Good talk ... I have the same battery 31DCM (HOLDS ALOT OF CHARGE FOR A LONG TIME ) I use mine for a 55 lbs minn kota on my 14 ft semi v hull

I'm on 4years on a set of continental 27s running a 112 minnkota...never checked the water until I blew one up couple weeks ago....got 1 new battery and put over a gal in the other 2....fished 8hrs last night no problem

Never add a different battery to a group of old batteries. You're completely wasting money on that battery because it is trying to make up for the other 2 aren't providing. Your new battery already has a shorter lifespan than normal now. Put a voltmeter on your battery group it should be providing 38-40v at a full charge. But a 36v troller will still work down to 22 or something crazy it running isn't a good determination if you have a healthy system or not.

Do you prefer the trolling motor setup over the pusher fan?

Anyone can drive a troller. Only I can drive a fan. Although I am building another fan soon, it sucks driving all the time and not being able to leave the deck without the boat making circles until you get back to drive.
