Awsome vid man, in South Africa and we call them couta here. One of my favourite cooking styles is pan fry with a olive oil and butter on a high heat and season the fish with garlic, salt and pepper and once done a squeeze of lemon Cook majority of the way through with the skin side down as it stops the meat itself from burning

When I was younger I stayed at Dunk Is. resort about 5 times and camped at the campgrounds about another 3 or 4 times. The jetty is great for baitfish and other pelagic fish like trevally etc. I always used a wire trace or a thick fluorocarbon leader (mostly) otherwise you would get bitten off too often. That was a perfect size mackerel for eating. Not too big. Congrats on breaking your Mack vaginity!

nice video mate, some suggestions for the spearing is that 60-75% of the time a stomach shots tear out because there's not much meat to hold the shaft in and it fairly soft as well so that's why it pulls out a lot of the time so shot placement is key so centre mass and headshots are the way to go. Also always double check your flopper after a shot because any sand or other things can stop the flopper from opening resulting in losing the fish. I'm always looking for extra keen people to join me for free trips out of cairns if your ever up for it, especially when chasing marlin during the season. Good on ya and keep it up

Good catch. Seems spanish makarel are good fighters. An advise for your wife: you have to cook the fish with on the skin side first. She di right using just salt, pepper and citron. In Norway its used with a mix of different ingredients and called sitronpepper. Delicious. Lucky you have been back in time with your tiny boat. I would prefer like a Kaasbool 19 boat aluminium with high free bord which can be used for rough waters.

We love Spanish Mackerel in Yellow Curry. We mix the Yellow Curry with half a tin of coconut milk, and add a sliced onion, cook until soft, add the remaining coconut milk, add cubed sweet potato, a cup of frozen peas, green beans and sliced bok choy. Once all vegetables are cooked, we cut the fish into chunks and then add it to the sauce, Turn the heat off, put a lid on the pan and then wait until the fish is cooked (10 minutes).. Serve with Jasmine Rice, one of our favourite dishes.

Great vid in one of my favourite parts of Oz. Good idea to carry a club (sometimes called a “donga”) to subdue mackerel when you get them on board. A couple of good whacks on the top of the head will kill them and make it easier to remove hooks without removing fingers! 😂

Season some plain flour with salt and pepper. Coat your fish in flour mix and shallow fry, skin side down. Cook until gold and brown. Coconut curry is another good recipe.

Luke great video. You should set up a club for FNQ newbies. If you posted an event (like the hiking groups up here do) I reckon you would get a bunch of blokes in their boats coming along. Even if a limit of first 5 small boats (4.5m limit). #Lukesnewbies or #Falzonsfreshies? Keep up the good efforts.
