So great! I did not realize they danced and moved so quickly like that. I always thought the videos I saw were sped up or something. But seeing that with people talking and walking about definitely makes it a ‘real time’ experience. Thank you very much for sharing that!

When you are under them, they have a morphing 3D quality that is hard to capture. Sometimes, they look far away and sometimes close. Haven't seen them in thirty years!

@@minnaorv I wish I could experience one like that. I live in Salt Lake City, UT. Once we had a red aurora (all the way down to Mexico), but it wasn't as brilliant as this. That same year/time/within days we had MILLIONS (on my street - thousands) of Monarch butterflies! There must have been such a strong magnetic interference from a solar flare that they changed their migration route. I'll never forget that time. I think it was in the early 90's. I'm not sure though. I was a child. Thanks for sharing your experience!

There is definitely a ghostly feeling when they start to move and bands of light race through them. I’m always amazed at just how big they are.

This was Nov 22nd to 28th. The date doesn't really matter - you need clear dark skies and a bit of luck. Spaceweather.com might also help.

What settings do you need for video like this? I’m used to shooting photos, is it similar like high ISO/large aperture?
@lesblain Жыл бұрын
Yes, you need a high ISO when the lights are dim. Because they vary in brightness alot I set the camera to aperture priority, min shutter 1/25th and max ISO 80000 with an F1.8 lens. You can use a slower shutter to increase the exposure but that gives jerky video. If the metering isn't right you might have to use full manual exposure.

Hi!; exactly, where can I see the Aurora Boreal, in Tromso center?
@lesblain Жыл бұрын
It's best to go somewhere dark away from city lights but if the aurora is strong you can see them in Tromso. The last bit of the video was taken next to the Scandic Ishavshotel.

That's amazing!! What sort of equipment did you use to capture the aurora in real time?
@lesblain Жыл бұрын
It depends on how bright the aurora is but in general you need a camera with good high iso performance and a fast lens. This was taken with a Sony A7S3 and a 20mm F1.8 lens.
@JimBobele Жыл бұрын
Quite impressive! What camera to you use? And what lens? And what settings, especially ISO? I'll be there in January and can't wait for it ;-)
@lesblain Жыл бұрын
It's a Sony A7S3 with a Sony 20mm F1.8 lens. Settings are aperture priority with min shutter 1/25 and max ISO 80,000. I don't use full manual because the lights can vary in brightness a lot but most of the time the ISO is at max. I could do with a gimbal.
