I changed the microswitch and added the JB weld. I haven't added the split collar but maybe later. Thanks for the video!

Thats great. How do you like the micro switch compared with the stock one? I would definitely do the split collar. I feel that most of the strength comes from that.
@ThePenguin-rn1lo2 жыл бұрын
That trigger speed was incredible. Definitely making this my next mod. So far I have a lit kick plate of Tron holding up his disc and a 10” tablet of the spinning MCU where the S plate was at.
@yeksun2 жыл бұрын
The trigger is definitely worth doing. You can squeeze off so many more shots. I have been considering the S panel mod.

@Yeksun Any follow up on this? How is it holding up? I bought Tron first batch. Been playing carefully. I mean very carefully since then and mine just fractured. Applied your fix and ordered a new L/R replacement set from A1up. Thanks for the vid!

Thanks for the comment. Mine is still holding up as of June 2024. Im glad to hear you did the fix. I would do it to your new one as well . Overall I think Tron is pretty easy on the joy stick EXCEPT for the light cycle board. That is the true test of these sticks. Good luck.
@Marcade26 ай бұрын
@@yeksun yup!! The Light Cycle board got me. I used the clear weld so I may do a stress test on my original controller to see if it will break entirely. You know, just heavy handed play. Nothing too crazy. I’ll post back if it breaks. I doubt it will. I also have a new micro switch coming. I hold #1 on DOT and the hand is tired after a long bout with Sark. An upgrade on the switch should help. I also took an xacto blade to the trigger seam and edges, making it baby smooth. I did notice wear on the trigger to switch contact area. I may need to mod that area to build it back up to keep the throw as short as possible. Thanks for the reply.

Update: your video set me on another level of gameplay. So for that, I have to thank you first and foremost. Props to you, Sir! Arcade1up sent me a complete controller assembly, base and all. Have I used it? NO! Because your tutorial is genius! I not only replaced the trigger switch. I replaced all switches in the base too. It plays like a dream now. So much so, I posted 999,900 on Discs of Tron, securing that top score. No more hand cramps during long plays. All thanks to you! I’ve strong armed the controller several times during play and the existing crack has not budged. This fix is legit. Happy gaming!

Thanks. It is still not broken. I think the collar is where most of the strength comes from next is the epoxy that goes on the outside of the stick that supports the collar. Do those two things and you should be good. You will love the new switch

THX so much for this! I just sold my modded Big Buck Hunter (20" monitor) to make room for this guy. I have a full size emulator cab, so I really only keep 3 of the Arcade 1Ups anymore, but this one will looks super with Galaga and Star Wars, especially because of the specialized controls that don't allow me to play it on my Arcade Guys cab. Will def be reinforcing the stick like this! THX so much! :)

My Zippy microswitch arrived today and was going to switch it out while the JB Weld is curing in sticks. Do you just pull the terminals off the stock microswitch? I tried to pull and they seem to be on pretty snug and don’t want to break them. Thanks.
@yeksun2 жыл бұрын
yes just pull off. You could try using plyers or a flat screwdriver and push the connector off. Let me know what you think of the new switch.

Do you need to use two types of JB Weld? Could you not use the JB for plastic inside the stick or is the metal that much stronger? (never used it before.)
@yeksun2 жыл бұрын
Good question. You certainly could use the plastic bonder inside the handle. It would set so much quicker and I believe is way better than nothing. It does have a little less strength. The plastic bond is 3770 psi verse the metal bond which is 5020 psi. Is that a huge difference that will amount to anything? I cant tell you that. I would say give it a try. Let me know how it goes.

Yes I think it would ad extra support . I would say its worth while. You can select any material , they all will work the same. I see they have a chrome one. That may look good . Get the one with no keyway.

Is JB Weld a glue? Do you put the two sides together right away so they’ll stick together?
@yeksun2 жыл бұрын
JB weld is a 2 part epoxy. Do not put the 2 sides together right away. Let them dry first. The epoxy will add thickness and strength to the plastic handles.

Instead on applying epoxy around the collar why not reinforce with an O-ring? That will give it additional tension reinforcement between the collar and the base and be simpler to remove as a non-permanent mod.
