others (and occasionally learn stuff, never too old/experienced to learn something new)

Such bad memories. Exactly what my 2000 Sprint ST 955 used to do (same engine and electronics). In and out of Fowlers which cost me hundreds. Triumph UK even provided a replacement for the engine wiring harness. The issue was always described as the throttle position sensor, symptoms were always fixed but then a couple of months later the same problem came back. Very nearly packed in bike ownership altogether. Looking forward to see if you can find the issue that creates the throttle position problem in the first place. If the only answer is recalibrating the TPS tell the owner to flog it ASAP. Glad I now know you exist. I only live about 5 miles away, shame I didn't know back then.

I had virtually the same issue on my GSX1400 03 I was restoring. Turns out it was the TPS and secondary TPS Once sorted it ran like a dream.

If youve got to remove tank ( a job in itself) check stepper motor unit and pipes . Liking your approach to the work and your video.

Can you please explain why, at 24:23, the display shows Throttle Closed Position at 107%? Surely it should be close to 0%. TPS is in the wrong position, I think.

I think he has three reasons for wanting better audio: 1 - Make it easier for us to hear issues and noises in a similar way to what he does so it gets easier to explain what he is reacting to. 2 - Allow us to enjoy the well tuned bike when he is done with them. 3 - Be able to speak over the running engine in a normal voice without stepping away or dubbing afterwards.
