Captain Steve Jones and First Mate Len Harbrucker of FishPredator.com troll for muskies on Lake St. Clair on the Canada/Michigan border. Using log crankbaits, spinners & plugs off planerboards in 12 - 15 feet of water they catch spotted great lakes muskies. In Segment 2 we hear from Mike Thomas of the Michigan DNR. Segment 3 covers mid-summer walleyes with Wayne Enger (BWP Pro Staff) and avid angler Steve Sheets. They troll bottom bouncers or dropshots with spinners or crankbaits.

Are Pike and Musky different species. Or is the Musky the US/Canadian name for Pike?

I know this is a little late, but they are 2 different species. Pike are Esox lucius, muskie are Esox maskinongy.

How do you retrieve the planer clip after a fish?

you don't. The clips stack up at the end of the cable and are retrieved when the board is brought back in.

No new technique here, basic salt water trolling. Babe needs to go fishing somewhere other than a lake.

20 30 years ago you could go out on Lake St. Clair and catch a good mess of perch(50+). Now your lucky to go out and catch a dozen keepers. When you do get in to a school of perch you can catch 40 50, 5 or 6 might be 7 or 8" the rest we all call dinks! Muskies have taken over this lake and killed the population of perch here. last 10 years I've fished St. Clair summer and winter I've never caught a limit of perch (50 now). When I catch a musky it doesn't swim away it becomes a floater. Walleye Willy

+fastfeh1 I'm sure a ton of guys going out and keeping limits everyday had nothing to do with the declining population. Angler overharvest has much more to do with declining fish populations than natural predation. I hope you get popped for illegal harvest.
