Hi Elon, I have watched all videos in this series. I take my hat off to you, for the way you checked & checked again. I enjoyed the systematic way you went about your job to rebuild the straight six Triumph engine. I had no idea of the technical issues required to complete the rebuild. I loved the way you celebrated with a can of drink & a seat outside your garage for the half hour run in required to complete the job. Thank you so much for sharing your passion for the Triumph Marque.

I worked on a TR6, body panels and some minor mechanical repairs, lovely cars and the over drive button was a great laugh. Good luck with the rest of the build. Really nice to see someone bringing one back to life.

Enhorabuena (congratulations). Great result. Liked the way you primed the engine with oil. I thought it might be really noisy, but even Rusty could be tempted to come close .... once the can of Stella had been opened. The flange on the manifold downpipe looks solid, the Sptifire ones always used to fail there but they only had two bolts best thing I did was put a stainless piped manifold and exhaust on, problem solved. Good luck from Spain!!

The car is still under restoration. It is a father and daughter project. Hopefully they will have it out on the road next spring. I'd love to see their project finished.

Wow! Elin, I just came across your Channel and this was the first video I’ve watched. And it was fantastic. I’ll explore further. I’m currently shopping for a TR6. I’m in Peterborough Ontario. Not sure where you are, but your content will be very helpful. Thank you for this!

Welcome to the Rusty Beauties :) I have playlists about 3 or 4 different TR6s on the channel that might be interesting for you. You can also join the Rusty Beauties Facebook group facebook.com/groups/3028660134022715 and put the word out about a TR6. I am in Stouffville, not that far from you.

High Dave, Elon told me check with you. I have a 1970 TR6 that needs restoration that is very similar to the one Elin just picked up. Hit me back up here if you might be interested. It is a little bit of a long trip if you would want it, I live in Western Maryland ,Thanks Ken

Really enjoy and appreciate your videos, Elin! My father, son and I are ankle deep into a frame off restore of the '76 I drove in high school. Shell is off, frame is stripped except engine / transmission and the corners. We have an unfortunate problem to fix on our otherwise in very good condition frame (rear crossmember has broken diff mount), and hope to have that fixed when we get it blasted and prepped for paint. Meanwhile, we will tear down the engine. Our goal is get the CR up to ~8.5 (shaving the head) and some other minor upgrades similar to those you feature in your videos. Thanks again for the wealth of information on the TR6. It is stunning in contrast to what I had access to in '85 (no Internet of course) when I replaced main / rod bearings and added header and Monza exhaust.

Great job! Glad to see it start up and run pretty much straight away. That’s a nice setup you have there, although you probably need a down pipe and safer fuel tank. Also, please think about ear defenders - take it from someone subjected to loud noises, losing your hearing acuity in later life is not fun!
@RustyBeauties2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Actually it wasn't that loud, the camera amplified it. But in general I agree, I have to take care of my hearing.

What is your oil pressure at idle when warmed up? Mine is about 20psi
@RustyBeauties2 жыл бұрын
That is a little low. I think 50 is about right.
@corylwillrise2 жыл бұрын
@@RustyBeauties can I put in some washers on the pressure regulator?
@RustyBeauties2 жыл бұрын
@@corylwillrise I am not sure the pressure regulator is the reason as it is good, when cold, right? If it was letting the pressure go too early it would do that even when the oil is cold. You can try, but I am not sure it will work. You can measure the spring. It must be 4cm. If it is not you can add a washer and test it. It wouldn't hurt trying.

What is the normal running temp for a '78 Spitfire 1500? My gauge shows 3/4
@RustyBeauties2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that is about right. There are different thermostats available, the standard one is 180F but you can get 170 and 190 as well.

8.3 compression? I would have gone for 9.5. Can you not get 95 fuel where you live?
@RustyBeauties Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can and many people go for higher compression, but 8.3 was the maximum we could do without investing way too much in this rebuild. This engine belongs to a girl and her father, who are restoring this car for summer fun, not to race it.
