Basically. What happens is you just unfocus your eyes so you don't end up following the notes. Things get too hectic at higher difficulties to flip your eyes from one note to the next, so you just use your peripheral vision to get an idea of where and what type the notes are, and then use your sense of rhythm to determine the timing. The trick is to be familiar enough with the game that the action of finding/hitting the note patterns is automatic muscle memory. As soon as your brain hiccups and goes "Wait, what?" you're fucked.

3:37 on trombone, you move your hand forward away from you to make the trombone tube longer to LOWER the note. It's inverted by default to be match the experience of moving the trombone tube which means moving your hand away from you matches moving the mouse up, would make the note lower, which matches a note being lower in pitch written further down, making inverted.. *sigh*.. I was looking for someone to comment about this! I’m in band myself (I play trumpet :)), and the reflections are SO accurate. It’s like a mirror right by your face, then gets elongated so much that it’s barely even a face anymore, and by the bell is your distorted face that loops around the bell in a weird way. I don't see anyone commenting on the whole mouse inversion thing: The thing about trombones is that when you pull the slide in, the tone rises. This is equivalent to the default settings of this game, where pulling your mouse in (moving it down) makes the tone go up. So it's more faithful to actual trombones to make the standard mouse configuration inverted, but I can understand the confusion it might cause for most.

Ok when I saw clips from trombone champion, I NEVER THOUGHT THE ACTUAL GAME WAS LIKE THIS. Like the so serious intro absolutely killed me and then she said “for now you must toot” and my entire internal image of the game shattered. I don’t know what to think anymore-
