@@COYM_1908 At the time of release, it wasn't really that well received by fans, mainly due to the fact that it had to follow up fucking Shogun. But as time went on with Vengeance Falls and Silence in the Snow released, In Waves was then more of a fan favorite if anything.

The riffs in this song are more catchy than the actual lyrics. Trivium has a great way of doing that. The guitar part is usually more interesting than the full song itself.

don't worry about it learning songs isn't easy, it took me 6 months to learn Sweet Child O' Mine, but that song thought me alot of techniques and now i can play songs like this no problem. So keep practicing kid, this is what makes learning guitar fun.

@Rafterman123 i play bass, and good basses are very low maintenance, like it crunchy? throw some new strings and a low level of gain on. like it smooth? wear out some roundwounds and boost the low end. I'm sure a guitarists mix can be a bitch when not running through a huge rig. but thanks for all the info you guys.

You don't have to down pick that part. At least if its the one I'm thinking of; when I first learned it I did all down picking, but now find alternate to work out much better and still have a strong sound.

The first time i watched this and saw the pre-chorus i said to myself "oh yeah i could play that" I picked up my guitar and learned it then tried playing it up to speed... HOLY SHIT. IT'S SO FAAAASST!! it took a lot of practice, but now i can play it up to speed and it always leaves me pretty much dead.

I'm not sure if this goes for every song, but from what I've heard and played, Corey has better technique/skill compared to Matt's guitars. In my opinion, I believe Corey's solos and way of harmonizing them sound a lot better than Matt's.

Technically speaking, I would agree. He has precision, speed and feel that is phenomenal. That being said, Matt Heafy CAN shred like a son of a bitch, and has a far more dynamic sound in my opinion. I look at it as intensity vs passion. Without either of them, the sound would fall apart.

I do agree, but thats why i love Trivium. There are two distinct guitarrists playing solos. Like the other commenter replied. Over simplification would be: Technical skill vs. Musicality. Its not that plain obviously. Both of them are extremely good guitarrists!

@ShogunJackson play a lot of thrash and death metal. you'll develop that ability. imo it's the best way to do rhythm parts like that usually. it gives it this extra punch and unique tonal consistency.
