Nearly binned it: An idiot goes off-road on a Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE

SORRY FOR THE HEAVY BREATHING. This was a bad idea. I have very, very little off-road experience, so I thought it a good idea to go green-laning on a bike I've only ridden two miles on - a Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE. Will I fall off? Will I get stuck in a field and left as meat for a horde of sheeps? Oh dear.

I regularly ride those tracks on my mountain bike. Very slippery this time of year & a gulley full of leaves on the downhill bit to the road. You did well on such a big bike. You may have inspired me to try it on my T7. Nice to watch someone with a similar level of competence as me!

Haha yup, I think so long as you’re reasonably competent and know to avoid the front brake you’ll be fine! Also, this bike really didn’t have anything like appropriate tyres for the conditions and it was (sort of) fine

I just bought a set of Michelin Anakee Wild 50/50 tyres being mounted on my scrambler this week. I got tired of the oh shit moments and getting stuck off road.

Haha yes several people have said that. The way I saw it they were knobblier than the Supercorsas on my Hypermotard so what could go wrong?!

It reminds me test ride with 1200XE, same story first nice sandy roads and after some minutes end up in dirt bikes track somwhere near railway, it took me 30min to turn it around to awoid a swamp ahead, in tiny 30cm track at 30c temp. Felt like after crossfit session, but it was good adveture, looking frwd to buy one ;)

put some more aggressive tyres on it will be a totally different animal mine goes over clay and grass-like its tarmac they dig in and bite so many tyres to choose from a happy medium like a 50-50 tyres would be fine for that terrain deep mud then its full on nobbly time.

Im thinking about this or the Desert Sled. I currently own a V4S and this too is my first time off road. The bigger adv bikes scare me. Hell shifting ground scares the F out of me. Im a rocket boy. That said i do wanna explore something new and this excites me. The DS seems smaller which is exactly what id like. Eh i need to ride them now.

Well, in the first place you should have apropriate tyres. The best vehicle is bad with the wrong tyres.

@@alser4379 yes I guess you must be right. However although it is a beautiful bike (except for the exhaust wich I do no fancy at all) it's too beautiful for offroad if you see what I mean
