I've had the EOB for almost a year now and I just want to let anybody know who has not used a Fernandes sustainer before that due to its unique circuitry you are always going through the 9V battery whenever you are plugged in regardless if your sustainer is turned on or not thus if your guitar has weak to no output that means that your battery needs to be changed. There's no short and there is nothing wrong with your guitar it just needs a fresh battery. Just wanted to let you guys know so you don't drive yourself crazy if it happens to you👍

I was in a pawn shop in Denver 20+ years ago. Three guys were in there looking for their equipment that was stolen from their trailer the night before. The guy at the counter asked them what band they were in. "We're called Radio Head" A few of us offered to loan them our gear, or track down rental equipment for the show. They declined, stating they had too much going on with the pedals and electronics to continue the show without the equipment from the trailer. This guitar puts that into perspective. It was a pretty cool meeting, but just sad timing to really be excited about meeting them.

An Ebow is two battery powered magnets that vibrate the string in between the magnets, which has produced a magnetic field. The light just shows you where you are, and has nothing to do with producing sound. The Sustainer pickup works in the same manner.

I have wanted the Fender EOB since I saw an add for it. Thank you so much for reviewing it. I cant get into Radiohead, but that is irrelevant. That's what I love about signature guitars, I could care less about the artists, the guitars have been given over to someone's consideration. Usually to a positive result. Oh I want this. ( no offense or disrespect meant to Radiohead, I like how in this review they said that EOB doesnt want the guitar to be a imitation piece, but something to inspire creativity.)
@robotsongs
@robotsongs 4 жыл бұрын
Austin, eBows and Sustainers radiate a magnetic field which interacts with the iron in the string to vibrate it. There is no possible way to vibrate a string using light. Otherwise, you'd be able to use an eBow on a classical guitar. Which you can't.
@paulr.4968
@paulr.4968 4 жыл бұрын
Fender refers to that finish as "Olympic white". "J.B." stands for Jeff Beck. Also significant: it is an EIGHT screw pickguard, as opposed to an 11 screw. Eight screws corresponds to a vintage pickguard configuration. Also worth mentioning is that it is a "spaghetti" logo. Worth mentioning is that it comes stock with only TWO vibrato springs. If there are any extras in the case, folks might wanna know .
@droliver
@droliver 4 жыл бұрын
Nope, the "JB" designation stands (officially) for Jazz-Blues which has been it's designation since it's commercial release. They'd tried to do a signature pickup model with Jeff Beck and they couldn't come to an agreement on an endorsement deal and Beck thought they were too hot and didn't like them when he had them put into a guitar for him.

I have a Schecter with the Sustainiac and it’s a fun toy. The first position is straight sustain. Position 2 will decay the note to a natural fifth and position 3 is the same, just way more intense. It will go into a harmonic almost immediately, whereas position 2 will be much more gradual. 3 is the crazy solo mode. But what I have learned is even if the unit is off, if it’s still has the lead plugged in, it will drain your 9v battery as if it were on.

Amazing guitar, but the popularity of Radiohead is massive. Way bigger than you made it out to be😂 they released some masterpiece albums and were very experimental, and were one of the first few bands to embrace the internet and social media when it came to releasing music and promoting themselves. Not to mention they are also in the Rock n roll hall of fame. I'm not even the biggest fan of them and I know if they released a song full of the band taking various dumps and shits in the studio, it'd still get praised 😂 (if you were joking though, fair play to you, you have me nearly 100% convinced)

Greetings Austin! Today’s video was probably the most fun I have seen you have testing an instrument in a long time. Once you started testing the sustainer it was amusing to see you cut loose with the whammy bar, and the ghost animation indicated that you must have had some fun in the edit room too. Usually, I prefer my electric guitars without batteries, but on occasions, I am willing to put up with an onboard power supply, this guitar seems to qualify for the additional features included. You have a great sense of humor Austin, thanks for posting this video. Please have an excellent and awesome day! 🙂

The Sustainer system only works with a humbucker in the bridge position - an S/C doesn't have enough signal to drive the Sustainer (bridge) p/up. Switching on the Sustainer puts the guitar into the bridge position automatically, irrespective of where the selector is.

Been waiting to see you review a sustainer guitar for a while. I'm a huge fan of Def Leppard and Phil Collen's been using one since the 90s (A good example of a solo Phil used it on is Guilty from Euphoria. In the blended mode I think.) Not sure how much I'd enjoy I bought a Burny les paul copy from Japan earlier this year with a sustainer and i love using it. The harmonic mode is especially crazy. Sadly, the Burny only has a 2 position switch for the sustainer, so I miss out on the blended mode. Even then, and after years of hyping myself over it, the sustainer is a gadget I'll be using pretty consistently from now on. Great video as always.

Ok wouldn't quite say fine, maybe just adequate. Trogly should probably have watched a couple of videos of sustainer players to get an idea of how to use them. At first I thought he was just going to keep trying to sustain chords, he finally got the idea to play some single note melody lines but should have tried to make it less boring by adding some finger vibrato or adding some with the whammy. A little research before doing the video might be a good idea.

Alan Thompson ah yeah i get it. I guess sustainer sounds great no matter what. But i love the way he made a Hendrix like dive at the end.

I love the Strat sounds. I have Stratocaster modified with Seymour Duncan hot rail pickups (easy swap electronics version) and they are amazing. I'd love to try out EOB Strat as well as I own Schecter guitar that has Sustainiac pickups which is awesome to gig with. :) Keep rocking!

The sustainer is actually a single coil. There should be Trem adjustments (2 or 3 depending on the model) on the inside. It allows you to adjust the speed to which the note turns into the harmonic and the other is a volume. The volume trem pot allows you to adjust the volume of the sustainer pickup in single coil mode. This changes the tone a bit to sound like a humbucker. It is also useful because adjusting the sustainer pickup closer or farther from the strings is not a great idea. It has a sweet spot and it needs to stay there and that's why there is a volume trem pot inside. I have and have had a few Schecters with sustainer pickups. I'm a Gibson Les Paul player but I have a Schecter 7 string with a sustainiac in case I have to record guitar for a buddy who writes in low tunings.

The ebow actually creates a magnetic field that causes the string to constantly vibrate. The light is just a guide, but you basically can mimic a sting instrument being "bowed" by moving it closer and further from the pickup changing just how intense the string vibration is. It's super hard to use. I mean...it's super easy to just make it vibrate like a mad man, but to do any type of intricate stuff with it, it is quite difficult to master.
