Love this video. I do have a solutuon of an easy way to get that rear main bearing out of the gear case and off the shaft. Harbor Freight has a nice puller kit SKU 62593, which all you have to do to adapt it is cut a 36" althread in half and put althread couplings onto the puller. This makes it long enough to reach the end of the tail shaft. It works slick! Saves hammering on delicate bearings. Ive used that puller kit a bunch of times. It paid for itself many times over.

I like people to think outside of the box. Sounds like a good solution as yes, a hammer is not ideal at all. The press works well, but not everyone has one, so I try to do my videos with basic tools we all have. Thanks again for the great idea. I might try rig one of them up over the summer

Great video John. Very timely for me, I have to replace the front bearing in a Tr6 transmission this winter. Thank you.

what gear oil do you like for these units? I know it should be GL4 but do you like synthetic or conventional (and what brand?)

While disassembling an old tr6 gearbox I found a small ball bearing rolling around in the box. Do you know where it goes? Thanks for the vids btw.

The ball-bearing would go in 1 of 2 places. The rear roller bearing at the output flange or the top end gear selector. I'm willing to bet it is the top end. Was it sticking or not going into gear correctly.
